--- CHRIST THE REDEEMER --- Christ the Redeemer statue has to be one of the most iconic sights in the world and we got to visit it! The statue stands imposingly on the top of Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro and can be seen for miles around. The soapstone statue is 30m high (2/3 of the height of the Statue of Liberty) and his arms span a width of 28m. Standing underneath and gazing up is a surreal experience. Well, it would have been if not for the loudspeakers reminding us that wearing of masks is mandatory to protect us from the "threat of life" as they put it. We had to line ourselves up for a photo, then quickly whip off the masks, take the photo and get the masks back on before a guard tapped us on the shoulder. It was good humour watching everyone go through the same routine. I guess this will be the new normal though, as who wants to have a photo at such an iconic site with a mask on? The views from there were spectacular, looking over Ipanema beach, Copacabanna Beach, Botafoga beach and Sugarloaf mountain in the distance. It was the perfect way for us to get our bearings on the city, seeing as we'd arrived in the dark. The statue is located in the Tijuca National Park which is the largest urban forest in the world! Favella's about before the entrance and then suddenly you're in this tropical forest with steep winding roads wending their way right to the top. . . . . . #christtheredeemer #iconicsights #christtheredeemerstatue #riodejaniero #brazil #braziltravel #explorebrazil #discoverbrazil #worldnomads #worldschooling #vanlife #vanlifediaries #momandsontravel #weareworldschoolers #learningtobreatheabroad #exploretheworld #digitalnomads #ontheroad #travelwithme #travellingtheworld #overlandingtheamericas #travelbloggerlife #instadaily #picoftheday (at Christ the Redeemer) https://www.instagram.com/p/CF7x8B2nC5H/?igshid=ae22jjad15cx
