This will be my last post I will make on my Tumblr account. I don’t check my dashboards anymore, and don’t have the time to keep this updated. But I will always be thankful for discovering Tumblr and making so many friends on it. I’ve traveled the country to hang out with people I’ve met here. I’ve been to their weddings. And I’ve made memories that I’ll never forget. When I first joined tumblr in 2009, I was living in Dallas on my own and didn’t know too many people outside of friends from university. So, I started to host Tumblr meetups. In February of 2010, I met Shannon at one. We started dating 2 months later. 2 years after that, we were married. In July of last year, we welcomed our daughter to the world. Today, our daughter turns 1. None of this would be possible without tumblr. I wish I still had the time and drive to keep an updated tumblr, but I’m a different person than I was 9 years ago. I have a family now, and a rewarding career in early phase cancer research that makes every day fun and exciting. Thank you for everything, Tumblr. You’ve introduced so much into my life. Goodbye, Tumblr. It’s been real.

I barely ever check out Tumblr anymore, but here's a Frank Turner tattoo I got a few weeks ago. It's a take on my favorite album of his and my favorite song. Also, I've started to fill out my arms, so sleeves, here I come.

So, I'm finally watching Transparent because my friend has a role in season 3. I'm halfway through season 2 and have a question: will I ever stop hating every single one of Maura's children? They seem like the overprivileged, self centered pricks that I avoided in undergrad. It's like every one of them are more narcissistic Lorelei Gilmores.

Though the crowds have gotten bigger, the venues less punk, and the tickets way more expensive, I'll be going to Flogging Molly concerts until the day I die. I'll never get tired of those songs I've been singing since I was 15. Live fast, die old.

X-23 and Logan Thoughts

Mild spoilers on Logan: I finally saw Logan last night and absolutely loved it. If you don't know, my favorite comic book character ever is X-23 aka Laura Kinney aka the All New Wolverine. James Mangold and Dafne Keen did an amazing job with the character. The athleticism and gymnastics-like kills are quintessentially X-23, and I'm especially glad that they were able to fit in the cutting scene, since Laura has struggled with self harm and mental illness her whole life. I hope that X-23 remains a character in New Mutants or whatever the next X-Men property that gets made for the big screen. She is an amazingly deep character that I want the whole world to appreciate. Marvel using her as a vehicle to discuss difficult issues that need to be talked about is something that will always keep me reading her comics.

I had a really rough February at work. We all kept on joking that this was the worst month ever. There were a lot of tragic deaths and disease progressions, which is to be expected when you work in oncology, but it never gets easy. Coupled with that, we had a lot of technical problems, difficult pharmaceutical companies, and studies that had to be shut down for financial reasons (which is my least favorite reason and the main thing that drove me to working in non-profit.) I was working until 7 some nights and crying a little in secret. But then March came. Yesterday afternoon, I was on Instagram and saw Frank Turner post a picture of his Texas tattoo. He said that he was having a surprise show at a small bar in Fort Worth. No cover. Just him and a guitar. Using only twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, he filled that tiny bar with around 200 people for a night of sing alongs and songs to give you hope. We could ignore everything fucked up in the world at that moment and just work on us. I left at Midnight after his set, but midway through him just hanging out at the bar with us, and I had the intro to The Next Storm stuck in my mind: "We had a difficult winter. We had a rough few months..." Frank's last album was Positive Music for Negative People and I can't begin to tell you how much I needed it. Leaving a small Fort Worth bar at around midnight on a Tuesday night into the morning, I had more hope than I earlier did. And it's all thanks to the Englishman who decided to have a small show at a bar. I love you, Frank. We can get better, because we're not dead yet.

I'll miss you forever, HMan. You made my undergrad experience and life that much brighter. I wish that I had a chance to tell you how much I loved you. We'll party again on the other side of the rainbow bridge. You were one of my best friends.

I'm spending my New Year's Day bagging and boarding my giant stack of comics from 2016. All New Wolverine #7 was by far my favorite comic of the year. I love seeing how much X-23 has grown as a character since transitioning to Wolverine. I can't wait to see her on the big screen! #wolverine #marvel #x23
