my favourite fire emblem pairing is definitely the red and blue one, where one is a mercenary and one is a Lord, oh and one of them hides their identity behind a mask for while. y’know them right? their game used time travel to defeat a giant dragon as well.

Young Black boy killed during Protests by White Supremacist!!!
Black Protester Shot to Death Outside Omaha Bar
A young black protester was shot dead outside a bar in Omaha as unrest across the nation engulfed the Nebraska city, by white supremacist Jake Gardner.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old James Scurlock, whose father called for justice as the city braced for another night of chaos.
“Last night I lost a son, my wife lost a son, my kids lost a brother,” the grieving dad, who has the same name, told reporters at the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation Visitors Center, “His daughter lost a father. All because he decided to protest against racism.“
Unfortunetly, Prosecutors in Omaha, Nebraska, said Monday that the white bar owner will not face charges because in their minds “video evidence shows he acted in self defense” even though he had aimed the gun to a crowd of unarmed protesters and James only got involved to protect anyone form getting shot, resulting in losing his life, as both videos here show: video1/video2
The murderer, Jake Gardner, also owns 2 bars one of which was closed down because of an outpour of reviews stating they woulf often refuse service to black people and were known as violent racists. His other bar seems to be having the same issues.
HOW YOU CAN HELP: Call county Attorney Don Kleine and Mayor Stotgert. Demand justice and demand Jake Gardner be held responsible for the murder!!

THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965) Dir. Robert Wise
Myka Stauffer built her YouTube following partly by sharing every step of her journey to adopt a toddler from China. This week, she revealed
A person like this... should not have a platform, nor sponsors or followers.
I am enraged and feeling deeply hurt for Huxley. I want to know where he is right now, who with and how he's doing.
The shock and stress of this whole situation for him, that poor baby boy. He didn't deserve this.
I finished reading 13 but with a theme of suicide and a worse protagonist the musical today and my fucking god. It’s. Wow.
Petty complaints first:
- it’s formatted fucky. this was the for sell copy and it was annoying formatted to where we (my class) had to flip back multiple pages between songs
- It really wanted to be prose. Like there were paragraphs of “”“actions”“” that weren’t actions at all and it was really annoying. Stop with the pretentious prose and get to what the fuck these characters are doing.
Real complaints:
- the dialogue is so unnatural. People don’t talk this way. Subject changes happen at thw wrong time, and all the women (especially Zoe) talk with the same style. It’s annoying.
- onto the women actuually, Zoe has no consistent personality. She is literally just a character that shapes to whatever fits best in the situation. Sucks because she’s such a major character in the narrative that if she had a personality that lasted more than 10 seconds at a time she could be the most interesting character in this hell musical. A similar issue pops up with Alana in that she’s interesting and practically like Evan but not a disgusting human being. There’s no closure for her Character. I can’t tell if this story was trying to villify Heidi or not?? Like at times it really REALLY seems they are and at other times it’s not, in the end it’s apparently not but as the ending is rushed. Cynthia is under developed (especially compared to Larry who had no fucking right to get developed, fuck you)
- The pacing is probably the most blaring issue. It’s typical that you’ll see 3 narrative acts pushed in 2 acts in theater (especially musical theater) because they wanna be movies, but this is a slightly rarer case where there isn’t a second act. Of course this isn’t actually a 1 act, the universe hates me too much for that. Instead this first act goes on for the entire play, it is drawn out, the majority of the first act and like 4 scenes away from the end. It’s so fucking borrringgg. Then, suddenly, instead of an ending that has any real closure it snaps off and everything id gine and uwuwwuwuw Evan fixed my family.
- Words Fail is a fucking evil song. It’s a villain song. It’s literally a villain song, it’s so laughably try hard and desperate ti tug at your heart strings. I wanted to bash Evan’s skull in. That brings me to the biggest problem witj the story itself; Whenever it gets close, or once or twice actually does, the story (not nessacarily the Character of Evan himself) is sure to mention that he’s SOOOO anxious and sad and oh my goodness his dad left him have we told you he’s sad and anxious?????????? This is a painfully obvious attempt to make the audience sympathetic to him. It’s pitiful. Imagine being so much of a coward that you can’t let your Character do anything less than perfect without going “But He’s just sad that’s why he does it!” 60 times afterward? How does that qualify as anything but bad? And like, Evan is the only main Character who gets this. Zoe, Alana, Heidi are all instantly hated for anything less than perfect that they do, either by indirectly saying it or making poor baby Evan suddenly feel “nauseous” or “his hands clam up”
- this story isn’t sad at all if it weren’t for the fact that every single Character sounded like they were crying regardless of if the Character was happy or sad or angry. It’s not a conincidence, it’s lazy writing. When you want to make your audience feel something despite writing a boring and/or enraging musical? Make them cry. Actors can probably back me up here, there are so many actors who have the dramatic range of a dead fish but because they can cry on q and use it A LOT, they’re considered great actors. The same applies to writing, hack writers/directors will make characters constantly cry (or sound like they’re crying) to trigger empathy in their audience when they either can’t figure out or are too lazy to work to make the audience cry naturally through suspense, good dialogue, and realistic relationships. Also, plot points (especially in the second act) are raised and then dropped and that’s judt really fucking annoying and prevented me from getting even slightly emotionally invested in it. I’m just so tired with narratives about men’s anxiety and depression being about how they’re allowed to be bad people now.
It’s also painfully unfunny when it tries to be, but that ties into the bad dialogue. I cannot sympathize or empathize with Evan AT ALL. I have tried and I have listened to why other people do, and I haven’t been able to piece it together. The answers I’ve got for the most part are:
1) I don’t know (This one is obvious, and can be explained by the hack writing as described above)
2) Projection (You’re either REALLY projecting or a terrible person, probably the first. This is valid, but I cannot see how. Are we such babies that a story screaming “HE HAS ANXIETY LIKE YOU THEATER KID!!!” over and over again will make us love the Character?)
Psychoanalyzing people for how and why they like and empathize with Evan would be a field day. How do people not see how unapologetically and desperately emotionally manipulative it is? The more I think about it the more it kinda grosses me out. This is aimed at teens, you can’t really claim otherwise, and particularly the friendless anxious variety. And instead of using the power of having a fragile audience to help them grow into better people or to make them look critically at their actions or do look for help, it just does the bare minimum of acknowledging their existence. In fact there are times I’d even claim it’s got some REALLY BAD ideas for a play that takes it’s mental health aspect seriously (going off medication for anxiety and depression and showing it as something that will actually help you grow as a better person is reckless and also just, not true, even anti-medicine freaks would probably agree) it’s so reckless and I hate to see so many kids falling for it.
so choice is very important in the black eagles route
choice is important to edelgard because it was taken away from her and her siblings. she was forced to watch her siblings die, and forced to carry a second crest she didn’t want because of twsitd. because they wanted her to be a weapon,, to have no choice but to do what they want her to. after the experimentation, she vows to transform the world to ensure that everyone could make their own choices to live their lives,, the chance to carve their own paths. and I think choice is also important in the way she interacts with her peers. time and time again she voices that she fears having to walk her path alone to see her vision come true. edelgard could have simply ordered the black eagles to follow her into war under the guise of it being their duty to serve the empire just so she wouldn’t have to tread the path alone. but doing so would mean she’s chosen for them to walk this path. and that’s the total opposite of what she wants for the future. we see her give her classmates opportunities to walk away from her cause, to walk away from the battlefield freely so she wouldn’t have to hurt them in the holy tomb. but yet her black eagles choose to stay and fight for her vision because they also believe in it. believe in her.
and with byleth it’s sooo juicy because she’s this vessel that rhea put the crest of flames into when she was born in hopes that her mother, the goddess, will come back in the form of byleth. so because of this, byleth is this detached person, who’s emotionally stunted and hardly ever strays from what she knows and what she’s told. she’s living her life dormant until literal divine intervention triggered by edelgard. byleth gets thrown into her teaching position by rhea with no chance of refusing, and over time we see this as a good thing because byleth is slowly coming into her own as a person, she’s growing, and what makes me real feral is that, ( I should point out that because she has the crest of flames in her heart, her heart doesn’t beat) down the line byleths heart does beat once when talking to her dad, and she passes out. so she’s starting to become human over time. but once byleth and sothis join souls and she gains the power of the progenitor god,, dorothea will mention that byleth seems more up in the clouds than ever before and that she has no intention of coming down,, so it’s like her humanity has slipped away again
choice for byleth is important in the black eagles route, because it’s the only route where you, as a player, can make a choice that will drastically change the story. and in that little choice text box,, the screen darkens a little, time feels like it slows down,, and all you hear is a heart beat,, which I assume is byleths but I also belive is edelgard’s. (because she and byleth are tied together by the crest of flames) they can both feel the magnitude of byleths choice in those moments. and it’s especially important in the holy tomb when you have to choose either to kill or protect edelgard,, the heart beat being both byleths and edelgard’s is so..... chefs kiss..... so once byleth does choose edelgard, the game makes it a point to have byleth say that she chose to walk this path with edelgard,,, and that choice is what ultimately leads to byleth having her crest disappear from her heart once rhea is defeated,,, the progenitor god power leaving her body,, and thus making her human ,,, free to feel and CHOOSE to live the way she WANTS to ....
and that is why edeleth is so fucking good
so like

People watch tragedies on purpose. People watch stories about hope on purpose. Pulling the rug on the narrative promise of your story and switching tracks isn’t clever or interesting, it’s just lying about the genre.
If Midsummer Night’s Dream ended with everyone brutally dying, I’d feel kind of betrayed. If Macbeth ended with everyone getting happily married, I’d also feel kind of betrayed.
Yes! You have to earn your ending. They’re not supposed to be twists. They have to be built to throughout the story
You need to have the payoff match the kind of investment you set your audience up with.
To clarify, twists can be well done! But they shouldn’t be “Gotcha! You thought you were watching Type A show but you’re really watching Type B show!”
Like, the Red Wedding is an appropriate twist for Game of Thrones.
It would not be a good twist for something like Doctor Who.
Also, a good twist should feel random, but make sense in retrospect.
