Another Night Another Dream

A lot has been on my mind the past few days. The test obviously, applications, resumes, recommendations, schools, just to name a few. However the most daunting question of "Why an MBA?", unanswered to this day, follows my thoughts everywhere I go.

I started this journey about 6 months ago in June, from having no idea of what I want to do with my career to reading all the Manhattan GMAT books almost twice. However, I still feel like I'm stuck at where I started. No clue as to why I want an MBA, other than to justify the time already invested to get there. However, I'm still optimistic and I know there will be resolution. Maybe some time [after my test] spent away from all these problems may help me find my true calling.

The test is less than 2 weeks away. My hopes, my dreams, and all that hard work leading up to this point, I'm looking forward to pay off. My main goal right now is to focus.

I'm glad I started writing my thoughts on this blog. I'll look back to this entry one day and smile.

Tired

Today was exhausting. I didn't accomplish much, but I did send Mike the rec letter request for UCLA.

Finished Quant Problems in OG

The last 20 or so problems in each section (PS and DS) were pretty simple. I found it quite odd, but even MGMAT categorized the latter questions easier.

I am going to take another CAT tomorrow and review the test in one shot. I'll mainly be focusing on my timing, but at the same time shooting for 650.

3 Weeks to Go

It's been a month since I last posted, and the only reason I come back is because I read these wonderful GMAT stories and debriefings, which gives me the slightest burst of motivation--but potent enough that it gives me hope. Hope to succeed and hope to destroy this cursed test.

Reality check: The last 2 CATS I took, I scored a 630 and 640 which has been an improvement from the previous CATs which still lingered in the high-500 realm.

I have 3 weeks to go and lately I've just been doing problems on the weekdays to strengthen my weaknesses, taking a CAT on Saturday, and reviewing on Sunday.

My routine for the next 3 weeks will be: - Weekdays: OG practice problems on weak topics, review advanced material in MGMAT books. - Weekends: 1 CAT on each day and review. End of week gut-check.

On a last note, I promise myself I will post on this blog once a day everyday until the day of my test. Even if it's just a one-liner.

...starting again

It's been three days since I started studying for the GMAT again. My first attempt was on August 24, 2013. I scored a 560 (Q40 V29 IR3 AWA5). What can I say? It was devastating, but at the same time eye opening. I knew I needed to get better.

Like what most people do when they've had a rough day, I went to grab a drink with a buddy of mine immediately after the test. He told me he happened to have all the MGMAT books. Brand new. He bought them with the intention of taking the test, but ended up changing his mind and told me I could have them. Thanks Michael.

I had already gone through all the books once and had read them on my laptop since I only had the electronic versions. What good could reading them again do for me, besides the fact that I now have a physical book in front of me?

I recently did some research on gmatclub, and looked up ways to improve your score. I know my biggest weakness is sentence correction, so my main focus at the moment is to improve SC.

It seemed like a lot of people who struggled on SC actually went back to read the book AGAIN and it had helped them review some core material that they had not mastered.

So that is what I'm doing now. Reviewing MGMAT SC part deux...Hopefully the print versions actually do make a difference.
