10 years ago we were making our first sounds as an unnamed project. Baden Powell & Vinícius de Moraes’s Canto de Iemanjá provided a starting point from which to emanate and explore and Sabrina Ratté crafted video projections, transcribing our sounds in vibrant hues, shapes and lines. Had we considered our project would persist beyond the first performance? We cannot recall, but wish it to continue serving as a tie that binds us.

Here’s the concert that we gave, at the bottom of the Sacred Buffalo Guardian Mountain, at the end of our month-long residency in Banff, in the Fall of 2018. We presented an overview of the compositions and recordings made during our stay at an elevation of 1383 m, as well as several small « acoustic objects » such as rocks and branches that we had collected in the forest. Around 10:30 pm, other residents, to whom we served a green liquor (chartreuse), squeezed into our studio. Collectively we experienced a powerful moment, as if time was suspended for an instant.
“Happy to start the new year with this lovely, introspective sound collage by Xenakiss aka Marie-Douce St-Jacques, half of Le fruit vert and multimedia artist from Montreal.”

Soon it'll be work, trouble, september, but for now we have the floating waters of Ingram Marshall, pianos of Skandrani, McGreggor, Racaille, Bley and relaxing songs about drowning… What more to ask? Sleepy King with Benoît Chaput, 70th show. Music & poetry. Photo : Sheila Gallagher, 1953
We had the great pleasure to collaborate with Delphine Dora for a concert at Festival de la cité in Lausanne. Thank you three:four for programming us, and Le Becque for the beautiful studio. An hour of music
MD made a mixtape.
At Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity, Rita Evans, Bair Visual Artist in Residence, Fall 2018 with Musicians-in-Residence Le fruit vert. This instrument and sculpture is based on the structure of coral, a porous body for multiple players. In a shared air chamber, the sounds of breath and liquid clash, collide and/or accumulate. This improvisation is an attempt to sonically shift the object from animal to plant to mineral in collective breathing waves, its inner chamber amplified into the space, with tectonic bass, beats and static tubular feedback. Special thanks to Banff Digital Media Practicum Mat Lindenberg. Audience footage by Rachel Yezbick and Tyler Burton. Video and editing, Rita Evans.
Tea, coffee, synths, pianos (2x), a huge harmonium, a tiny wind organ... and more. We are ready to hibernate until mid October.
Banff Center for the Arts, music residency until Oct 13th
