Can’t stop thinking about how attack on titan is not a romance but how its narrative hinges upon the most devastating love stories I’ve encountered in fiction.

How Ymir and Historia cling to each other under the burden of a crown they didn’t ask for.

How Eren, the definition of an “attack” protagonist does anything and everything for Armin, who shrinks away from violence (despite having to become the embodiment of war).

How Erwin gave Levi the sky, and it is a debt that Levi knows he can never repay.

How subtly yet thoroughly they work Moblit into every scene, a step behind Hanji, cautioning them and supporting them, so that you don’t even notice him until he’s gone.

How Mikasa’s “Akerbond” to Eren goes so much further, so much deeper, because he exhibited such raw, unfettered inhumanity in the name of protecting her when she was a child, when he barely even knew her, and that is all she knows of love.

How Connie feels like he’s lost half of himself with Sasha gone.

How much Carla loved her son.

How much of an impact Marco made on Jean.

How Armin could eat Bertoldt’s love for Annie and have it latch onto his own admiration of her.

How Marlowe thought of Hitch as he was dying.

How Reiner keeps going for the kids he has to mentor.

How Falco put himself between Gabi and danger over and over again.

How violently Sasha’s family mourned but how reverent of her spirit they were to forgive her killer.

Idk man I just think for a show that started off as kids fighting giants and turned into “my war crime is worse than your war crime”, it is driven almost entirely by unique, poignant and thoroughly convincing love stories.

I'm just going to say this once:

If after Truth any of you are still saying Luka lacks character, that's not because he lacks character, it's because you just don't like him but are too proud to admit it.

This episode has given him so much level of depth it's amazing.

You could see in his face how Marinette's absence was slowly but surely taking its toll on him, but he still wants to support her no matter what. He opened up about how her constant disappearances remind him of the fact he never met his father and her mother refusing to tell him who he is, pretty much like Marinette refuses to tell him the truth.

Marinette saying she can't tell him the truth literally breaks him!!

And yet, he still tried to fight the akuma and warned Marinette to run.

As Truth we saw an angry and impatient side to him. Years of frustrations and lies were condensed into his akumatised self, and they were finally coming out.

And how could we forget his furious cry to Shadow Moth, when he was doubting he would indeed keep his part of the deal instead of doing whatever he wanted?

"Because I always tell the truth!"

Honesty and trust are essential for Luka, which is what attracted him to Marinette in the first place. So being denied of that by the girl he loves is devastating.

The reason he was akumatised wasn't because Marinette wouldn't share her secrets, it was because in doing so Luka felt like she didn't trust him.

Marinette is entitled to her secrets, especially because in this case they could endanger everything they have worked so hard for. But Luka doesn't know just how huge this all is!! He thought she was still in love with Adrien (which is a secret to literally no one but Adrien himself) and couldn't commit herself to their relationship but she didn't know how to tell him!

Marinette is entitled to her secrets, and Luka is entitled to his feelings. Both things aren't mutually exclusive.

And this episode wasn't entirely about Marinette, either! A good chunk of Truth's motivations and frustrations come from not knowing who his father is!! Today we got Luka existing aside from Marinette.

TL; DR Luka isn't a flat character, you guys are just mean.

I relate to Kirishima on a molecular level. Whenever I feel like crap about myself, I usually color my hair. It works every time. Also, he has one of the best backstories: He wasn’t born with exceptional talent, or given an extraordinary power - all he had was an average quirk. There were no great expectations placed upon him. Nobody said he couldn’t succeed, but nobody said he could either. There was no powerful figure to believe in him, to guide him. He didn’t have fearless spirit, outstanding smarts or much going for him really. Yet, he found inspiration in his classmate, in some kids from a news story, in an obscure hero that wasn’t really all that fashionable at the time and worked on his own to get better, to change the things he didn’t like about himself. He was average, who refused to stay average.
