I kinda wonder what the overlap between whump fans and horror fans is (and why), because I definitely know there are horror fans who aren’t whump fans (though probably a lot of that is due to the whump community being proportionally much smaller), but as someone who finds the appeal in whump and horror to be very similar I’ve been honestly surprised by the number of whump fans who aren’t fans of horror. As the desc. said, this blog is a challenge for the month of April where there are 30 prompts you fill out before the 30th. This post elaborates further on the rules/challenge. If you have any further questions, send an ask and I’ll answer as many as I can! 

Rules:

“I-I’m at the hospital,” A’s muffled voice came through the phone.

“Again?” B chuckled. A’s clumsiness was no secret.

“I-it’s different this time. Something’s wrong. Something’s wrong with me.”

Whump Prompt #734

“Hey squirt.” A says to the child as they bound into the room. The child had heard there was a commotion in A’s room - A had an episode brought on by past and recent trauma. A has to quickly wipe tears from their face when they see the ball of energy whizz into the destroyed room. 

“B said you were hurt. Are you okay?” The child asks. 

“Yeah.” A chokes, hiding their split knuckles. “Yeah I’m fine. What are you doing here? You should be in bed.”

“I bought you a Band-Aid!” The child says, brandishing the kitten covered plaster. Before A could protest, the child haphazardly but carefully places it over a graze on A’s arm. A nearly begins crying all over again. 

“Thanks.” They say. And the child wordlessly pulls A in for a hug, revealing a disturbing level of maturity for such a young age.

Whump Prompt #733

A, the gruff, stoic and antisocial character, ends up looking after the child when they’re sick. Since then, the chid and A become quite close, and the team even notices a change in A’s general demeanour since the child is always at their side. 

So when A ends up in medical after saving the child/the day, the child begs and begs and begs to see them because they’re so worried. The caretakers warn the child that A may look scary because of all the wires and bandages, but the child says: 

“A’s not scary! they’re like a teddy bear - look, I bought my teddy to help them feel better!” 

From then on, A is often called ‘teddy’, and the child visits them everyday until A is allowed out of medical.

When the whumpee is too badly hurt to stay at their own home alone, so they end up living with the caretaker for awhile, and they’re surprised by how eager the caretaker seems to help them, bringing them things they need without even being asked. The whumpee trying to make themself as convenient as possible for the caretaker, trying to be as independent as they can be, but pushing themself too far, and ending up having to rely on the caretaker even more. The caretaker finding out that the whumpee pushed themself to be independent because they didn’t want to be inconvenient, and reassuring the whumpee that they want to take care of them, and they could never be inconvenient.

Caretaker: *mops sweat off whumpee's brow/bathes their face/presses damp cloth to their forehead*

Me: !!!!!!¡¡!!!!!¡!!!!!!!¡!!!!!

Favorite way for caretaker to check for a fever? Personally I'm partial to 'back of hand on whumpee's cheek or forehead'.

I actually prefer the palm of the hand, either on the cheek or cupping the side of their neck!
