hey i'm sure you didn't mean it that way but that post you put in the rebelcaptain tag about old fics comes across as lowkey really rude to the fanfiction writers who have been writing rebelcaptain fics for the past eight years (six of which were before andor was even released!). obviously you're allowed to have your own opinion on cassian's characterization and i don't have to agree with it but saying that fics that don't include characters who only came into existence six years into the fandom's existence (in a show that retconned an already existing backstory) "don't feel right" definitely rubs me the wrong way. like idk maybe i'm just being sensitive about it but it feels very icky.
Hi! Sorry, youāre right I didnāt mean to dismiss the works that came before Andor or anything like that. In fact I find them interesting and I like many of them. A good number of them are well written and have created backgrounds and histories to the characters on their own that flesh them out in equally interesting ways. Iām not saying one way is superior to the other. Iām saying that because theyāre no longer completely aligned with now-canon, they donāt exactly ācome off rightā based on now-canon, without the characters and stories that itās now composed of, which imo has added a lot of breadth and depth to it. It doesnāt mean I think the older fics donāt have merit or I think theyāre wrong because I understand that they were written based on what information and characterizations were available at that time. Itās just an observation and I found it interesting to see.

So interesting to read pre-Andor rebelcaptain fics. Cassian is the same character in Rogue One and Andor, but also different enough that the backstories in some older fics no longer align with the canon as developed in the show. I guess itās not just a matter of him being adopted and his arc from Kenari to Ferrix and beyond or how he became committed to the cause from his previously more murky motivations. I know that in these fics his past isnāt the focus, but imo his background plays a huge role in shaping how he would possibly think or act in stories.
I think it also has a lot to do with the characters introduced in the series that were not present in Rogue One, since Andor is composed of a new world rich with people and history for him to grow in. Luthen, Maarva, Vel, Bix ā all of them are interesting and whole as characters that older fics without complete information on his past relationships and motivations donāt come off as exactly right anymore. In older fics, their absence, whether physical or even just their influence, is glaring. But I suppose thatās the beauty of a character whose development is still ongoing.
when i was younger i was obsessed with gael garcia bernal and tbh i still love him, but now that iām older i realize that v late 30s to present-day diego luna just does it for me. just the right height, just the right age, just the right amount of grooming for the beard, sleepy eyes, fantastic hair, the cheekbones and jaw, a capricorn. itās like they made my exact irl type in a lab

one way to sort of ruin the experience of reading a good reylo fic for me is when the og trio (han, leia, and luke) are described in less than flattering terms. i get that their characters are often secondary, but i have always loved the og main characters and will instantly nope out if theyāre portrayed to be awful rather than just complex or flawed. so even if iām near the tail end of a fic and i see something derogatory about the og three i just feel really bad and drop the thing no matter the time invested in reading.
i also noticed that a number of reylo are also an*dalas. i am not, but thatās neither here nor there, and i do love padmĆ© and ani individually. there have been fics where the parallels have been made, but i dunno, i feel like reylo and the sequel trilogy are really thematically a continuation from the og trilogy and not really a callback to the grandparentsā romance, because to me the og and sequels are more about family and belonging than this star-crossed lovers will ruin or save the world thing (which i think is secondary). tbh to me the prequel trilogy was also about that ā belonging and otherness, the jedi order also just trying its best (i am going to cover my ears to insults to them bec i love them sorry) and ani feeling so othered that he fell prey to palpatine, despite obi wan (ult loml in the sw universe so i will not take any insult to him sitting down) also trying his damned best. it makes me sad to see the admiration for the ship but coupled with disdain for the og trio. they were all imperfect beings who were just trying their best.

Megalopolis is hilarious and batshit insane and weird and i donāt know why people hate it so much, i mean i donāt know if itās meant to be taken seriously but i didnāt and i somehow enjoyed it, kinda like watching a really dated campy film from the 80s or a silly fable played out on stage in the 18th century before an audience of bored aristocrats by people in weird costumes and awful acting, or like a nutty homage to really corny early 20th century big budget movies or a dryer unerotic Caligula for the 2020s idk
Also Adam is fantastic okay he looks like heās having the time of his life
