honestly everyone says the whump community is so chill but theres SO much drama and sometimes straight up bullying here

yeah but that post i made was like a year ago so it's not really relevant to what was happening then anymore. i've been on discord more than tumblr and kinda just hanging out in my communities so i haven't really seen much lately. not worth my time to get into the drama though if there is any. it's not helping anyone and the odds that you're gonna change someone's mind with internet discourse are very slim

dr markus riker, renowned virologist—prior to the outbreak of intergalatic war ending with his imprisonment by the imperial government so they could… convince… him to work on bioweapons for him. tries his best to be strong enough to withstand it, fails frequently, and at all times carries the crushing guilt of what that failure has enabled. after 20 years of physical and psychological torture at the command of someone he once trusted with his life, he would probably fall over if you poked him too hard?

spray paint or mod podge (in the aerosol bottle) to make them cough

thumb tacks like painful rivets in their flesh

stick their hand in a heat press or under an operating sewing machine 

stab ‘em with the sharpest knitting needles you can find

So I’ve noticed a bunch of medical errors in fics I read, so I decided to post this handy guide to some of the most common errors and some background on basic medical things.

ps- they are not medical treatment or first aid advice. I’m not actually a doctor. yet. but I am certified in first aid. this is just so your writing can be more realistic.

Reference for your whump/hurt/comfort fics

I am an absolute sucker for Whumpers asking Whumpees how they feel, so here's some stuff for that :)

---

-“How do you feel?” but it’s a clinical Whumper sitting bedside/table-side, taking notes

-Whumpees being gagged or drugged so they can’t respond (*chef’s kiss*)

-Whumper asking them anyway

-getting punished for not answering even though they literally cannot answer

-Whumpee strapped to an examination or operating table, staring at Whumper with angry and terrified eyes

-punishing Whumpee for not responding quickly, clearly, or seriously enough (which is really good for those clinical Whumpers who are in it for the science)

-“If you don’t start taking this seriously, we’ll keep at it until you do.”

-"Hm. How about we try again?"

-not answering or answering sarcastically makes the torture three times worse

-feral screams erupting from Whumpee's throat, and Whumper hums warmly, "Now we're getting somewhere."

-test subjects forced to write down in notebooks every effect that endless brutal experiments have on their bodies

-the notebooks are collected and swept away for research. Whumpee knows that's how their captors decide which tests to run next...

-"How are you feeling?" but a snarky Whumpee responds

-“Oh I feel great.” // “Could be better. Could be worse.” // “If you wanna know that badly, how about I get a turn with the knife?”

-immediately getting slapped for sassing :)

-snarky responses even when they're in obvious agony, on the verge of tears or already sobbing

-trying to be sassy or funny when out of breath, gasping out quips

- *panting* "Never...never better, doc...what, is that...a new whip? For me? You shouldn't have."

-“How does it feel?” but it’s an intimate Whumper whispering so close that their lips touch Whumpee’s ear

-(my all time favorite) when Whumpee is too exhausted, too fearful, too traumatized, too far gone to respond and all they can do is moan in pain (or...not pain..?)

-(my all time favorite pt 2) when Whumpee doesn’t have the strength to respond with any noise at all

-face twisted in pain, blank stares through half-lidded eyes, dribbles of drool and blood

-tears tracking down their cheeks are the only response they can give

-the only reason Whumper lets them rest and recover is because they can't get a response out of them. It's not as fun when they don't make any noise

-“How does it feel?” as the first thing Whumper hears upon waking up in the same cage where they’ve kept Whumpee for months :)

Whumper Dialogue related to this:

“Use your words.”

“Speak. Now.”

“How does it compare to yesterday? Does it hurt more? Less? About the same? Come now, dear, it’s all in the name of science.”

“Now say it like you mean it.”

“What was that? You’ll have to speak up. Can't really understand through the...” *gestures to gag*

“Louder!”

“Say that again.”

"I don't think I believe you. I think you can take more. Only one way to find out."

"You have such a way with words, Whumpee." (genuine)

"A or B?" (making Whumpee choose their own torture, or asking which of two options hurts the most, etc)

Conditioning Concept

Okay I know this is a weird concept, but you know know rickrolling has become so popular?

What if we did something similar to a whumpee. Call it a form of conditioning. Like. They're always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Always waiting to get tricked. And they're right to not trust anything?? Even when they're with caretaker, in a safe place.

This is a little graphic so I'll put the full concept under the cut. Can't tag things because FKIN APPLE had to be dumb.

Phoebe doesn’t notice the rune until it lights up under her feet. The sudden shift in the air makes her look down, and she finds herself surrounded by a faint glowing pattern, yards across, obscured by layers of dust from years of neglect in this ruin. She feels her strength start to drain, far too quickly, and in her last seconds of power she sends a message to her Siblings, frantic messages of her location and what’s happening. Then the connection closes and Phoebe feels herself drop to the cold ground.

Her arms and knees support her for barely a minute before the strength drains from those as well, and she crumples fully, letting out a weak gasp. Slowly, too, the cold air of the place seems to seep into her bones, and her clear vision dims. The light has fled her body too, not just her physical strength. She’s alone here–but her Siblings know where she is. It can’t be long til someone finds her.

The light of the rune fades, and Phoebe is plunged into a cold, lonely darkness, the silence only punctuated by her sharp breathing. It’s not like before, she tells herself. She won’t die, not alone in the dark, not again. Cannot die. If her heart still beat it would be trying to escape her chest. She tries to lift an arm–it trembles, but there’s no real movement. She can’t die. Her Siblings will find her. Her body doesn’t feel numb but it might as well be for the cold and the paralysis. She can’t die. She’ll be back to normal as soon as someone finds her. She can’t.

She doesn’t know how long she lies there in the perfect darkness, swarmed with her own thoughts that she repeatedly tries to deflect or disprove. It was afternoon when she entered the ruin. Bright and sunny. But this deep in, there’s no light to pierce the old stone walls. But it’s spacious. It’s no storage cabinet. Phoebe shudders.

While drifting and half-absent, her eyes suddenly hurt, and it takes her a moment to realize why. Light, something too bright and powerful, fills the space from a singular point. She squeezes her eyes shut, trembling and praying that whoever it is is here to help. Someone calls her name, and she manages to curl her fingers into a loose fist and make a small whimpering noise. The light outside her eyelids flashes, and she takes a deep breath as the strength returns to her limbs.

“Sister,” someone breathes, and she opens her eyes, pushing herself up on trembling arms. Illuminated by a light on his staff and making his way over is Lior, her eldest Brother. “Thank heavens I was nearby.”

“Bro-other,” Phoebe replies, wobbly, shivering as the light of Sol makes a slow return to her body. Lior drops to his knees before her and she collapses into his arms, pressing herself close to his old, comfortable warmth, seeping into her frozen skin. “Tha-ank you.”

“You’ll be alright now,” Lior murmurs, gathering his trembling Sister into his arms, staff tucked under his arm to light the way out of the ruin. “Rest, Phoebe. We’ll have you back on your feet soon.”

She nods, still shivering despite the returning warmth, and allows herself to be carried out to safety.
