Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walters | It has been a long intermezzo since the last time I opened the page of Beautiful Ruins to continue reading it. I thought it's not magical enough to be one of the best fiction of the year, until I reach this passage: "Words and emotions are simple currencies. If we inflate them, they lose their value, just like money. They begin to mean nothing. Use "beautiful" to describe a sandwich and the word means nothing. Since the war, there's no more room for inflated language. Words and feelings are small now--clear and precise. Humble like dreams." #jesswalter #book #novel #fiction #bookoftheday #beautiful #ruins
