Tying up my dollblogging loose ends.
THAT OBITSU WITH THE BOOBS
I made her a wig, yeah. She's gonna be DiPP CD label girl. The wig took some effort so style, and didn't come out perfect at all. I don't think the bangs look very good. Generally speaking, I don't like that kind of literalist approach to anime character wigs wherein every pointy strand of cartoon hair is recreated one-for-for one by putting actual synthetic hair into these weird unnatural-looking chunks, but that's pretty much what I ended up with. I tried to ruffle it up a little, so it's not full-on hairy plastic, but it still has that look, doesn't it... Oh well.
As for her braid/ponytail/hair thang, when the "base" part of the wig was done, I debated whether I should style it from the existing strands or glue on a new strand altogether. Well, the latter seemed too easy to screw up, so I went with the former. Looks alright. A bit weird, but Hourai Shoujo weird. It's fine for them to have strange dangly bits on their hair, so...
By the way, I originally wanted to use this hair colour for Zun007, but I guess it's more interesting for her hair to be purple. Ish.
YUUGENMAGAN'S BLONDE WIG
I straight up couldn't find the same hair I got last time, I couldn't find it anywhere. Not online, not in hobby stores, there just wasn't any available anywhere. I ended up getting some hair of a similar, but lighter shade, and used that to finish the wig. The side-part was quite difficult. I tried a new method of making the part (cutting into the wig cap and gluing the hair strands from the inside), but that wasn't much easier. I also accidentally bent one of the strands making it up in the wrong place, so there was an uncovered patch, but after fiddling with the strands, I managed to cover it up. It came out alright.
Affixing it to the head was terrible, though. Observe.
It's cute and all, I don't mind the way it turned out, but you can, like, tell that it will not handle being tilted to the side too much. And it really should! Matenshi's wig sits quite tightly on the head, Label girl's wig is held very firmly in place, but here, the wig cap is both slightly oversized and too stiff from the wefts and the glue holding them in place, and the whole wig is obviously heavier due to its larger size, so it slips off easily despite being affixed with double-sided tape.
....
Okay, I get it now...
The glue-cap method probably isn't supposed to be used for larger scales, actually...
I'm not very good at this, you know.
On the bright side. That makeshift hat I made out of a scrap of cloth makes it fit more firmly, and also Yuugen is cutes. (but a bit emo?)
I might make a new wig eventually, a sewn one - it seems more sturdy. Potentially more fun as well. Not sure what to do with this one, though. I guess I'll burn it.
THAT MOMOTALE HEAD WITH NO HOLE
Well, after some consideration, I just opened it up and cut a hole into it. It turned out to be a reasonable solution - after modifying the neck joint a bit, I could secure the head on the neck without problem. It looked a bit messy, but was a very good fit. Great! Also, I didn't bother to look for a fitting screwdriver, and pulled the screw out with my teeth, again. This shouldn't set a precedent, but I feel like it's going to.
(Well, at least I wasn't pulling screws out with my teeth when I disassembled my bed... But they were too big for that.)
I gave her a haircut as well. She will be the maid who's slacking off from cleaning duties, probably.
Like that. Close enough? Close enough.
