Aelita lays on her bed, breathing deeply, running her fingers over the comforter, watching dust motes float through the sunshine streaming through the window. 

It’s surreal, being here. She has all the faith in the world in her friends, but there was a tiny part of her that was terrified she would never be really real, that she’d have to watch all of them grow up while she’d be stuck as a virtual girl forever.

Tears form at the corners of her eyes, and she lets them fall with a big grin on her face. She’s alive, and it’s wonderful.
