Concept: Phil is actually the Blood God
Managed to catch most of the Dec 9 techno stream, and I’d like to present to concept of Phil is Actually the Blood God.
Think of it like a heat source and sink situation. When separated, power sink Phil has to put all of his energy into surviving and maintaining himself so he tends not to be overly violent in the first couple of weeks on the server, just trying to get resources and not die.
Power source/battery Techno up til that point pre-retirement has constantly been burning energy, gaining resources, farming mobs, getting to buckwild XP levels etc and acts as the constant source of chaos and violence for anarchy’s sake. He’s like a cat in a super low humidity apartment mildly grouchy at how static electricity is constantly gathering on his fur and shocking everything he touches.
But now that Techno’s been ‘retired’, esp from the turtle stream, Phil is now powered by the vassal of the blood god.
When they encounter the iron golems, techno goes out of his way to heal those guardians of villages and do trades and collect pets, while Hardcore Mode Phil ransacks villages, mercilessly kills iron golems for the paltry iron bars they give, then slaughtering the villagers.
Techno seems to mellow out with Phil by his side, but Phil’s proximity to Techno makes him more brutal.
@mcyt-quotes made a post about how canonically Phil gets bloodthirstier around Techno, and she’s right. Phil’s goofed on how Techno “Makes him smell blood in the water” re SMPEarth before.
From a meta point of view, of course you can afford to be more reckless/attack offensive with a pvp god trailing behind you like a lost duckling at the HINT of a baby zombie noise.
From an in character POV, Phil is charging up on his chaos, a lightning rod of a server deity. He’s receiving his tributes at the altar of violence, ready to bestow back the berserker power as Godly Favor should Techno be required once again rise as his avatar of anarchy.
