“I wouldn’t bank too much on that, we were a large group and it’s not like they didn’t have good fighters to begin with.” He replied, voicing his constant concern since they were taken in at the start. “You’re right. Nothing’s gonna get past us, huh?” Tyler smirked, trying not to let his worry overburden him, especially when they needed his full attention. “Hold on-…” He said abruptly, his arm shooting out to stop her. “Over there…” He pointed towards the trees, the faintest of rustling behind them was followed by the appearance of a walker. Luckily for them there was only one. If luck had anything to do with it that was. “Want me to do the honors or you?”
“Yeah, but we make them better. There’s safety in numbers or something,” she shrugged. “Nope.” She stopped walking when he did and looked around, nodding when she spotted it. “I’ve got it.” Leona smirked at him and pulled out a large knife. Moving forward, she grabbed the walker by the neck and jammed the blade into it’s head. “Shit.” Jumping backwards, she missed the second walker that lunged at her, followed by a third. “Shit, shit, shit! There’s like three more in the bushes, move back.”
“I don’t know but it looks like there’s more of them. Where are the others?”
“They’re back behind us. The roamers split us up. What should we do?”
“I just don’t want to give them an excuse to kick us out.” He shrugged, falling into step beside her. “You know I’m as skeptical about this place as you are, but it’s still a place worth defending.” Tyler smirked over at her, arching an eyebrow. “Maybe I just like the view back here.”
“He needs us too much to kick us out.” She glanced at him, a slight frown evident on her face before it turned into a smile. “We are defending it, Ty. We’re making it a better place by making sure those monsters don’t get in.”
“I thought Gunnar would’ve had people to look into it already but apparently not.” He frowned, also annoyed with himself for not having done something about it himself. Tyler was always the first to offer up guard or perimeter duty simply because he always needed to know that his friends were safe. “Shouldn’t we-…” He’d been trying to get used to the way the people here operated, having to go through channels of authority and all that, but he also knew Leona’s mind was hard to change when she’d decided on something. “…- wait up!” He sighed and grabbed the gun and knife he’d always favored, running to catch up with her.
“Gunnar is stretched so thin in this place. It’s too big and the council he holds is too small,” she said, walking with purpose. “Not only that, but he’s blinded by his love for Gabriel. We’ll have to take care of things ourselves.” Leona knew this place meant well, and it was safe mostly, but things wouldn't stay that way. “If you’re going to follow, then learn to keep up,” she teased.
“I haven’t seen anyone going out to do them.” Tyler frowned, looking visibly worried as he glanced around, he definitely heard something too. “Dom kept saying he’s been hearing things outside the wall too.”
Leona frowned at him. “And no one’s done anything about it?” she asked, grabbing a gun and marching past him towards the wall. “We can’t sit on our asses all day, Ty. That’s how people die.”
“Be quiet. I thought I heard something. Has anyone done a perimeter run recently?”
“Fuck. You. Disgusting. Bastards.”
“Where the hell did they all come from? We need to double back and regroup.”
"Oh I don’t know, you look like you know what you’re doing there."
"Well they might be good for blunt force trauma anyway. What are you up to, Ty?"
"Whoever thought these would make good weapons was out of their minds."
