Women and Children Bless the Home

I keep coming back to the same picture of a blessed life.

Genesis gives me the beginning: male and female, made with intention, blessed with fruitfulness. Psalm 127 calls children a heritage from the Lord, arrows in the hand of a warrior. Psalm 128 shows me the wife like a fruitful vine within the house and the children like olive shoots around the table. Ephesians lays the household in order: the husband leading as one who answers to Christ, the wife receiving and strengthening that order, the children raised in obedience and instruction. Proverbs 31 gives me the woman herself in full: not fragile, not decorative, but competent, disciplined, respected, and praised by the people who know her labor best.

That is what I want.

A home with roots. A marriage with shape. A wife who is not diminished by devotion, because her devotion builds something larger than either of us. Children who know who they are because their father and mother refused to make the household vague.

There is nothing apologetic in me about wanting that blessing.

A full quiver.

A fruitful vine.

A house that serves the Lord!!!
