The second piece in my little floral portrait series!
I went into this fully intending to give Dean the same soft, romantic melancholy as my Castiel with Peonies piece… and somewhere along the way this man apparently decided he was actually having a lovely afternoon. 😂 So we ended up with something much warmer, sunnier and softer than I originally planned… and honestly, I love him for it. 😂
The lilacs nearly sent me into the fucking stratosphere, but WE SURVIVED. And I’m ridiculously happy with how all that warm golden light came together in the end. 🥹💜
Also an enormous thank you to @mugenmegami for the endless support, guidance, second opinions, and for being my designated crisis partner every time I was approximately three brushstrokes away from screaming into the void. 😂💜 I genuinely don’t think I would’ve stayed sane through this one without you. Finally done with my bog, now I can move on with my life (writing Destiel fics). Signing it felt weird, so I put a lil heart on the log. Plus, idk how to save the image with the best possible quality, so maybe it's blurrier than I intended. Oh well.
Dean is struggling with his first rut after Lisa breaks up with him. Sam convinces him to ride it out at a rut resort where he can be looked after by the staff. Dean's not confident anything can make his rut easier, but Castiel is determined.
Castiel’s walkie-talkie crackled. “Front desk to Castiel.”
Castiel sighed. “Excuse me one moment, Dean.” He pulled the walkie-talkie out of its holster. “Go for Castiel.”
“The alpha in room 402 wants to see you.”
“I’ll tend to him once I’m done checking in 404.”
“He says he needs to see you now.”
Castiel paused. “Is he having a medical emergency?”
“No. He says he was promised a morning visit and because you haven’t seen him yet, we’re not fulfilling the terms of his stay. He was very…insistent that you see him right away.”
Castiel’s eyes narrowed. “It will still be a morning visit. It’s currently 9:45, which is only fifteen minutes later than yesterday’s visit. He can wait until I’ve finished the orientation with our new guest. If he needs any snacks, supplies, or assistance with his TV, Garth can take care of that. If he won’t take Garth’s help, he’ll just have to wait. He’s low-risk and unless it’s an emergency, guest orientation always comes first.”
“I’ll let him know.”
“As will I.” Castiel shoved the walkie-talkie back into its holster.
Dean was impressed. He had initially written Castiel off as a boring corporate stiff. But there was fire behind the professionalism. He might actually like the guy.
“As I was saying,” Castiel said pleasantly. “You don’t have to select all your meals quite yet. But ideally, you’d let us know the day before. I know that’s not possible for today, so as soon as you have your lunch and dinner selected, we’d appreciate that.”
Dean gave the menu a cursory look. “Bacon cheeseburger for lunch, Pepperoni pizza for dinner.”
“Excellent,” Castiel said. “I’ll inform the kitchen.”
And after that, he was probably going to chew out the alpha in 402. Dean really wished Sam was there to hear it. For once, Dean wasn’t the problem.
