none of this is planned and i got zero focus today SOOOOO
originally, I was gonna have her be way closer to canon (the blurb up in the corner next to the fullbody of canon design) where it wouldn't be visible she's anything but human, and April herself still would have no idea either. Just aware she's different, but would think it's different as in being autistic or queer. Not that she's half-alien (she could still be autistic and queer too, and she will be bc i am <3). But originally i had thought it'd be like slightly darker blood, always got "demon eyes" on photos and invisible things. Like the hearing and vision? (← should probs note here i haven't seen 2012 lmfao. im just insane anyway <3)
alas i am an absolute sucker for humans with inhuman features (or just inhuman features in general aaaaa). so!! uhhh she could probably cover up the inhuman features now, or it's something that appears in the series and pre-canon it's just normal human features (idk if she goes to dimension x too? but if she does, that could be the start of all the kraang features popping up, maybe even immediately upon getting there. Or it'd just be from the kraang took her? someone who's actually seen the series could probably come with better ideas lmfao)
anyway DESIGN THOUGHTS!!
her freckles are all tiny kraang eyes, she's got bigger kraang eyes where her navel (? word?) should be, and two above that. And three in her face (third eye, and two below normal eyes). I almost added eyes to the kraang tentacles too but ultimately didn't bc i couldn't figure out how to draw it (but those would be like the end part itself is the eyeball). I also made her actual eyes funky too! the left is meant to be the more "kraang-y" and the right the more "human" one. I imagine she wouldn't have both at the same time like this, but rather the kraang showing up when all else do, or maybe in photos or when you see the eye completely from the side? Either way, not immediately noticeable. I want her to be able to hide and seem fully human <3
I also wanted to give her sharp nails / claws but couldn't figure out how to draw that either sO ANYWAY. Gave her a funky shaped and coloured tongue, her blood dries superfast and is black/red (just different enough to not immediately be noticed. left of human ykyk). And the pink parts on her body is also kraang-y thingy. I gave her a jellyfish haircut too, and racoon tails? i think that's what it's called? the streaks on the longer parts. And a transpin! bc i had planned on giving her trans socks (more subtle) so now it's a pin <3.
Instead of the brown wrist thingy she got in the refs i had, I decided to give her skateboard hand/wrist protections (bc. I've been wearing em lately as brace for ✨weakass wrists✨ ANYWAY). Was thinking she kinda gives me skateboarder vibes too???? idk how she just does lmao. Oh and some piercings bc it felt empty without them <3
The pink on the skin, the eyes on her body and the tentacles are inspired by @lesbikyuu design of April <3 (esp their kapril drawing hrishr. actually obsessed with it <3). I've also been inspired by @tsuki-moon-art <3 bc their April design is also sooooo aaaa <3333 both of their Aprils truly lives rent free in my head <3

i do still think April's blood is black/just the shade darker than what it should be on a human, and that pre-canon she does still look human. Again, I haven't seen 2012 yet so I couldn't say when or why the kraang features starts showing up, or how fast. But I imagine at the very least it'd be from exposure to a lot more kraang than pre-series? Of course, some things like the eye freckles and black blood might always have been there, but it wouldn't be enough to tell she's anything but human. If it takes long enough for the kraang features (and everyone finding out in canon), maybe she would at most wonder if she's some part mutant, too.
But I do really like the idea of April could have gone her whole life not knowing anything at all, or with things she could've written off as "weird quirks i probably got from mum or dad", or possibly feeling watched even when she's completely alone (bc the eye freckles). idk i really like that for humans who are just slightly left of what a human should be. I've done the same for my Misako and Nya aus + designs (Ninjago)

I want design to be human enough April could have gone her whole entire life NEVER knowing, but enough wrong she's never felt like she's fully belonged. like autism and other invisible disabilities (NOT to call kraang a disability btw or villanise bc blehh no)
• on photos always "demon eyes"' (like yk when your eyes look red in older photos?)
• eyes. scalera blue (? or green/yellow?), pupil uneven but looks normal round (unless up closee). possibly pupils not completely black either?
• eyes look completely normal except night/reflections/in photos, where the pupil is NOTICEABLE an off shape, scalera is light yellow and there's red in the iris + pupils (leaning towards rn)
• does the reflect catch light like cat eyes do
• sees way better in dark too (hmm. dark vision dnd? can see in complete darkness better than a normal human, but everything is in greys and silhouettes) (or like cat eyes hmmm)
• ginger hair with kraang-pink streaks or ombre
• hair vaguely resembles the kraang tentacles
• bit more Irish too me thinks
• "normal human" elf ears and fangs (or just the *tiniest* bit too long. Nothing ever noticeable unless you're actively looking for it)
• blood red but dries faster than a normal humans (goes brown in an hour exposed to air, rather than the hourS it's for normal humans)
• blood also got black specks inside that may or may not disappear the moment it's fully left her body (on cloths, the floor, wherever the blood was cleaned or absorbed by). black specks like the inky substance from inside eyes or tar sorta?
• def does sports (buff April propaganda!!!)
• also still journalism bc i simply cannot have an April that's not
• anger issues (with Raph!)
• perhaps a bit more alt style? grunge? low-key punk?
