Me, internally: Whenever John puts a new magazine into the Kimber 1911 he does a press check to make sure it didn’t jam, because Kimbers are notorious for jamming on the first bullet of a magazine. He doesn’t do that with any of the other guns. Also, he flicks out the old magazine to make sure it’s not stuck – something that never happens in movies but often in reality.
