The truth is Mac and Dennis could’ve taken the money Frank gave them for the suburban house and pay the rent for it, proceed to rent the house to a new tenant at a lower price, and then USE the money they got from renting out the place to get an apartment in the city… all at a discounted rate for a whole year! Frank writing the cheque out specifically to the hell house in suburbia land was not actually a dealbreaker, and they should’ve taken it. However, Mac and Dennis are not in the least bit smart enough to have thought of something like this on the spot, especially given their emotional state at the time, and it is for this very reason that they had to spend an entire year sleeping in the same bed with Dee and an old man
