Lichtenberg is home of the Esperanto-Haus, it includes a library - a so called espoteko - offers courses and regular meetings for those able to speak Esperanto or generally interested in the topic

Highly recommendable!
Nadia und Kosta offer great coffee, bagels and fresh, sweet treats. Nadia and Kosta are super friendly, as well. The place is small and cozy, it is one of these places one thinks only exist in the trendy Kiezes like Kreuzberg, but hey, apparently they also exist in Lichtenberg.

Looks like there was nightlife in Lichtenberg. Don't.
These pictures are taken in front of Avci Döner - read a full review here.
Avci takes over Lichtenberg. There might be 10 - or even more - Avci Döner shops in and around Lichtenberg and they expand from Frankfurter Alle till Storkower Strasse. Though the quality isn't too bad (I am vegetarian) and the prices are more than fair (2,50ish for any kind of falafel, hallumi sandwich), Avci is probably not about food. Since they are taking over any empty shop, opening new Avci business on a nearly daily basis (we now also have the Avci Cocktailbar, Avci Café etc. in our neighborhood) I wouldn't wonder if an Avci-Daycare, Avci-Driving school, Avci-Money laundry would be next.

A wonderful sunset and a beloved one is everything you need for a Bob Ross real life experience.

Berliner Band Contest
Whenever there is something cultural going on in Lichtenberg I feel the intrinsic urge to go there and support the locality (except, of course, for any Nazi related activities, affrays or vagabond hangouts in front of Lichtenberg's train station).
And then, March the 22nd, there was such a cultural thing going on. The Berliner Band Contest. A contest where local musicians and bands can contest their skills and the audience in the end of an evening decides who'll win the price. The whole chose is repeated - I think six times - which means there is a round of sixteen, quarter finals, semi finals and so on… Not only, do they have so many of these events, the event itself also takes about eight hours, starting out at 6.30pm and lasting until after midnight until each band had its 45minutes of fame. I handed in my voting ticket to a friend, cause I didn't like to stay tip the very end.
The musicians who played were mostly alternative, rock, punk, metal etc… I kind of felt like being 15 again ;) Nothing that let me really jump of my feet. Not because they wet bad, rather because it's not my kind of music since I'm not 15 anymore. Except maybe for a band called Partyfleisch who call their genre meat music (Fleischmusik) and really fired the masses up. Partyfleisch also won the contest for that night.
The Berliner Band Contest was located at the Rockhaus Lichtenberg, which is an old GDR office building transformed into rehearsal rooms. Looks great from the outside - because it has copper vitrification, and like an average, but big, rehearsal room - rather than a concert hall - from inside. It is located right behind the sorting lines of Lichtenberg train station, which is great because nobody can complain about the noise.
To sum up: great, events and locations like this exist in Lichtenberg - but def. not my type of music.
