forgive me if I’m incorrect I’m not American but don’t some forms of social security straight up don’t let you save? like if you have more than a certain amount in savings they stop giving it you? I’ve heard people talk about stuff like that and that would make it even more tone deaf

If you are single your asset limit (how much you’re allowed to have in your bank account) is $2,000. If you are married it is $3,000

If people on SSI/SSDI go even $1 over that limit, the social security agency will call us and immediately halt our benefits
