The "no intervention" rule is very useful for making sure the balance is maintained in cases like predator and prey. It's also there to make sure nothing like Disney's "push all the lemmings off the cliff to serve a narrative" happens again. In this case, it looks like it isn't a predator after the penguins, it's some feature of the landscape that appears to be melting--and really, that's Exxon's fault! So if there's humans there that can help they should, because without the nefarious activities of the most evil among our race that probably wouldn't be happening!

But for example, documentarians have to film cheetahs chasing gazelles, and without a doubt the gazelle is in distress there! But they can't save the gazelle, because how dare we make that decision. Cheetah's gotta eat. And as another example, we can't put out bait for animals to get a good shot, that counts as Feeding The Wild Animals and that's BAD and dangerous for everyone involved, especially the animal!
