one of the things i’ve loved about getting to watch OPLA, is being able to watch it with my family. like i’ve talked their ears off about one piece for yearssss. my family doesn’t really watch anime or if they do, it’s because i’m watching it on the big tv. so to be able to sit down and watch this season with them and commentate on things has been so much fun! when i showed them s1 back in 2023, i never expected for them to love it as much as they do. like my siblings rewatched s1 a couple times while at college!! that was huge for me!! and s2 they’ve been asking questions about who is who and giving comments and it’s so fun for me trying to be like ‘oh you know them’ or like ‘just keep watching you’ll find out’. and now s2 has them so excited for s3!

and i’m not expecting for them to go and watch the anime or read the manga, that’s just not their thing y’know? but just them enjoying the story and getting hyped for what’s to come next is just an amazing experience. and it’s not like i haven’t engaged in one piece talk with other people, my cousins are pretty big fans so i talk to them about anything one piece related, but it’s different when it’s people who are learning everything for the first time. they get that shine and excitement in their eyes that i had when first watching the anime.

I know I’m not the first person to ever think about this but I really do adore luffy and vivi’s friendship and their contrast of one another. Vivi, someone who has learned to be a leader through her father and her own experience growing up as a princess, and luffy, someone who was pretty much the youngest around him and always going head first into everything he wanted to do. (The youngest part thing doesn’t really matter, but like vivi’s maturity kinda contrasts luffy’s impulsive nature) I’m caught up on the anime, but after watching OPLA s2, I’ve had more of an appreciation for their friendship. I think because I’m rewatching the grand line to alabasta arcs again after a long time, I forgot how important the 2 are for each other. Luffy learns a lot about leadership and honor from vivi. & of course not to discredit others they encounter and other lessons luffy will learn, but with vivi he hears her words and sees the actions of those words happen right in front of him. Luffy wasn’t born into leadership in the way vivi was, but that doesn’t mean he can’t learn along the way. And for vivi, she learns to let go and trust with luffy. For her it’s obvious difficult due to the conflicts happening within her country and the baroque works organization. I’m glad she sees that she can trust the strawhats to stick to their beliefs and also act on it. Their friendship is something in the one piece world that I truly love.

And this isn’t just from OPLA s2, although that was the reason I started really thinking about this, but even in the anime I adored their friendship. I think that OPLA does a really nice job showcasing luffy learning from vivi with the camera shots and the setup. Idk I’m just rambling at this point but I can’t wait to see Alabasta arc for s3!
