Shore leave is a big deal for every trooper in the GAR.
One can tell who has shore leave soon simply from their face, the pep in their step or the restless leg bounce or the insistent tapping of gloved fingers on armoured thighs. The 'freshers work overtime whenever the shore leaves of different units clash, loud chatter filling the room — hah, rare to see you in this part of the ship, brother! — as troopers of all ranks get ready, armour lacking the usual grime, though not polished enough to shine.
The veterans are allergic to pristine armour, after all.
"You look fineee," Jesse groans when Tup pulls his hair free from its usual bun for the umpteenth time with an exasperated huff, only to gather his hair back again in practised motions.
"It doesn't look right." Tup mumbles through the hair tie in his mouth, securing the hair back into the same position.
"If you keep pulling any harder, you're going to end up bald before you even get a chance to see your sweetheart, haha!"
"Not helping, Hardcase." Kix chides, shutting his medical kit in favour of walking over to Tup's bunk, settling down on the edge not to get in his way, "I feel like you're fidgeting, Tup. I do have some equipment that needs fixing if you need something to keep your hands busy."
"And here I thought you were trying to be helpful," Fives' head descends from above, and Tup can see Kix contemplating whether he should pull him down by the collar or not as he hangs halfway down the top bunk. "I don't know what you're so nervous about, really." Fives rolls his eyes, "You've got your girlfriend waiting to welcome you back when we dock. Be more excited! You should feel like you're able to fly down there with a jetpack alone to see 'em sooner!"
"I am," Tup groans, head already pounding.
Whether it's from his brothers' incessant teasing or the hair tie pulling at his hair, he can't tell.
"I'm just gonna check my gear," He beelines for the door before anyone can squeeze in a comment about the flimsy excuse.
Take-off can't come any sooner.
Tup has to make extra effort to keep his body in check. Fidgeting and squirming are discouraged even for cadets, and he doesn't want think about how it would come across if he were to fail at something so simple as not doing something.
Especially not when he can feel all the eyes on him even through the helmets.
The landing is smooth, and the sound of the engine dying down is music to his ears. All he has to do is follow procedure, report to his superior and to be dismissed before he can finally make his way over to your home.
In his daze, he doesn't realise he's been shoved all the way to the front for the roll call by his brothers just so he can leave as early as possible.
The way to your home is ingrained in his mind deeply enough that he can navigate the streets with ease, stopping only to make sure he looks good enough on whatever reflective surface catches his eye.
Just as he lifts a finger to press the doorbell, the door is thrown open, a hand latching on his forearm to yank him inside, slamming the door shut equally as fast as it opened.
"H—" he snorts, arms wrapping around your waist as you press your lips wherever you can reach, mouth clumsily smacking against his skin in a barrage of sloppy kisses. "Hi, hello to you too."
"Welcome back," you press your lips on his temple, making a show of dragging out the kiss in a loud smooch before pulling back to finally take a good look at him, the overflowing tenderness in his eyes mirroring your own.
"I suppose I don't have to ask if you missed me." He chuckles, nestling his face into your neck like a content tooka now that you have freed him from your affectionate assault.
"If you ask a stupid question, you will get a stupid answer."
"That's fair," he muses, taking small steps towards the sofa without compromising his hold on you, "Well, I missed you."
"I missed you too, sweetheart." Feathering the pads of your fingertips over his nape, "Tell me everything." The moment you both settle on the couch, you hook a nail on the hair tie holding his hair up, pulling it off in favour of carding your hands through the soft strands.
"You first," Tup slumps into your chest, then, with a teasing lilt to his voice, tacks on; "Then I can tell you all about how I saved Fives' ass on a mission."
"Oh?" you hum, "You can't just say that and expect me wait. Oh hold on—" you move to get up, though Tup's arms remain cemented around you. "Are you hungry? I made lunch. We can also get snacks... I bought this new flavour of tea cakes—"
"Mm," A non commital hum sounds from his throat. Even though he can't imagine refusing when he's been surviving off of flavourless rations, he doesn't really want to let go yet, his body barely having gotten used to your warmth.
Instead, you're hoisted up snugly in his arms as he makes his way over to the kitchen.
"Show off," you snort, looping his arms around his neck.
"You're stuck with me either way." Tup shrugs, a bashful smile tugging on his lips as he lifts you up with ease so you can get your designated mugs from the cabinet.
"Oh dear. To be carried around like royalty by my handsome boyfriend, what a predicament."

For someone who claims he is not good with words, Hunter sure is good at communicating.
