HAVE FUN! Ā :)
always reblog, this is sooo useful!
Amazing list of free resources!
how & when to cleanse your tarot cards āØ
how to cleanse:
shuffle - shuffle your cards for some time with cleansing intent.
sort the cards - put the cards back in the order of the major arcana from 0-21, wands, cups, swords, and then pentacles. let them stay like this for a short while, until you feel theyāre cleansed, and then shuffle them again.
crystals - choose a crystal with your intent and place it on top of your deck, or create a crystal grid around it.
smoke cleansing - pass your deck through the smoke of burnt sage or rosemary, or through the smoke from insense.
sunlight/moonlight - natural light sources give healing energies to your deck. sunlight is more masculine, while moonlight is more feminine. keep this in mind when choosing a light source and whatās best for your deck.
meditation - meditate on the cards. this may be one card at a time or the whole deck at once.
yoga - do yoga with your deck, this will soothe and cleanse you both and create a stronger bond between you and your deck.
sound - use a song, a bell, or an instrument to wash vibrations over and through your deck to release energy.
salt - sprinkle salt gently over your deck or put your deck in an airtight bag and submerge it in a bowl of salt and let the salt absorb pent up energies.
sigils - write a cleansing sigil on a slip of paper and put it in the box or bag with your deck.
fresh air - set your deck on a windowsill by a cracked open window. allow the movement of fresh air to cleanse the pent up energy from your cards.
close contact - keep your deck beside or under your pillow as you sleep to both cleanse and build a close relationship with your deck.
when to cleanse:
brand new deck - if you bought or have been gifted a new or secondhand deck, the best way to sort out its energy is to cleanse it before the first use.
after each use - this is the best way to upkeep the health of your cards.
every day - a great way to take care of your cards, routine cleansing is a wonderful daily ritual for you and your deck.
when someone else touches it - energies can get muddled when someone other than the reader touches a deck.
after a complicated reading - your deck can run out of energy quickly when you ask it to do a complcated reading, and the best way to replenish these energies is to cleanse.
after not using it for a while - stagnant energies will build up in your deck if you go a while between uses. the best way to counteract this is a thorough cleansing.
with your life cycles - whether moon cycles, menstrual cycles, or sleep cycles, cleansing your deck when your energy is high can be a good idea.
whenever your deck tells you - sometimes you will be able to feel when your deck needs to be cleansed. a good cleansing and recharging is helpful when shuffling becomes difficult, youāre getting the same cards repeatedly, or you feel your deck run low on energy.
Yāall asked for it so yāall gonna get it! Iāmma start off with the barebones essentials and work my way to basic definitions. Sit down on something comfy and get yourself your warm beverage of choice and maybe grab a notebook because here goes.
What are runes?
Runic alphabets have been around since about 150 AD and used as a writing system by a lot of Germanic languages. These systems were eventually phased out, slowly but surely, with the progressive Christianisation that started around 700-1100 AD. The three most commonly known (and used?) Are the Elder Futhark, the Younger Futhark and Futhorc.
Runes arenāt, themselves, broadly meant for divination, thought there are a few passages in the Eddas that mention OdinĀ āfindingā and using them.
Alright, so which alphabet should I use?
Whichever one you want! I prefer using the Elder Futhark, because itās the first alphabet I learned and got familiar with, but that doesnāt at all stop you from using the Younger Futhark or Futhorc. Iād heavily suggest making sure you read up on the differences in each alphabet though; Ansuz, for example, wonāt look the same, mean the same or even be called the same from one alphabet to another.Ā
Familiarize yourself with each of them if you want/can, and choose based on your own preferences and criteria. Always work with what feels best for you!
But Iām not really familiar with Germanic traditions / Iām a baby witch, should or can I use runes for divination?
This is the concept that got my goat real good the first time. You do not, in any way, shape or form, need to be experienced to cast runes. This is a notion that is outdated and perpetuated by gatekeepers and exclusionists. No one gives a flying flip how long youāve been practicing witchcraft, or if you even practice at all!
Divination should be seen as a tool to further yourself and/or your craft. It can be used by itself or in conjunction with other activities, practices or beliefs. I was 15 when I started learning about runes (dear god that was literally over ten years ago) and I had no idea what I was doing back then. I read up as much as I could about the system I was wanting to use and, once I was comfortable with it, I started doing small readings.
It shouldnāt matter how new or familiar you are to divination, rune casting or Germanic traditions. If rune casting feels right to you, you are more than free to use whatever divination method feels right to you.
What should I do before I start a reading?
As a Norse Pagan, I usually invoke my patron deities (Baldr and Loki, in this case), as well as Odin and Freyja, sometimes Gullveig/Heiưr because reasons. I have no idea whether or not this has any actual bearing on the reading itself, as mine were as accurate before I converted as they are now.
Making sure youāre in a quiet and/or comfortable space is also a good idea, even if that just means popping in some earphones and listening to something that makes you focus and feel calm.
This is also a good time to mention that cleansing your runes (stone, bone, wood or otherwise) is a very good idea. I typically do this with candles, incense, a bowl of water and a point of quartz for each element. I donāt do this nearly as often as I probably should, since most people suggest cleansing them after each reading⦠but, whatever, being lax with that hasnāt bitten me in the ass so far. So if youāre a spoonie, donāt worry: cleanse your runes when you feel they need to be cleansed, and thatās it.
Alright, I think Iām ready; how do I start reading?
Let me start by saying that the bullshit about never reading yourself? Itās just that. Bullshit. Do readings on yourself if you want to. Who the hell is going to stop you. Do whatever you want.
On that note, there are a few ways to cast runes, though these probably arenāt close to being the only ones:Ā
Intuitively choosing the stones Lay the runes down on a flat surface and let your hand hover over them and pick out the ones that feel right. You can either pick them in order of the spread youāre using, or place the runes where you feel they belong on the spread.
Throwing the stones Make sure you have a large flat surface to work with (preferably the floor honestly) where you wonāt drop, scatter or lose a rune. You can use a mat underneath, and read the stones that fall on the corresponding positions in the spread or circle. (You can find many of these with a quick google search, or make your own mat!) Otherwise, you can take the first stones you see facing up and lay those out according to your spread.
Picking them blindly Either you or the person youāre reading pull stones blinding out of a pouch, bag or other container, and lay them out according to the spread youāre using. Pretty straightforward.
If you can think of another method, literally nothing is stopping you from using that instead. The runes are acting as a universal translator for whatever it is youāre tapping into. Theyāre just a tool to receive a message. How you choose to receive that message is completely up to you!
So Iāve got my runes laid out, now what?
Now comes the fun part. I can only really give you a good run-down of the Elder Futhark, and though itās a good starting point, I would highly advise you do your own research on whatever alphabet you want to use. Wikipedia is a great place to start, but donāt stop there: look at several different websites and lists and compare. Combine and condense the information for yourself, and get to learn the definitions and meanings for yourself!

Phew! What a list. These are just brief descriptions and meanings that Iāve been able to compile and condense over the years.
But, what doesĀ āopposedā mean?
I see where youāre coming from. As a baby diviner, I, also, was confused by this. But let me explain how Iāve come to understand it!Ā
Sometimes, if youāre doing a set spread, youāll have a spot for things like,Ā āwhat will oppose youā, orĀ āwhat you need to avoidā. Things like that. If, say, a rune like Suwilo was found in something like that, youād want to try and keep a sharp mind to avoid deceptions or letting yourself be too gullible.
When runes donāt have a reversed form, their position in your spread will usually determine what they mean. (Though really this is true for literally any rune.)
Anything else I should know?
The best advice I can ever give anyone is to always do what you feel is right. If you find yourself wondering,Ā āShould I do this? Is this right?ā If you question yourself at all, you should probably not to the thing and go with something else.
Itās also important to mention that the names I have for the runes may not be the ones that youāve learned to know them by; a lot of runes can go by different names depending on who you ask and where you look. Do your research, and know the runes by the names you feel are best! (And preferably historically accurate.)
As always, if you have any questions regarding runes and how to read them, please ask me! My ask box is literally always open and almost always empty.

The Moon š
Mysterious, secretive, reflective⦠beautiful.
The next step to learning astrology is, in my opinion, the most fun. The moon sign.
The sun will reveal a brighter, forced part of yourself, but the moon comes naturally. Just like the waves of an ocean, the moon sways our emotions and feelings. The sign your moon is in is also reflective of the you that you were as a child: shy and awkward or bright and talkative? The moon reveals all. Even when the sun does not shine on it, it still lingers there, hiding your secrets but still with a promise that what has been lost will be found.
So now; without further adu, my take on what your moon sign means for you. Heads up: this is gonna be a long one. I have spent YEARS taking note of someoneās birthday (famous people and close friends alike), specifically looking at the moon sign for them.
Moon in Aries
When the moon is in Aries, the emotions are rash, passionate, and childish. This āchildishā doesnāt always act as a flaw, as it can sometimes be refreshing with someone who views things innocently and honestly. Despite being inattentive at times, these natives are perceptive to their emotional environments and āfeelā things out rather directly. If something is bothering them, they are not shy at all when bringing it up. In fact, these individuals are rather good at talking about their feelings. The only time they falter at being direct is when they feel theyāre being threatened emotionally in some way, and even then, subconscious body language is bound to give them away. Moon in Aries can be quite infuriating sometimes, but sometimes the truth they are trying to point out is where the real hurt comes from. These are amazing friends for keeping you in line and also complimenting you on your achievements.
Moon in Taurus
The moon in Taurus is stubborn, unmoving, and powerful. These natives can take a tremendous amount of emotional stress and pressure before they break. Unlike the comparatively easy-going Aries, the moon in Taurus thinks long and hard before expressing their feelings to others. When they finally do, they will stubbornly uphold everything they have and havenāt said. They are also very traditional, and may have conflicting thoughts regarding gender, for example, a born man may have trouble expressing feminine thoughts and vice versa for a born woman. These people also have a strong sense of loyalty. There are very few things which would convince them to betray their companions trust, especially in emotional matters.
Moon in Gemini
The nitty gritty of this sign is hard to pin down. Their emotions flow from one place to the next in a matter of seconds, yet not necessarily like water, the flow is more remiscent of the wind. Unlike Arian moons, these natives lack a hard substance in their emotions. Not to say that they arenāt there, because they certainly are, but they donāt have dramatic, passionate urges. In fact, theyāre modes of handling emotion would be to approach it logically. Rarely will these individuals get caught up in the heat of a moment for anything other than sheer curiosity. These natives have a yearning to understand the human psyche and flow of emotion, but when it comes to their own, they have few dramatic instances.
Moon in Cancer
The moon in cancer is quite different from Gemini. It is extremely loyal, shy, and very much tangible. Their energy is like bounds of water held behind a dam. The emotions are not easily shared with others, and when it is, they need to have complete trust and honesty from the other person. Even those who are more open keep their deepest thoughts and feelings in some sort of containment. These individuals are also the first in this list to be the most intuitive. The water signs are much more privy to having an empathetic niche about them. For cancer, however, this empathy is more geared for their loved ones. For anyone else, the cancer native has their emotional curtains closed. In other words, they more easily handle blocking out unwanted energy than Pisces, but not as well as Scorpio.
Moon in Leo
The moon in Leo is dramatic, boisterous, and self-orientated. No matter how self-absorbed these natives may seem sometimes, they are perhaps one of the most self-aware of their emotions. They see their own energy clearly. Sometimes, this supposed self-absorption is just them trying to relate to the emotions of others. This self-awareness oft can turn into problems of self-consciousness. After all, seeing their flaws is just as easy, if not more, as seeing their best features. Leo doesnāt do well in the moon; it wants to shine, but only at the mercy of the sun. A Leo moon with a critical sun, like a Capricorn sun, is bound to have plenty of blockages of energy, especially around their sense of self. Nonetheless, the sunshine is STILL there, that fun and cool person, they just need to feel emotionally safe.
Moon in Virgo
The moon in Virgo is very particular, critical, and intelligent. For the Virgo moon native, their emotions may appear to them as different pieces of a puzzle they have yet to finish, or something that needs to be logically understood. While mutable like Gemini, the Virgo has more deep and sensual emotions. But similar to Leo, the only person the Virgo feels they have to prove themselves to is themselves. They fight their negative emotions more than others, and their perceptive nature lets them see every single flaw. The challenge for this native is to accept their imperfections, and find peace with the craziness of the world and their own psyche. This moon is less focused on the emotional nature of the world and more so with the emotional nature of themselves and those closest to them.
Moon in Libra
The moon in libra is flighty, sociable, and naturally shying away from conflict. The lunar Libran will find themselves fighting many emotions in the name of keeping the peace, even if it means their own unhappiness with the matter. Sometimes, they will even shy away from the conflict in their own mind, preferring to focus on more positive and āprettyā emotions rather than dealing with more darker matters. These natives are still intelligent and have an eye for beauty, but this part of them is subject to the scrutiny of their sun. This may make them more or less likeable. The biggest challenge for the moon in libra is find a way to express their true feelings without filtering or putting on a facade.
Moon in Scorpio
It is not clear whether Scorpio does or doesnāt thrive in the moon. Here, it is secretive, passionate, and intense. The natives have deep wells of emotions inside them, and they are only unleashed once in a blue moon. This sign is one of the most distrustful, with emotions this strong and powerful, those who are smart take care not to let them flow regularly all the time. This moon does not flow well with a sun that is boisterous and expressive, like a fire sign, because it draws upon a well that has long since been holed up. Lunar scorpios are transformative in nature. Their energy has the power to make or ruin someone elseās day. These are the people who, when angry, leave a scalding energy everywhere they walk. But when you befriend them, it can be very rewarding.
Moon in Sagittarius
The moon in Sagittarius is light-hearted, fleeting, and intelligent. These natives are one of the most adept at handling their feelings. Although they do have some yearning to make logic and sense of their emotions, their exploration of the mind is more so for the sake of curiosity than scrutiny. They have a need to have some sort of self-understanding and usually work well with others because their emotions just kind of āmake senseā to them naturally. The Sagittarius moon is also somewhat optimistic when it comes to their emotions. They can easily approach their darker emotions with a sense of humor and live comfortably with their secrets. Their biggest challenge is probably this need for self-exploration, which can lead them to a sort of restlessness. They may feel trapped if circumstances do not allow for emotional freedom and exploration that they desire.
Moon in Capricorn
The moon in Capricorn is critical, practical, and punctual. These individuals experience emotion with a sense of apprehensiveness, because unlike other areas of life, emotions are not so easy to categorize and explain. Just like the Virgo moon, the lunar Capricorn can have a hard time because of their own critical nature. Self-consciousness is not unheard of with these individuals, and they may also have a hard time sharing and exploring their emotions. On the other hand, they are unlikely to have passionate and quickly passing emotions. While not as slow to anger as a Taurus, they also do take some time to break down because of their own determination to stay sane. As companions, the lunar Capricorn is also emotionally dependable and welcomes the energy of a loved one. They are the ultimate caregiver.
Moon in Aquarius
The moon in Aquarius is also another difficult one to pin down. In my experience, the lunar Aquarian has experienced something in their childhood that has stripped them of their ability to explore and express their own feelings. Emotion is stale and dry in the fixed wind sign, and while they do indeed have real and valid emotions, they are buried and encrypted deep within the logical and impersonal heart of the Aquarius. As a lunar Pisces, the lunar Aquarians Iāve been friends with have never failed to perplex me. At the end of the day itās very difficult to find out what they really feel because that is hard to pinpoint for themselves. They might view their own feelings as ādifferentā and quirky from those of others out of sheer will to not confront their feelings.
Moon in Pisces
The moon in Pisces is easily swayed, empathetic, and psychic. While the other signs are rather adept at hiding emotions if they want to, a lunar Pisces practically drips with emotions at all points. There are few walls to contain their feelings and it flows continuously from all points. Even a lunar Pisces who is rather quiet about their personal feelings will express subconscious body language that will give them away. Other moons knows they can easily trust or distrust this person from the moment they meet them. This sign is also bound to have problems creating boundaries. With their heart continuously on their sleeve, there is not a single one without a single story that has taught them to be more careful with their relationships and what they allow.
Hope you guys enjoyed! All of these positions can be found on cafeastrology.com for free, along with their own interpretations.

on my latest trip to the beach, i collected enough fragments to complete a project iād been envisioning: a seashell nordic rune set. each piece i chose has a relatively smooth white side, onto which i painted a black rune and sealed it with a light coat of clear nail polish. theyāre pleasing in the hands, and they are shaped so distinctly by the oceanās energy that they feel intrinsically magical and a perfect medium for divination.
since iām new to casting runes, i also spent some time adding extended rune meanings to my grimoire. they are paraphrased from an excellent series by @grumpylokeanelder - please go check those out! i also added some tarot correspondences to help me cross-reference as i learn.
they were finished in time to charge under the solstice full moon, but i havenāt found the right time yet to start getting to know themā¦

The Elements and their correspondences
E A R T H
Earth represents strength, grounding, prosperity, the material, wealth, success, foundations, death and rebirth. Focus on this element if the goal of your spell is about fertility, prosperity, business or stability. Earth spells may take longer to work, but theyāre also more firm and are good if youāre looking for long-term solutions.

Air represents intellect and the mind, wisdom, knowledge; logic as well as abstract thought, intuition and higher consciousness. If youāre seeking freedom, travels, or toĀ enhance your memory and focus - focus on Air spells! Fire represents energy, passion, purification, love, inspiration, desire, will, courage, power, leadership, sexuality. In spellcraft, focusing on Fire is good for purification, healing and love spells; itās the best element for quick, strong spells. Although, Fire is fierce in essence, and Fire spells are susceptible - they should be well thought out.

Water represents purification as well; though itās focused more on the soul and the subconscious rather than the physical, material world. Water stands for emotion, intuition, wisdom, eternal movement, reflection, lunar energy. Focusing on the Water element is good for psychic abilities, getting in tune with your inner self, mysteries, friendships, love, dreams and sleep.

I FUCKING LOVE THIS ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
I try to remain mostly positive on my blog but i must point out that anyone who takes their practice very seriously will not enjoy the book Basic Witches. To me it takes the very real ans serious parts about witchcraft and turns it into some joke about how to be this Hollywood perception of a witch. I docnot recommend.
Pastel spells is a lifesaver!!! @orriculum look at yooooh!!!
