When does Anne take place?

My Approximate Timeline:

1877 Anne is adopted

1881 Anne begins Queens College

1882 Anne begins teaching in Avonlea

1884 Anne goes to Redmond College

1886 Anne breaks Gilbert’s heart

1888 Anne graduates Redmond with her BA

1891 Anne and Gilbert get married

1893 Jem (oldest living child) is born

1899 Rilla (youngest living child) is born

1914 WWI

How did I calculate that? Here’s how:

1. WWI, which begins in 1914, happens when Jem is 21.

2. Jem is born at least 18 months after Gilbert and Anne are married (9 months pregnant Joyce + 9 months pregnant Jem), but probably a little later than 18 months.

3. So, the books’ timeline is as follows:

- Anne adopted at age 11

- Anne goes to Queens for 1 year at age 15

- Anne teaches school for 2 years

- Anne goes to college 4 years

- Anne is a principal for 3 years

- Anne is married for 1.5+ years before pregnant with Jem

- Jem lives 21 years before WWI starts 1914

4. So, since 4+1+2+4+3+1.5+21 = 36.5, there are 36.5 years approximately between Anne being adopted and WWI

5. 1914-36.5 = 1877.5, so the first book theoretically takes place in 1877.

Note: in just about every adaptation Anne begins the series older than 11 which affects the timeline. For example, in Anne with an E, Anne is 13 when she is adopted, so the start date is 1879 unless they mess with the timeline further.
