While watching a DVD from the library my TV popped up a message saying to press a button if I wanted to watch this from additional providers.
It's never done that before so I looked it up and turns out Roku TVs have added all sorts of creepy things in the privacy section since I last checked.
One of which being they take screenshots from what you're watching and send them to third parties to identify it.
Fucking hell! Remember when every fucking device in your life wasn't a spy implanted in your home and working against your interests to try and sell your data? Remember how nice that was??
Remember when the TV was just a tool that would play the things you plugged into it?
Why must the future suck SO much?
TVs collect a huge amount of data. Here's how to use privacy settings to limit the surveillance on TVs from LG, Samsung, TCL, and every othe
A good rundown on what each brand of TV is up to and which settings you should turn off.
PSA - Do not buy an LG smart TV. They just added a line to their terms of use that it's the user's responsibility to inform any guests in their house that by entering they consent to be recorded, in order to comply with wiretapping laws. That thing is literally recording you.
You can find tutorials online telling you how to open that thing up and physically remove the mic and wifi module. Frankly I don't trust anything less.
Please watch the Gamers Nexus video on LG Smart TV's and monitors! It's basically malware at this point.
well thatâs it. doomsday is coming. iâve been slacking on my checklist, need to get back to it lol
btw remember that home generates individual pokemon trackers SERVER SIDE which will make it extremely difficult if not impossible for anyone to develop a method to do bank -> home transfers after this shutdown. you will NOT be able to just emulate a transfer with hacking tools after this. miracles can happen but absolutely assume that this is a permanent change and get any transfers you need done BEFORE the deadline. you should NOT rely on believing that there will be some way to do this after the deadline
"i don't care at all about the stock market or know what an estate lawyer is, because i'm not rich đ" your death will be a nightmare for your loved ones to deal with and their death will be a nightmare for you. if you are an adult i'm not saying you need to have a trustee on standby for your vast fortune but you should at least know what "probate" means
this is your reminder that you should make a will. if you are in the US you can make a simple one for free at freewill.com, or willfora.com if you're in Canada. if you need anything complex talk to a lawyer (i promise a consultation with a lawyer is cheaper than probate delays/an extended legal fight.) but these sites will cover your basics (I want my partner to get my car, I want my roommate to get my cat, everything else goes to charity/my other partner/my kids/my next door neighbor who brings me brownies.) the state does not care that you have been estranged from your parents for a decade or have been separated from your spouse the money will go wherever the state says it does UNLESS! you have a will.
freewill also has healthcare directives! if you have ever been concerned about your partner(s) being unable to visit you in the hospital or make medical decisions for you if you are unable to make or communicate your own wishes - especially if you are unmarried/poly - you should have a healthcare directive. they are extremely easy to put together and you can designate multiple people as agents; freewill's tool also lets you designate people you do NOT want making decisions for you (for instance, your very Catholic parents.) if you're outside the US you can search "advanced healthcare directive (country)" and usually find a toolkit; often end of life advocacy-type organizations will have them.
nobody wants to think about these things but even more do you not want your loved ones to have to think about these things, very stressfully and expensively, while they are grieving you. make a will. đŤľ

i'm begging you guys to start pirating shit from streaming platforms. there are so many websites where you can stream that shit for free, here's a quick HOW TO:
1) Search for: watch TITLE OF WORK free online
2) Scroll to the bottom of results. Click any of the "Complaint" links
3) You will be taken to a long list of links that were removed for copyright infringement. Use the 'find' function to search for the name of the show/movie you were originally searching for. You will get something like this (specifics removed because if you love an illegal streaming site you don't post its url on social media)
4) each of these links is to a website where you can stream shit for free. go to the individual websites and search for your show/movie. you might have to copy-paste a few before you find exactly what you're looking, but the whole process only takes a minute. the speed/quality is usually the same as on netflix/whatever, and they even have subtitles! (make sure to use an adblocker though, these sites are funded by annoying popups)
In conclusion, if you do this often enough you will start recognizing the most dependable websites, and you can just bookmark those instead. (note: this is completely separate from torrenting, which is also a beautiful thing but requires different software and a vpn)
you can also download the media in question (look for a "download" button built into the video window, or use a browser extension such as Video DownloadHelper.)
reiterating that you absolutely need an adblocker for these sites (to avoid malware if nothing else), and i HOPE you already have one installed bc using a (free) adblocker for daily browsing tremendously improves your internet experience!
I recommend installing uBlock Origin whenever possible (Adblock Plus is also popular). Also using Firefox, bc they're a nonprofit that gives you privacy and lets you fight ads, while Chrome is owned by Google; they just want to mine your data and sell ads.
How To Block Ads:
for Desktop, click this uBlock Origin link (works with most browsers). install, restart browser, good to go!
for Android, open Firefox and go to "3 dots menu > add-ons > add-on manager > enable uBlock Origin." (this also blocks youtube ads within firefox!). this doesn't work on Chrome, because Chrome hates you, but there are some ad-blocking apps in the play store that will give you varying results.
for iOS, it's trickier, bc Apple also hates you. here are some recommended apps in the app store. (some of them keep premium features behind a paywall, bc again Apple hates you. but there are options.) If those aren't enough, Firefox comes to the rescue again with the Firefox Focus browser app, which includes a powerful built-in adblocker. I can't find specifics, but try clicking the 3 dots menu and fiddling around to customize your preferences.
in conclusion: a combination of Android, Firefox, and uBlock Origin makes for the best browsing experience. But no matter what system/browser combo you use, please install at least one adblocker. you will thank yourself every damn day. it will give you a faster, safer, and much less aggravating experience as a user of the Modern Internet (derogatory)

A scoober.
I reblogged this last month, tagged it, and said âmight as well see if it works.â I used this video as a reference to find all the forms that i needed (which is A LOT, especially if youâre a dependent) and sent them through the mail, not really allowing myself to hope.

$2,714 of medical debt from my top surgery - gone. im shaking this was such a weight on me for 2 years and it fucking worked. what the fuck.
This is huge. Sharing for my US friendos.
Hospitals like to hide these policies under a lot of successive links in obscure places, so if you don't see anything right away, keep looking! Get friends to help! Make it a scavenger hunt. A game where you're assassins sent to slit capitalism's throat

Please don't ask me for relationship advice unless you are prepared to receive some truly upsetting information because some people are ready for the "He's exhibiting the literal textbook signs of a psychological abuser and you need to get away from him before he successfully cuts you off from your support network" talk and some people aren't
FOR WHOEVER NEEDS A REMINDER:
There is never any justification for someone putting their hands on you in any way without your consent short of immediate risk of harm or death.
If someone tells you that "the way I'm acting is your fault because you know that doing X thing would make me do it and you chose to do it anyway" is just fancy bullshit talk for, "I know my behaviour is wrong, but I don't want to be held responsible for it so I'm pushing it on you"
Nothing good ever, ever comes from someone who tells you, "I don't want you talking about our relationship with anyone". This person cannot handle accepting responsibility and processing criticism so they need you to never, ever question them. That's easier if they control the narrative and your friends aren't there to cut in.
Nothing constructive comes from screaming.
"It's not like that all the time" is optimistic and sweet, but the truth is, it shouldn't be like that at all. Sweet words and gifts and gestures don't erase being frightened for yourself or for your loved ones. That is not normal. Don't minimize it.
It is not healthy or normal to be genuinely afraid of saying "no" to someone, for any reason at all. Violence, outbursts, retaliation, anything. You should not have to be afraid of someone's reaction to your boundaries.
You are not responsible for saving anyone. Even if you love them. Even if they have nobody else. At the end of the day, if they want to hurt themselves in any way, they will, and you can't stop them forever. People need to want to improve before they can actually improve, and if they're threatening to harm themselves to keep you around, they're using your love to hold themselves hostage. You do not decide their choices for them, and they don't get to shunt that off on you.
There will always be other people who can love you better. You will not be alone forever. This will not be the last time you care for someone like this and it will not be the last time someone cares for you
This applies to ALL relationships btw
On Dentists
So I canât brush my teeth. Like, itâs the worst kind of hell. I went to the dentist for a cleaning today and I told the hygienist this, and she was wonderfully helpful.
There are some incredibly soft toothbrushes available- namely, post-surgical brushes. Running them under hot water makes them even softer.
She told me that you donât really need to use toothpaste- itâs mostly marketing. The foam gets to me, so that is really reassuring.
She gave me two particularly soft brushes and some xylitol gum. Trident is a market brand of xylitol gum, which helps with your teeth and can make your breath smell better.
The whole purpose of brushing is to disrupt plaque buildup. You donât need to brush twice a day, every day with toothpaste if you brush correctly- little circles, focusing on near the gums (where most plaque builds up). So if youâre having a bad sensory day and canât brush at all, itâs not the end of the world.
Hell, you donât even need a toothbrush if even the post-surgical ones are too harsh. Going over your teeth with the same motions using a washcloth is enough.
She wants to find a fluoride rinse that has a taste I can stand (peppermint is the only mint I can stand) but sheâs not particularly worried about it.
I go to Dr. Barr in Chicago. If you can get to the State St. Macyâs, his office is nearby. Heâs very kind and patient and really understanding of my needs as an autistic person. The hygienist, I donât know her name, announced everything she was going to do before she did it, and stopped frequently to see how I was doing.
This is really the only positive dentist Iâve ever had- past dentists have been too rough and not bothered to help find ways I can actually brush.
Basically this is a glowing recommendation for Dr. Barrâs office if youâre autistic, afraid of dentists, or have sensory needs. This is a recommendation even if you donât have any of those things.
Im actually crying i feel like this post was reblogged for me oh my god oh my god oh my lord thank you
You can also dilute your mouthwash and use it to swish around if it burns. My dentist does this so consider it dentally approved
If you were feeling guilty about your brushing habits, either due to sensory issues, pain, allergies, executive dysfunction, or just plain fatigue, hereâs what you need to know about what is and isnât necessary if your dental care!
Post-covid, I got really horrible shit going on with my gag reflex where for some reason the mint flavor of toothpaste (and only toothpaste) would make me gag so hard that Iâd throw up. Then I found a kids toothpaste thatâs like strawberry flavored or something, but it has the proper adult amount of flouride, so it works for me and I donât gag much anymore. Hereâs an article with some options if youâre like me lol
Dr. Gemma Wheeler lists best non-mint toothpaste options for adults. The list includes those that are truly non mint, without oils or aromas
Also for the people who canât stand foam, the ingredient youâre looking to avoid is called SLS.
SLS is short for Sodium Laurel Sulfate
Itâs not just responsible for foaming, itâs also what fucks up your sense of taste after you brush
Orange and mint is actually a lovely combination, but SLS and citric acid isnât
if you have access to an indian grocery store, they also have amazing herbal flavors of the multinational toothpaste brands! i recommend those to anybody who hates the flavors of the usual american toothpastes.
