What you see:
aThis painting is of a regatta I assume to be on the Clyde River in Glasgow.
It is an Oil on canvas piece with large palette knife strokes among smaller brush strokes for details.
There are two, 8 man boats racing down the river with a smaller safety or referee boat behind them.
There is alot of people on the left hand side bank watching, all finely dressed with the men wearing either trilby or bowler hats and the women wearing fancy dresses and sunhats, the red dresses and hats in the crowd stand out among the usual brown and grey.
There are a few deck chairs that adorne the waterfront and a marquee type banner with flags further up river.
This is a bright and cheerful painting that seems to have been painted during either midsummer or early spring as there is still alot of clouds in the sky but its obviously quite warm as not many people are wearing winter coats and jackets.
In the lower right corner is a woman laying in a canal/river boat watching the race.
There is also other boats and pontoons across the water with people watching, this seems like a really large event for this area.
This painting is very much like a streephoto would be like today or a journalistic photo.
