kind of a chad move for tma's thesis on humanity vs monstrosity to be that there's nothing more human than deciding to be a monster. kindness is plenty human, too, sure, but being driven to do something terrible out of fear and desperation is about as fundamentally human as it gets.

the problem with writing tma fanfiction is that I'll sit down thinking "okay, I've got an idea and I just wanna go for it, cut right to the quick, totally self indulgent, 4k words max," but unfortunately the idea usually involves jon, and he's never cut right to the quick in his life. I try to lure him into having a low stakes but emotionally honest conversation in private with his romantic partner but the fucker just won't budge. I am literally playing god trying to squeeze a single verbal expression of genuine human emotion out of this fucking victorian orphan of a ghost librarian and he just pops right out of my hand like a wet bar of soap. I made it nice I set the scene I got him comfortable but jonathan "I feel sad" "the archivist" sims is determined to ruin my whole fucking life.

martin, baby, you're golden. you may occasionally be self-conscious to the point of clamming up, or bitchy enough that it clouds your judgment, but you will at least voluntarily open your mouth and say words about your thoughts and feelings that you believe to be true. but your lame ass boyfriend with a master's degree in self-harm barely even thinks he's a person, and it makes me want to write a self-insert oc just to grab him by the lapels and make him speak his mind on pain of death.
