°˖ ✧ still lost in his thoughts and assuming he was alone, haru doesn’t notice the approaching figure until he hears the other’s voice, startling him out of his own world and causing him to jump in his spot, a hand clutching his sweatshirt. eyes that were once focused on the vending machine and determined to free his drink if it was the last thing he does widen in shock as he turns around to see who the new arrival is. (he really hopes it’s not someone who’ll get him in trouble.)
luckily, he finds himself faced with another trainee and one he was actually familiar with– even if they had never really talked much aside from when he first joined the company and the other introduced herself to him as wren. they were both part of the evening training sessions but with the boys and girls separated and haru not being the type to approach people first, opportunities for conversation were sparse. however, he much prefers being caught by a fellow trainee than say, a staff member so he thinks maybe his day is looking up finally.
he lets out a sigh of relief he doesn’t realize he’s even holding in in the first place and smiles sheepishly in response to the female’s question. “it could be better,” he admits, still talking in english without thinking. it’s only then that he realizes that wren spoke in the same language as he did and his eyes light up. he knows he isn’t the only trainee in the company who can speak english but chances to speak in what he’d consider his native tongue are still rare to him.
“oh, uh, is that so?” haru looks from the girl to the machine and back again as he listens to her explanation with a curious expression. “if you don’t mind, could you show me how?” he lets out a weak laugh, embarrassment creeping onto his features as he rubs the back of his neck. thankfully, he remembers something else just then which makes masking his flushed cheeks a little easier. “oh but if you’re busy or were on your way somewhere, i don’t want to hold you back.”
( 咲空 ) – she can't help the trickle of guilt that seeps into her emotions when wren sees him jolt on the spot. she certainly didn't intend to produce such an exaggerated response from him. an apology dances on her lips, but the girl swallows it for now. (it happens, it's from a surprise, she wouldn't have been able to avoid it anyways. or so she tells herself to fizzle out the emotion.) wren offers him a gentle smile, the only thing she can give for now until he gives her permission to do more.
❝ i hope it'll be better in a bit then. ❞ wren responds, a light amused lilt in her voice. she doesn't fail to notice how he seems to brighten up. ( she wonders if he's like her, an english speaker stumbling around on foreign land.) it's not much, but the simple thought makes her feel a bond that tugs her towards the younger boy. it's probably also because he reminds her of her sister at that moment. (though that assumption can change with time.)
❝ no, don't worry about it. i'm taking a break myself so i can show you. it's an easy fix as long as you know what you're doing. ❞ she does her best to assure him. at that moment, wren takes a few steps forward so that she can effectively reach the vending machine. ❝ another trainee once told me. if you hit all the buttons at once, i guess it confuses the system and causes it to go again. ❞
she explains, using her fingers as an example. her hands are on the smaller end, wren takes a few seconds to prepare herself before pressing down with strength. at least the machine obeys her command, doing its duty of not making her seem so foolish. she leans down to grab the item and then stands up to hand it to him. ❝ here. but you have to promise you won't go cheating on the system unless needed. ❞
