it’s almost like he’s toppling around with the weight of the massive sized oreo weighing him down, and he struggles to see to his left and right because it’s so restricting. sehoon knows he looks like hilarious, but knowing that the rest of the team look the same makes him feel better. he can’t help but chuckle lowly at the sight of everyone dressed as human sized oreos, and when he glances at king, he chuckles even more. instructions said and the countdown beginning, sehoon dunks himself in the pool of milk, turning to look at king. “i have an idea,” he says, voice sheepish because being this out of his comfort zone makes him feel a weird sense of vulnerable, and he’s not use to it. “what if you jump on me to squeeze out the milk?”

king already knows he's a snack, he doesn't need to physically turn into one. even just a year ago, he would never have been able to sacrifice his image and get dressed as a giant oreo cookie without looking like he's on his way to be executed. he would have rejected this challenge with his entire being, holding on to his dignity. would that make the situation a bit funny? probably, but it wouldn't make for a very nice memory in the long run. holding himself back like that has never really paid off. it brought in a certain type of fan, but not those who stay for the right reasons. and it certainly didn't bring in friends in real life either.

he learned to have fun and allow himself to be a mess at times. he won't escape it as an idol. they'll be asked to do all sorts of stupid things. performing pretty girl was one of them, for king at least. and swimming in a pool of milk dressed as an oreo to then attempt to squeeze the liquid out is the newest entry. definitely not the least embarrassing thing he's ever done. it's pretty high up there, but the desire to steal yet another win is too tempting to really pay attention to the humiliating aspect of it. honestly, it's pretty damn funny to look at his teammates as they look at each other in slight disbelief.

sehoon is probably the funniest of them all, looking bulkier than ever in his white tights. it emphasizes their physical characteristics. sehoon all muscles, and king with his ridiculously long limbs. after the countdown, when they all start running and jumping into the milk, king has to remind himself this is all real. "shoot," king quickly responds when sehoon mentions having an idea. "jump on you and like.... squish you?" he asks to make sure he understood. while saying it out loud sounds pretty bad, king feels like it's an option worth considering. they help each other up and out of the pool, with king then letting sehoon take the lead and get on top of the grid. "on your stomach, ok? tell me when you're ready." they might have gotten a bit closer during filming, but he's not exactly at a stage where it would be comfortable jumping face to face with him.

━━━  ♚ FUTURE DREAMS S3 TMI VIDEO

it doesn't take king long to figure out his skincare routine concept. he's pushed this image a lot for him since his first appearances as a public trainee and up until now as a debuted idol. to counter his very expensive and fancy attires, he also wants to be seen as approachable and natural. for quick videos like these, meant to catch fans attention, king thinks it's the perfect opportunity. he opts for a very modest background with flattering lighting. he sports a freshly washed bare face, with various products on the table in front of him.

since he only has 30 seconds, the version seen by the fans will of course be accelerated, with brief intermissions during which he gives information about himself. it starts with king greeting the camera. step one: oil cleanser. "real name: tsai yijun." this sets the tone for his 10-step evening skincare routine that is sure to please the fans who keep asking about it. while he also has one for the morning, he knows beginners will most likely be looking for an end-of-day one, to remove makeup and apply masks. with one information about him given at every step, he'll fill his 30 seconds easily.

after rinsing his face, it's on to step two: water-based cleanser, which helps remove oil residue and other impurities. "half-thai, half-chinese." he cracks a smile, as the video accelerates once again. it's funny how little time there actually is. step three is exfoliating, which he does gently and washes off. "height: 185cm." while these are all information that his fans will know, it's meant to attract new ones also, so he can't neglect the basics. at step four, king applies his favorite toner. "blood type: B." during step five, he applies an essence to hydrate his skin. "if i had a superpower, it would be running super fast like the flash."

this leads them to step six, where he shows the ampoule he uses to help with dry skin. "a place i really wanna visit is dubai." step seven is similar, but it's a serum this time. the one he uses is for tightening pores, especially around and on his nose. "family: mom, dad, three older brothers." before he knows it it's already step eight, and he applies a sheet mask on his face. it makes him look funny, especially paired with his very cute and fluffy headband, but he doesn't care. nice skin requires sacrifice. genes can only do so much and reality will catch up to you sooner or later. "i like working out, extreme sports, basketball, food, fashion, shopping, dancing, music, animals, traveling." he shows the eye cream he uses for step nine, before applying it with the tip of his fingers. "the emoji i want fans to represent me with is the lion". for the tenth and last step, king applies a moisturizer, which is a must in every skincare routine. "a song i recommend is type zero's kick it!" he laughs at this one, and it wraps up the video beautifully too.

the title isn’t clickbait! i think anyone who’s seen king perform kick it last night would be wondering why the heck he hasn’t been put in a real group yet! he’s been hard carrying legacy boys for so long and became so popular and it feels like the company is just wasting it away. what are they waiting for? he’s serving talent and legendary visuals every time he graces the stage but why don’t we see him more? at first i was scared people would move on quickly but he’s managed to keep his tsai kingdom growing. when i look at him, i see the future… he shines like the brightest star in the galaxy and looks so passionate when he’s on stage. even when receiving two prestigious awards, he kept his composure like a real celebrity… some people are just born to succeed. even antis can’t deny his visuals and performance skills without sounding stupid and jealous. debut him already!

━━━  ♚ YEAR END SHOWS 2020 TYPE ZERO AWARD

of course he remembers the pride and joy when lgc boys won the best new boy group award. walking to the stage under a thunder of applause from their fans and the rest of the audience. he remembers every word from every speech made by the other guys too. although it felt like a dream, king had never felt so vividly aware of what's happening around him, taking mental pictures and videos of every second of it. he knows it's his first but not his last award. in fact, he couldn't be more certain. he came to korea to make something of himself and this is only the natural course of things. after working so hard for so long there's no way he's gonna play the humble card and pretend he doesn't deserve such a big honor. fuck no. he deserves every single bit of that award. instead of feeling emotional, he just feels happy.

the type zero award, however, comes as a total surprise. of course he knows they had a lot of impact this year despite their short promotion period and the fact that they're only a temporary unit (lols). but for those exact reasons he didn't think the fans would actually pull through with voting, and instead settle for a permanent group. apparently king underestimated their power and love for them. he shares a dumbfounded look with haneul, minjun and the rest as they slowly make their way to the stage for a second time.

it's not really that this one means more to king. but it provides a different type of reassurance that he did well this year. type zero is a much smaller unit, where his presence is undoudtedly more essential. not just his presence but the others', too. their contribution is a lot bigger in type zero than it is in lgc boys. that's why king feels like this award is so much more personal. he knows he won't cry on stage, but he feels weird this time, with a small pit forming in his stomach. and an even smaller wave of emotions flashing through his eyes as he looks at the cheering crowd. he doesn’t know why it hits him only now. this genuine and strong love from the fans. exactly what he sought by coming here to become a celebrity, while he claims he just needs the fame. once it passes, he's all smiles and confidence again.

"wow, thank you so much guys!" he begins, raising his fist in the air. "woo! what a ride, huh? it's been such a fun year, meeting you guys on tour and spending time with these guys too," he turns briefly to look at the other boys surrounding him. "we know how hard you worked in order to gift us with this award tonight, thank you for your support. we promise we'll work even harder in the future." he goes on for a little bit more after that, before passing on the mic to somebody else.

his eyebrow raises when the younger male turns to speak to him. the cameras weren’t on them and he didn’t have to fake being close with him like he had been forced to on numerous occasions. he decided to shut off the judgmental tone of his inside voice for the night, but the words uttered next had an edge to them, which had him visibly cringing. “you don’t?” he hadn’t meant to come across like he deemed his taste of music to be superior. he didn’t believe that at all, but he was surprised that king wasn’t aware of a trending song. 

“i only know the song because i tend to listen to new releases.” he states, releasing the tension from his fingers as he sits up straighter. why was king so tall? their height difference wasn’t significant, but his seat partner’s proportions made him seem like a giant beside him. “i actually think you would relate to the meaning behind the song.” he knew that people like king had their own inner struggles that he battled unnecessarily on his own. he didn’t expect for the younger male to open up to him since he was just as guarded as he was. 

“i would be happy to recommend songs to you…” he says without much thought. if he was certain about one thing was that their music styles were quite different, but he was willing to offer an olive branch. after all, a new year was approaching. “with the condition that you do the same.” 

"uh, no?" did he commit a crime not knowing that song? king usually tries to do the bare minimum and keep up with trends so he doesn't look like a complete failure if he's asked about a particular artist or song. or in his case, arrogant like so many pin him out to be. while they're not entirely wrong, he just prefers to listen to music that caters to his taste. a song being trendy or not shouldn't really matter when it comes to music. but they're idols, so they're forced into that narrative and like everyone else here, king wants to be famous and win awards.

"ah, yeah, to be honest i haven't listened to a lot of new stuff recently," king responds, trying to sound as detached as possible. "and don't we all?" he adds shortly after on the same tone. he would think anyone seeking to break into the entertainment industry has to deal with hate and judgement based on false impressions. he just likes to pretend it doesn't affect him, but it will always hurt less than the rejection he faced from those closest to him.

king is not sure he appreciates where the conversation is headed next. he's definitely not in a place where he'd feel alright sharing playlists with jude. which leads him to wonder why he isn't. it's basically an exchange of service, nothing more, nothing less. but he can't say jude's existence doesn't still bother him to an extent. jude the artist, jude the kind and understanding one, jude and his stupid face. according to fans, he's handsome and looks so much like leonardo dicaprio. king and his pettiness do not see a ressemblance at all. "ok, if you keep an open mind, that is." it's almost ironic for king to be saying this of all people. "what do you listen to? ballads? rock?"

₊ ˟   something doesn’t seem right.  king’s energy doesn’t seem to match hers, and while she knows that their energies are often different, allie was sure that he’d be thrilled to be recording the songs for future dreams this time if only because he’s been announced as a permanent, fixed member of an idol group.  that his hard work has paid off long overdue with the announcement of type zero  -  she was absolutely sure he would be happy.  something tells her not to ask, not because it would be overstepping her bounds but rather because king probably would lie or make an excuse even if she did.

so she doesn’t ask.  she just quells her spark and smiles at him quietly, tries to find an energy to match with his and hopes that whatever has him feeling down will remedy itself soon.  " it seems like it.  you seem tired.“ allie remarks finally, deciding it’s a safe enough comment.  ” let’s get you into the studio so that we can get you back to the dorms to rest.“

allie leads him to the recording room, settling herself at her chair and gesturing to the door that will lead him to the soundproof booth.  ” let’s start off with some vocal exercises, okay ..? it’ll get you warmed up so that your voice will flow easier.  let me know if i can get you some water or tea, okay?“

"do i? thought i covered my dark circles pretty well." he responds teasingly, brushing off fingers under his eyes. he's usually quite good at keeping a fresh and rested appearance despite very little sleep, but perhaps she didn't take the hint from his face. he does sound a bit less enthusiastic than usual, especially when it comes to work. that's always where he's excelled, fully in his element. king knows the excitement will come back. he might just deserve two good nights of uninterrupted sleep. funnily enough, it sounds a lot more unattainable than a fixed debut ever did.

"so you agree i'm talented enough to be finished with this quickly, right?" just because he's tired doesn't mean he won't mess around with her. he wouldn't be tsai king at all without a little bragging. and he thinks allie knows him well enough to take it, too. he follows her to the recording room obediently, ready to enter the soundproof section but stopping in his tracks when she offers a beverage. "sounds good to me. but i wouldn't say no to tea, actually." his throat doesn't feel sore right now, but recording two full songs, mixed with the exhaustion, might not do wonders for his vocal chords.

while she's gone, king doesn't sit down but rather roams around the room, observing the equipment while making sure not to touch anything by accident. he used to be much more curious as a young trainee and was scolded by staff for it once. he's since long asked any question that could possibly pop up about the recording process, and none of the rest particularly interests him yet. for now, he mostly just wants to stay fully awake and not sit down. thankfully, allie comes back quickly.

"thanks," he says when receiving the tea. "by the way... i don't mean to look like i'm above it all." he's not exactly worried she would judge him as a friend, but if they're gonna work together as professionals he'd rather not leave a bad impression. "i'm really excited about debuting. it's just, you know, the pressure crashing down i guess? feels like i haven't slept in months. but i'll work hard today like i always do."

You're stuck on an island and can only bring two other boys from Future Dreams to help you survive, who would you pick?

"hey, this vlive is about me and you want me to talk about someone else? tsk~" he chuckles, shaking his head. to be fair, he isn't exactly joking around. it's his vlive, his precious time, and he doesn't want to waste to much of it by giving exposure to other dudes. but of course, as the member of such a big unit and popular variety show, it's a given that fans want to learn about the different dynamics between the boys. who does he get along with? who will they ship him with? it's only a matter of time before it really starts. "if i were to be stuck on a deserted island, rather than who i think would be the most resourceful, i'd just want people i could get along with well. then i guess it would be easier to learn to survive as a team than if we fight constantly, right?" he got way too analytical about this for absolutely no reason. honestly, he can barely remember half of this season's participants. there's so many of them compared to before. so that leaves out a couple. "so, to make it short, jaesun and minjun. i trained the longest with jaesun and i think we can understand each other well. for minjun, we got closer recently and he's just someone that i respect and like a lot."

it’s rare for king to call her when he knows she has schedules. it’s actually almost alarming to have a missed call and voicemail from him. she knows it must be something urgent. she’s a little worried when she presses the button to hear the message. all her worries dissipate as soon as she hears his voice; he sounds too cheerful for something bad to have happened. she smiles softly at the tone of his voice. her puppy. and then… then her jaw drops. what a twist indeed. she fumbles with her phone as she urgently calls him back. as soon as he replies she lets out a loud: “KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH”. she’s never been this happy for somebody, not even herself. 

he’s so relieved to be able to answer his phone when miso calls back. on busy days, they usually just text, which isn’t the same as hearing each other’s voice. video calls are a long shot, too, with king living a much more supervised life than miso is right now. he doesn’t get a lot of freedom, and it will only worsen from now on. her excited voice makes it all worth it. he laughs. “control yourself, miss jung,” he teases, voice full of warmth. she never fails to make him smile. “can’t even explain how i feel, just... god, finally. i worked so fucking hard.” his smile won’t fade, and it hasn’t since the announcement either. “can’t wait to see you, baby.”

2020 was ending, and he had several realizations since then. He had survived Future Dreams, successfully completed a tour with the members, and got to perform at the annual music festivals. He had begun to find the adrenaline felt after a performance addictive, and he wasn’t willing to walk away from the path he had chosen for now. LGC Boys had yet to perform, but he was looking forward to performing two songs for their first festival appearance. 

He found himself seated next to King, wondering how that could have happened. Usually, they were like poles repelling away from one another. A pertinent realization that he had was that King was no longer insufferable. The younger man had matured somewhat, and he could stomach having to spend time with him. He didn’t see himself becoming friends with him any time soon, but their interactions weren’t as forced as they had been in the previous year.

Mamamoo’s performance began with Hwasa’s single Maria, which he bobbed his head to the tempo of the music. The shift of the choreography in the post-chorus had his eyebrow raising, completely unaware that the cameras had turned to catch their shared reaction.

sitting in the audience during awards show gets tricky after a while. king realized that soon after it began, with cameras shoved into his face more often than any human being would like, waiting to capture any reaction he might give. usually he would crave the attention, of course. it's different when his girlfriend is sitting right across from him, or when he can't show that he dislikes certain songs too much. it's supposed to be a fun, rewarding time for idols but as it turns out, they never get a real break from their job or their public image. it's not just the cameramen, too. the more dangerous ones are the fans, because unlike the professionals, their lens never leave king's face. they will make sure to get every single one of his reactions, then post it online for other fans to watch.

they know the drill. he makes sure not to look in miso's direction ever, mostly keeping his interactions limited to the boys sitting next to him. which brings to another issue. while his relationship with jude has certainly improved, since it started way below zero, there's still a very steep hill to climb until they reach a level of friendliness. king feels neutral towards the guy now. before, he would have been unable to hide his discomfort. now, they both seem fine sitting together. having toured for weeks might have helped in that regard. jude isn't as bad as king made him out to be. but to say he's ready to bond with him...

king, too, notices the camera aimed at them during hwasa's performance. it's not exactly a song he would have wanted to bop his head to, so instead of suddenly faking it for the camera, he plays it cool, as if he's watching with attention. after a couple seconds, the camera pans elsewhere, and king leans to jude. "you know that song?" it's small talk, but it's not like they have a choice in this context. they can't hold passionate discussions, nor would king want to have one with jude ahn. but the friendlier they seem and the more kim hyuncheol will stay off his back about his relationship with his coworkers.

₊ ˟   realizing that she’d be getting to work with king of all people today makes allie that much more excited.  considering king’s busy schedule and allie’s often not lining up with his, it’s been hard to get in touch with him but seeing him on her schedule did everything but put a smile on her face.  truthfully, she’s happy to see him and even more excited for what’s to come for him.  after all, he’s finally reaching his dream of debut  -  an actual debut, and getting to keep on the mantle of type zero to boot.  it’s a lot to congratulate him for.

by the time he arrives, allie is smiles and sunshine.  both her hands wave at him quickly before she holds them up to him and waits for high fives.  “ king ~” she croons happily, keeping a tight hold of his hands and waving them with hers.  “ i’m so happy for you! can you believe we get to work together today? it’s been so long since i’ve even gotten to see you -”

"thanks allie," king says, waiting until she's done waving their hands around to take back the ownership of his own. he's smiling, too, but for some reason he can't seem to be as excited as she is. it has nothing to do with her, of course. they've always been on good terms ( unless he ever offended her without being aware ), and working with somebody who knows him well is much better since he knows what to expect. plus she's been gaining a lot of experience as a junior producer, on top of being an excellent vocalist herself. she'll be able to give tips that other producers couldn't.

he's just... drained. as if for the past year king has been on constant edge, unable to allow himself enough care and rest. the pressure to debut weighed heavily on his shoulders. most of it coming from within himself. he's never doubted he could do it, not even for a second. but it doesn’t mean it wasn’t stressful. now that it's happening, he feels exhausted. "it does feel like it's been forever. so much happened, it's crazy actually." there's a lot of things unsaid behind this smile. things he would only ever tell when he's cuddling in bed with his girlfriend, at his most vulnerable state. all of the pain, the hardships, the fears. things he's never even admitted to himself. "so!" he claps his hands together. "waiting for your orders, boss. what are we starting with?"

king has done his homework. it's far from being his first professional recording by now, so he mostly knows what to expect, but producers all have their own style. the key's to be able to adapt and not come in unprepared.

━━━  ♚ CARIBBEAN BAY CONTRACT RENEWAL FREEZING ON THE SET

they have to be insane for this. does anyone even attend the outside portion of the park during the winter? it makes no sense for them to be running around half naked (which under any other circumstances he would gladly do) in the freezing cold. maybe lifeguards just don't deserve to be treated with human decency, nor celebrities for that matter. he knew he would need to do crazy stuff as an idol but this takes the cake so far. maybe much later on, once his career is settled and he can leave whatever group he's been in, king will move to california or something. anything to avoid putting his two feet in the snow. 

but hey, it's exposure for both his face and body so there will be time to complain by himself and to himself once he's back home wrapped in a warm blanket, drinking tea, wearing the fluffiest pair of socks he owns and would never otherwise wear in front of anyone. it's the thought that keeps him going. summer, the sun, hot beach sand... at least they heated the water, and have tons of staff on set ready to warm them up the second the director calls cut. the last thing anyone wants would be for their models to catch a cold... or so they say, but they're not the ones shirtless right now. 

the team has worked together once before so the chemistry is better this time around. they know what they're here for, what's expected of them. they have a good time despite the weather and king must admit they make quite the hot group of people. it's no wonder they were selected for this theme in particular. hopefully by the time they film another cf (if any), snow will have melted and spring will be on its way, but at the rate these renewals are going he doesn't expect as much.

━━━  ♚ SUBWAY CONTRACT RENEWAL LGC ACCESS INTERVIEW

"hey guys, it's tsai king! glad to welcome you to the set of my new subway commercial." he never expected to be the new face of subway in korea long enough for lgc access to conduct an interview about his experience with the brand. the thing about modeling as a rookie is that there aren't enough love calls from brands to really be able to select one he truly wants to work with. he needs to go with what he's offered and hope a better one comes along eventually. as he gains fame, king doesn't doubt it will happen. he made the cover of elle korea after all, did he not? sooner or later they'll be lining up to book him.

it's a shame that subway has managed to make him sick to the stomach at the slightest smell of their sandwiches. he's got a job to do, though, and of course he's going to do him right. if he were honest, he wouldn't give their food the best reviews but he's not in a position to do that. and probably never will, quite frankly. and he can't deny that he's privileged (although the opportunity was clearly deserved) to be working solo with this brand. there's no screentime to share with anyone and that's a great advantage.

"i feel like i owe subway a lot. they were the first brand to offer me a chance and thanks to them i gained a lot of professional modeling experience. the staff has been nothing but lovely and helpful." a little praise to the staff can never hurt, plus it's not even a lie. "there's a lot going on behind the scenes in order for everything to work smoothly on the day of filming. in a way, i'm just the lucky guy who arrives once the machine's already oiled and ready to be put to work. it's been a great learning experience."

he's asked about to share his thoughts about the brand. the part of the interview he knew would inevitably come, but dreaded to answer. he's become a good enough actor to do this right. "the first time i worked with them, i told them that before eating it for lunch on future dreams i had never tasted a subway sandwich. i didn't expect them to pick me to represent the brand, but i think their food is a perfect pick for a tasty and quick meal. we're practicing hard as trainees, and their sandwiches are sure to fill our stomach. they offer a wide variety of ingredients and options for anyone to enjoy them. if you're not into sandwiches they have wraps or salads. they also have vegan, gluten free and healthier options if you're on a special diet." the PR is going strong on this one, but he can't escape it. he needs to represent the brand he's selling, whether he's sick of it or not. honestly, he doesn't hate the sandwiches. he just needs a break.
