I pretended indifference even in the presence of love, in the presence of hunger. And the more deeply I felt the less able I was to respond.

What was my favorite part of the Nymphenburg Palace: The statue of Pan! This stunning statue sculpted in 1815 by Peter Simon out of Carrara marble is set in a stunning little cove which is elevated slightly. it’s an idyllic location for the resting satyr and his goat. The pair overlooks the spring which flows at their feet and forms a little bubbling brook that meanders through the woods. I love satyrs and collect them, so this find had me jumping for joy. Gives me ideas for my own woodland.
Sadly, the goat’s horns have fallen off or been vandalized as can be seen from this earlier picture in Wiki Commons from 2008, as well as the early lithograph.

Autumn is my season, dear. It is, after all, the season of the soul.
