Im feeling kinda weird about the internet, and I really enjoyed my break this weekend, so I might just extend it.

he was more or less out of his ELEMENT. especially when it came to space. but rogers wore a STOIC expression, hiding this fact. if anything, the CAPTAIN knew how to adapt in order to survive or win. so he LOOKED to his companion for guidance. "what's the play?" @galacticrelays

the weapon felt FOREIGN in his hand. which surprised him. a GUN was a gun, was it not? apparently space weapons were a DIFFERENT class compared to the weapons forged on earth. but steve was a quick learner. both with weapons and terrain. "so, i go low and you go HIGH?" steve asked quill. @startaxian

honestly, bucky is steve's go to person when he discovers something new about the world. a comedy club, a popular cuisine or fusion food, art museums. this being because bucky gets it. as in, the world is so different than when they grew up.

tony is another close friend steve shares his new found experiences with. but he doesn't talk about it broadly with the other avengers due to fear of being teased.

if bucky was being honest, he'd tell steve he didn't remember, and that they missed at least half of the troupe's second act. but that might pose the question why, what was he doing that would tear him away from the entertainment? and he wasn't ready to divulge the truth: that he and the other boy had snuck off to get handsy with each other over a six pack of german beer 'allocated' from a gutted bunker.

he presses his tongue into his cheek, and conjures up some vague lie to tell if steve asked, feeling a creeping hot guilt pool in his belly. ' it was--some amateur rendition of twelfth night. i never been a big shakespeare guy, y'know? don't remember much. ' liar. he remembered everything he watched, at least. bucky is quick to perk up, and cast those thoughts away. he claps steve on the shoulder, pressing his metal fingers into the base of his neck to coax his head down just a little for their height disparity, and makes him (or, tries to) walk with him. ' forget 'bout it. we weren't supposed to be there, so we thought you might tell us off. just dumb kid stuff. i'll have more fun with you now than i did with thomas back then, they had all this time to get better at it. '

there was a vague IMPRESSION of that night. steve remembered toro and bucky's ABSENCE but chalked it up to down time somewhere. the mess, the sparring ring, SOMETHING. not out on the town. he brushed the thoughts aside.

head ducked, level with his companion. the SMILE was easy to find a home on his face. "shakespeare was always a little boring. maybe they HAVE improved since then." sam had introduced steve to comedy clubs. that would BE SOMETHING. one of shakespeare's tragedies as a comedy.

"seeing a play didn't seem like dumb kid stuff," he gave bucky a pointed look. "getting drunk or bedding a WOMAN seemed the sort of actives men did when they snuck off based." shoulders shrugged as they ambled forward.

"okay, so tell me what YOU'RE in the mood for, food wise? did you know asian food has such a strong FOOTHOLD here? italian, too. wonder if they're any IRISH places around..."

' oh -- ' booted heels scuff the floor, a bit of boyish shuffling, a shock of nerves--like he did something wrong, even as he acquiesces and thumbs the flyer. ' we didn't tell you? ' bucky scans the printed graphic, smoothing it with a subtle flick of the wrist. ' thomas--toro and i snuck off to see somethin' like this, once. ' but that was a lifetime ago, and the talents have traded hands alongside the years. ' .. we can go, old man. ' he teases, as rough-edged as ever.

the building joy DEFLATED with a single world, emphasized with bucky's reaction. steve wasn't trying to go down MEMORY lane or forge new ones, just find activities and EXPERIANCES he and bucky could do together. after all, they, or at least steve, didn't really get the chance to do that. but APPARENTLY, bucky and one of the other INVADERS members had.

"oh," he says, mirroring bucky's reaction. "what did you see?" so maybe his hopes had been DASHED slightly. didn't mean he and bucky couldn't make a NIGHT of this. a new play, maybe find a new restaurant to eat at before hand....

fingers waved a pamphlet, flimsy paper WIGGLING between them. "there's this thing where a LOCAL troupe puts on a play in the park." steve handed over the flyer. "want to go? i've NEVER been to anything like that before." @zimwy

"we do it my way," steve said, trying to MAINTAIN control. not only because he was an EXCELLENT strategist, but when WORKING with someone he deemed the enemy....he wanted to AVOID casualties.
