It's been a while, so I'm a bit rusty. Help me bring Chris back?
Does death scare you
Your sister cares more about the cat than you. How do you feel about that?
“No she doesn’t, you idiot,” He replied harshly, refusing to see even the smallest of possibilities the claim might be true.
dinahannliddell:
“Nobody told me you were coming!” Dinah exclaimed. With Chris, there was so trace of her normally stumbling over words or hyper-correcting herself. Her brows furrowed. “I wonder why. I wish they had. Enough about me though,” She said, knowing Chris would be happy to oblige. “How are things back home? How’s Flamel?”
“Things are fine, I guess. There’s the science fair coming up and I still haven’t finished my robot, which is annoying. Some kid the other day, I think his name was Henry, gave me an idea and now I have to restart on half the mechanics. Good thing we have google, nowadays,” Rambling on about the science fair was the most normal thing he’d done in the past week or so, and to say it was comforting was an understatement. He really had missed his big sister, no matter how annoying she may be. “Flamel is dead, you read the book. He died happily with his wife so that Voldemort wouldn’t take over the wizarding world.”
Chris smirked at his own joke before faking realization, “Oh, you mean the cat. Flamel the cat is doing fine, even managed to bring a dead rat into my bedroom as a thoughtful present.”
Favorite food?
Hazelnuts. “The edible kind.”
Interrogation
nateorade-w:
Sitting on the side of the boy’s bed, Nate looked directly at Chris, hoping to kill delicate time as the clock ticked on. It hadn’t really hit him that he was so young, but even so, while he fought with what should’ve been obvious, he figured it was only a matter of time before Chris found out how young he was himself. “I’m not saying you have to take one,” he growled, eyes rolling in response to the younger boy who decided to berate him for offering anything up. Not that he had much of a say in the matter, Nate was a free man, while Chris was stuck hooked up to a bunch of garble that hung from various boxes across the wall.
Narrowing his eyes at the boy’s curiosity, Nate recalled how much he hated wonder. It had nothing to do with care, and if one were to wonder, they simply wanted information, nothing else. They didn’t care what kind of consequences the information brought, but only that they had it in the first place. “Curiosity killed the cat,” he spat, mildly frustrated by the younger boy’s vague sentence.
Per usual, he made himself at home, letting his legs hang off the side of the bed, laying back and allowing his head to rest near the younger boy’s upper thigh. There was one thing that Nate truly didn’t understand the boundaries of – personal bubbles. While he loathed his own being tampered with, no one else was allowed to have one if they were to interact with him. Despite how the exact opposite of that was how Athena –his mother – was, Nate didn’t want to admit how much he wasn’t like her.
“If you’re plotting against me, I’d suggest you think again about your choices. I’m a lot more sly than I come off.” Tilting his head back, he looked at the younger boy upside down, “What even is that?” Eventually, his own curiosity got the best of him and he supposed he might as well ask. Nate reached up behind him and tapped his fingertips on the gaming console in the boy’s lap.
“But satisfaction brought it back,” Chris replied to Nathaniel’s abridged berating of curiosity. He’d always found the statement horribly stupid considering without the curious minds of both the past and present, the human species wouldn’t have the technological and sociological advances they had today. Curiosity was a necessary risk, that brought it’s own rewards if you were willing to stick by it ‘till the end.
It seemed as though Nate had decided to make himself at home in the bed Chris had been assigned, resting his head near the young boys thigh and overall invading the little personal space he’d been allowed since being admitted to this hospital. He had never really made a huge deal over personal space until a few weeks ago when the tests and the hospital visits had started. He supposed there was a lot of truth to what people said about not realizing the value of something until you have it brutally ripped away from you.
Scooting over to maintain a comfortable distance from this stranger, or at least attempt to, he was rather surprised by the question about his Nintendo considering it had been a large part of the mainstream media just a few years ago. He knew it wasn’t the most recent, but it came as a shock someone only a bit older than him wouldn’t immediately recognize the console.
He supposed it wouldn’t hurt to help educate today’s youth about the wonders of video games and the various portable methods to play them. Plus, he always kind of enjoyed knowing more about things than everyone else in the room (even if there was only one other person currently in the room.) “This -” he started pointing to his silver console, “- is a Nintendo D.S. lite. They rose to popularity in like 2007 or 2008 and have hundreds of games designed or altered especially for it. It’s portable and revolutionary when it comes to the present and future video game markets, mostly because of it’s touch screen and compatibility with old Gameboy cartridges.”
It was as if the threat had been put out of his mind by the much more pleasing thought of video gaming as he opened back up the device, pressing a few buttons to get back to the game menu, he continued, “Before you so rudely interrupted I was about to beat my high score on the second castle in Super Mario Bro’s. If you don’t know what that is, I’m afraid you’re too far gone for even my expertise.”
allaboutmalcolm:
“So then, say I punched you, that wouldn’t be wrong?”
“From my perspective: probably. From the staff’s perspective: probably. But hey, if you found a way to justify it to yourself then not necessarily from your perspective.”
forgottenhenry:
“Most. You said most. What happens if you need to take it into an area without ramps. Will you carry it up the stairs? I understand what you’re saying but I think it’s better to be prepared.” Henry said. Maybe if he’d been prepared…for whatever happened, he wouldn’t be here now. “I’m Henry.”
“Okay, Henry, if you can figure out how to incorporate your design plan into the robot without re configuring the entire lower half, I’ll give it a shot, and cite you as a source for the science fair,” Chris replied simply, for once actually not bored or mildly annoyed. “I’m Chris by the way, Chris Liddell.”
forgottenhenry:
He took the paper, second guessing himself. Why had he thought he could help with this; he couldn’t even remember his last name. But as he studied the sketch a faint idea of what he was looking for came to him. “It’s the feet, here. Right now you’ve got one sort of conveyor belt for a foot, but if you divided it in too it’d allow the robot to be able to climb stairs and stuff while still be able to go over any surface, I think.”
“Okay, you have a point but that’ll make it unnecessarily complicated for a society in which most places are handicap accessible with ramps and all that stuff,” Chris replied, acknolwedging the fairly intelligent suggestion, the boy peaking his curiosity. He would consider applying it if it wasnt for the fact that he didn’t want to rework the entirety of the lower mechanics. “What’s you name?”
demixrivers:
“Enough about artificial constructs. You sound like my psychiatrist. Which is totally dull.” Demi’s eyes rolled to the back of her skull, as she thought back to the bearded man sat in his swivel chair; frail knuckles intertwined with one another, his beaded blue eyes piercing through her body as he belittled her and diagnosed her with some bag of bullshit. Once her viridescent pupils had returned to normality, she squinted towards the younger and cocked her head, realising that his face was unfamiliar. “Why haven’t I seen you here before?”
“If by ‘dull’ you mean both interesting and super correct, then I completely agree. I’m sure the world would appreciate it if you looked at society from the perspective of an outsider and really thought about right and wrong before you start talking,” Chris replied, his interest in sociology coming into play as he discussed the social constructs the random girl had decided to fall victim to. “Because I’m the ghost of forward thinking and am invisible most of the time, only appearing to talk about social construction with unsuspecting patients.” He rolled his eyes, knowing he was being a bit rude and ignoring that completely. He was confident in his opinions and felt that everyone should consider a new, more correct perspective, like his.
nateorade-w:
Now that there was time to take in his surroundings, the boy’s amber eyes focused on the other in the room, narrowing in on what he’d ran into. Some sort of box was in the boy’s hands that had a speaker of some sort because for a while there was music playing from it. While he wasn’t an idiot – entirely – he also wasn’t totally accustomed to the idea of technology. Some parents in the community welcomed it, some did not – unfortunately for Nate, his were the parents that refused it. He could see why, however, that this bedridden child would choose to do something technology based instead of reading or writing, but it also confused him. Nate did not, however, want to seem like a totally sheltered dumbass, so he avoided the topic entirely.
Being interrogated wasn’t exactly on the list of to-do’s, but he couldn’t complain. After all, the other boy had basically saved his ass from being thrown into god knows where, or being revoked of all privileges. Come to think on it, Nate hadn’t really quite figured out what the hell happened when he did get in trouble. Raising an eyebrow at the adolescent boy, “I didn’t attack you,” he clarified, making sure it was crystal that he hadn’t done anything that was even moderately close to threatening. “And if you were to force a guard into sexual contact with a minor, you’d be running too. I probably cost that prick his job.” Chuckling, he was amused by his own actions, letting the image of the guard catching himself roll on repeat every time he blinked. “—or I don’t know if you even know what that means,” the boy shrugged.
This pipsqueak didn’t stand a chance against him, and clearly he had enough wires and tubes, that if Nate started pulling, he’d probably be out like a light. However, he was very well aware of the eggshells he was stepping on, but all the same, he wanted to stomp on them. But for once – just once – he was going to keep his sadistic and crude thoughts to himself. “I owe you one,” the teen glanced down at the dark-haired boy in bed, tentative of what he was currently thinking about him. “Anything you want. And I don’t usually offer up favors.”
Not wanting to wait on a response, he just kept going. And while that was something he often did when he was nervous, Nate was still afraid of leaving the room, just in case the guard was around the corner. “I mean, if you do want to wait, I’m cool with that. I–,” he paused, glancing around the room at all of the gadgets and shit that lit up, “I might see you around? I’m Nathaniel, by the way. And if you know what’s right for you, you won’t forget the name.”
Furrowing his brow at the words “forced sexual contact with a minor,” Chris was ultimately not feeling very safe at the moment. He was also mildly offended the older boy thought him ignorant enough to not get the just of what he’d just claimed, but that was pushed to the back of his head in favor of his own personal safety. He’d decided he didn’t like the boy- Nathaniel - as he’d so forcefully introduced and he most certainly didn’t want any sort of favor he may be offering.
“I’m Chris and I don’t want your stupid favors,” he started, trying his absolute best to read Nathaniel’s face. Albeit, he was terrible with people and all the emotions that came along with them, the other’s nervous rambling was terribly obvious. “Although, I am curious to know what exactly you’re willing to do considering.”
A devious smile contorted his face at the thought of a possible experiment, well that and getting someone else to do things so he didn’t have to. He was a ten year old boy, after all, and ten year old boys are known for their lazy streaks.
Tapping his finger on the lid of his gaming console along with the mostly steady beeping of his heart on the monitor, he tried to think of something mundane yet tedious he could ask for.
dinahannliddell:
At first she was, certain she was seeing things, or that she had simply mistaken another patient for him. But the more she observed the boy on the other side of the cafeteria, the more certain she became. Her brother was here! However, her brief sense of joy was quickly overcome with anxiety. Why was he here? He couldn’t be visiting, could he? There was only one way to find out. She took her tray of food and sat across from, smiling apprehensively. “Chris! What are you doing here?”
@liddellchris
Chris sat in the cafeteria, head propped up on his arm, pushing the soggy peas around on his tray until they spelled out words. The too-bright industrial lights overhead gave off a buzzing sound that drowned out the murmuring of the cafeteria, setting a dull and lifeless mood for the evening meal.
He was startled by someone plopping themselves down in front of him, unsure who exactly it could be before a familiar voice rang out asking him about the origins of his stay. Looking up for the first time, his eyes went wide and a smile enveloped his face, one that crinkled his eyes and scrunched his nose. “D! I was wondering when I’d actually get to see you!”
He avoided answering her question for now, shoving some of the disgusting, horrific peas into his mouth.
“There is no inherent right or wrong in this world, those labels are just artificial constructs.”
doctorxseuss:
“What…. Are you doing down there?”
“Observing life from a new perspective...” Chris replied, rolling his eyes, hands crossed loosely over his abdomen. He’d decided to take up residence in the center of the floor. It was actually quite surprising it took people so long to come find him, “oh, wait no I have a better one. I’ve decided to go mouse hunting and this is the best way to spot them.”
Truthfully, he was bored out of his mind and when you have an ego the size of a small star, everyone has to know about it and feel your pain. He had decided to venture outside of his hospital issued room and away from the persistent beeping of the heart monitor. From what he could gather, he was absolutely fine enough to leave the room and so he did.
nateorade-w:
Notorious for intruding into places that he probably shouldn’t be, he couldn’t help but take pride in the honorable title. Wanderer by blood, Nate wasn’t one for wandering when his friends wanted to leave the community and be disowned by Robert – his uncle. It wasn’t his fault he had to nark, it was for the best. What did they expect him to do? Not that it mattered, all of them were now in Serenity, including David. Avoiding the asshole was becoming a pastime, regardless of how intriguing it may be for the rest of his ‘friends’ that had ordered David to kick his ass in the first place. Nate would not go down as someone that was weak. And although he already knew his reputation was dwindling with all of the fights he’d picked, he didn’t care what they were saying behind his back. Nate was still a Whitman, and therefore, the best Whitman.
While Serenity was a well-maintained building, Nate always found himself shivering in the halls. He’d begun to wear a hoodie around more often than not, and when he went through the connecting strips, he made sure to keep the hood up to create the illusion that he was either someone incredibly negligible, or someone extremely important. He knew the importance was obvious when the passerby noticed his face, but in a way, he did want to hide. Especially with David around. However – and not to his knowledge – he had a build that could be noticed from far away. Nate wasn’t short, but he wasn’t tall, he was fairly lanky and walked with a confident stride, despite the fact that he really had no self-confidence, but no one needed to know that.
In the specific moment, his hood was down, and when he decided to purposely shove the security guard into the nearest girl that was adjusting her bra, he couldn’t help but let out an insane amount of amused laughter, while the man stumbled into her, trying to catch his footing. “Fucking perv,” he giggled, watching the leering employee turn his gaze back to him, and then he knew he needed to run. Sprinting through the halls, Nate knew he was going to get busted one of these days for his little blips of adrenaline, but he never wanted to hold back. That ruined all of the fun. Thin legs stormed through the halls, hoping to lose the man in his tracks, but each corner he turned, he glanced to see the guy behind him.
When he finally turned a corner in which he found a copious amount of people in it, he busted through hearing, “Stop that boy!” roaring behind him. No one stopped him though, and when he threw open the nearest door, he approached the young boy in the bed, stumbling forward and shoving his hand over his mouth. “We’re brothers. Don’t scream. I’m your older brother if anyone asks. Just fucking comply because I’m not about to get busted because of your weasel ass.” Nate kept his hand over the younger boy’s mouth, not giving two shits about the consequences. He heard keys rush past the room’s door, and the security guard’s irritability roaring through the hall. Some profanities came with it, but those needn’t be repeated in the presence of two minors.
Once everything seemed to clear and the air settled, Nate removed his hand, huffing in air. “Holy fuck, that was exhilarating!” he smirked, looking down at the boy in the bed. “You look like hell, dude. Thanks for not flipping shit, though.”
Little pixelated Mario made it smoothly over another patch of lava unscathed, darting past and moving to the flag near the end of the small screen. Chris was bored, that was certain. He didn’t remember a time when he’d ever had more free time and less to do. He’d expected things to be a bit more interesting considering he was at a hospital(ish) and all, but no. Not even any dead people. He’d managed to be his highest score in Mario Brothers thrice over and the day still seemed to want to move like molasses uphill.
Sighing, he moved onto the next level, one of the castles, pressing play and yawning, thumbs moving quickly and elegantly over the keypads, flawlessly navigating the tiny Italian man through the surprisingly treacherous terrain. Suddenly, the door to his- no he refused to claim it- the room was thrown open and in flew a kid of around fifteen, his floppy hair mussed and wild.
“Wh-” he was cut off by a sweaty hand clamped over his mouth. Apparently, he’d gained a new brother, which was news to him. He’d also killed Mario in the process, something he was rather peeved about considering he worked hard to save up all those lives. Chris contemplated licking the kids hand to get him to let go...that was quickly discarded because he wasn’t keen on getting some other virus from a kids dirty hand. Waiting it out was the easiest option, and he liked easy.
Once he’d finally been released by his assailant, he shut his gaming system and folded his arms across his chest...he had a lot to say. Taking a breath he began, “First of all, what was that? You ran in here like a rabbit being chased by a fox only rabbits are fluffy and don’t attack people.”
Chris raised an eyebrow at the random inhabitant, expecting some kind of explanation. The kid had like three seconds before he buzzed a nurse - not because he was scared or anything - because he was a decent citizen who wanted to keep the inhabitants of SH as safe as possible.
forgottenhenry:
“Not to interrupter, but-but I think that would work better if you did it like this… can I see that for a second?”
Sitting cross-legged in the center of the room, Chris put the finishing touches on his sketch. He was designing a robot for the science fair and after days of laying in bed being completely and utterly bored, it was a breath of fresh air.
When some older boy approached him and claimed to be able to fix it, he was intrigued. After weeks of research, he was almost completely sure he’d done everything correctly and efficiently. Despite this, he always liked an opportunity to show off so he shrugged and pushed his paper over to his bespectacled companion and crossed his arms across his chest.
“Okay, go for it,” he said with a smirk.
