So, I was at this performance. My friends and I got there the night before with camping chairs and eye masks for an evening sleep-out to make sure we got standing-room tickets. (Luckily it wasn’t a super hot evening, and I lived a few blocks away so at some point I was able to go home and take a shower, and another friend got a hotel discount through work, so she got a place on the same block for us to nap in.)
The performance was magical, but it seemed like the entire cast was emotionally exhausted because Josh Gad had left that Wednesday matinee, which was the 2012 Fan Day. There were more tears on Wednesday than on Sunday. But as you can imagine, this particular number got a partial standing ovation. Although he did receive flowers, there was no curtain speech or any particularly public announcement beyond theatre news sites that this was Andrew’s last show, so I’m sure more than a few audience members were confused as to what was going on!
This particular Sunday, BTW, was the day of the 2012 Tonys. So, arguably, Nic Rouleau’s first performance as the full-time Elder Price was the Tony Awards opening number. ;)
