It’s consoling to think that, beneath all these distractions, we’ll discover our shining, authentic selves, or even achieve a state of “mindfulness.” But I doubt it. I’m starting to suspect that the joy of ditching all of our stuff is just as illusory as the joy of acquiring it all was. Less may be more, but it’s still not enough.

So, this is happening.
You’re not a better person for working out, or a worse person for not, no matter what magazines or gyms tell you.

The truth is, what you do today matters. What you do every day matters. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking one brownie won’t hurt your weight-loss goal or a day without social media engagement won’t affect your site traffic. Successful people do the small things that seem to make no difference in the act of doing them. And they make the choice to keep doing them over and over and over. Because one brownie today, one ice cream cone tomorrow, and one chocolate bar on Friday all add up to significant deviation from your nutritional plan at the end of the week. If I could get you to make one change, it would be this vital shift in perspective: Your little choices add up to big results.
Jeff Olson
Mmm society these days.
Women determined to change the conversation around body image tell us what they wish someone had told them a long time ago.
Hate the hoax. Love the response.

Maybe the reason that money doesn’t make us happy is that we’re always spending it on the wrong things, and in particular, that we’re always spending it on ourselves. If you think money can’t buy happiness, you’re not spending it right. The implication is not, you should buy this product instead of that product and that’s the way to make yourself happier. It is, in fact, that you should stop thinking about which product to buy for yourself and try giving some of it to other people instead. Think less about, ‘How can I spend money on myself?’ and more about, ‘If I’ve got five dollars or 15 dollars, what can I do to benefit other people?’ Because ultimately, when you do that, you’ll find that you’ll benefit yourself much more.
