So we’ve all seen posts about getting caught. “Oh they called my parents and now they’re super disappointed in me.” But you know what I haven’t seen much of? Stories of people who have gotten caught that are above the age of 18. And since I just turned 18, I’m terrified of getting caught since I go to the same mall that’s the only one near me. So what I’m asking you guys is if you or someone you know or your lifting partner or a stranger you’ve seen that’s obviously over 18 has ever been caught, can you share the story with me by submitting it to my ask? Anonymously would be preferred but I just want more info on how strict they are, if you can still cry yourself out of it, etc. And even if you don’t have any stories yourself, can you please reblog this so it will get coverage? I don’t know how successful this will be but I’d like to try. Thank you everyone!!

Not too different from an underage lifter getting caught iirc. Major differences are how you’re treated, how long the charge will be on your record, etc.. I wish I’d started lifting sooner tbh, I’ve never been caught but I’m also more cautious than a younger lifter would be generally.

I got caught at Dillard’s when I was 21 which was 6 years ago, I’ve only lifted a few times since. Basically, I had listen from there many times, I went and got what I wanted and as I was looking a SA came and asked if she could get a fitting room ready for me- red flag number one. I let her take my stuff to a room while I shopped some more and then went to the room. I took the tags off (bad idea as they had no rfid) and hid them in the room and I took an empty hanger and hung it up on the side so it was in the other room. As I was leaving I stopped to look at the chocolate and put one in my bag. This is when I saw a middle aged white man wearing black slacks with a black polo shirt and a walky-talky standing by the door. I knew he was LP and I knew I needed to drop everything and get out but I was too damn cocky and told myself they weren’t looking at me and I would be fine. I walked out and sure enough, “please come with me, ma'am” was the next thing I heard. I tried to run but he grabbed my arm and threatened me with jail time so I stopped fighting it. I got a ticket, no jail time and a shit ton of court fees and community service. Luckily, it was my first offense so I got a deferred sentence and it’s no longer on my record. This is why I’m so scared to lift and always paranoid that they are watching me. I still want all the free shit in the world, as a 27 year old woman trying to survive living in poverty, but I’m not willing to fuck my life up any worse than it already is so for now I will do nothing but small hauls, only 1 or 2 things at a time and only when it feels right. Stay safe and trust your instincts!!! That was my worst mistake!

@liftingbarbie not to be rude, but there are ways to get online if you’re poor. Libraries have free access to the internet. Or if you have a laptop (which most people have something, even if they’re poor) then coffee shops and a lot of food places have free wifi. I’m just barely making ends meet, and I still log on often. No need to be salty about it.

@liftingbarbie Just to clear this up.. my phone is an I phone 4 I got 5 years ago for $1 when I signed up for a new 2 year contract with my cell phone provider. My wifi is from my neighbor. We can’t afford it so he was nice enough to give us his password. We live in a fourplex built in 1975, it has two bedrooms, a whopping 700 sq ft and it costs us $1,600 every month. Also, my car is a 1988, one year older than me and my husband got laid off today for the 3rd time in 3 years, rent is due in 2 days and he hasn’t worked in 3 weeks since he just had surgery to repair a hernia and Christmas is less than a month away and I have a 3 year old who wants presents. I could go on but I think you get the idea. The internet is not hard to come by, at all. Good job on trying to call bullshit though 👍
