do you have designs for any of the human characters in the nine realms?
First time drawing these guys, actually 😅 But here's the riders!
When it comes to humans, I have been drawing them for a far shorter time than creatures like animals, so I'm far less experienced at it. That being said, there are things about the Nine Realms humans that need some updating for the AU, whenever I get around to designing/drawing them.
For the most part I want more interesting outfits for the adults, and as for the kids - my main problem comes from their models in the show. D'angelo looks like a shrunk down adult, Jun has purple eyes, things like that. On the whole though, things like hairstyles and colors are mostly fine as is imo. Still, I made a few changes clothing wise just based on what I thought would look nice.
Also these aren't finalized, I'd probably want to add more small details and accessories to the full outfits, but here's a concept (The tooth on D'angelo's necklace is a puma tooth from when he was staying with his vet grandpa. It was a tooth which had to be removed from an injured puma his grandpa trested, and D'angelo got it as a gift 👍 The crystal's on Jun's necklace are from the Hidden world, she found them pretty and they remind her of Wu and Wei)

A bunch of old edits from May 2023, this time technically not rewrite AU stuff (although they do exist in the AU because for my ocs it's the "canon" one), but two of my Nine Realms ocs! I actually have a bunch, but for now this is Illusia and Cerberus ✨️
Illusia is the closest to a canon-accurate Light fury oc that I have (my Httyd fury ocs tend to have less "species accurate" coloring, or are just fan species). She is a reclusive dragon with a mutation that causes her scales' reflective nature to be extra sensitive to heat, basically meaning they will start turning reflective even just from being in direct sunlight during the day, making her practically fade away during daytime. This was seen as an oddity in her pack, back home in the Hidden World (which yes, worldbuilding funfact, the Hidden World does get sunlight, though not by there literally being a secondary sun in the underground cavern's "sky" /j /lh) so she never was that social, or confident. Still, when the ceiling opened to create a door to a new world above the one she'd always known, she wasted no chance going to explore the one above where stars shined and clouds wandered.
Cerberus, meanwhile, is a young Red Death (an adult, but not as old and experienced as say, the Red Death from Httyd, so he is considerably smaller, "small" being a relative term /lh) The young death was building a flock of his own in the Hidden World, but an older, more experienced death stole it and his territory, thus the youngster was forced to flee, now residing in an ancient, undiscovered entrance to the Hidden World, located beneath a fjord in modern day Norway. In this way, he is almost like a "guardian" for this undiscovered gateway to the world beneath him, by pure accident.
The two dragons also happen to be friends! Although Cerberus is a death and gathering a flock is his nature, he is also quite laid back by character and enjoys the company that the Light fury sometimes brings when she visits.
Thank you, I'm glad people seemed to enjoy it, my hc Jörmungandr is one of my favourite creations so I hope to be able to make more art for him in the future! As well as my Nine Realms ideas in general ✨️

This is bordering genuine loser territory, ITS BEEN FIVE YEARS GET NEW MATERIAL ALREADY </3
Mfs will see a show that no one is forcing them to watch, isn't problematic in any way, shape or form and decide it's the worst evil walking on this Earth and should be shat on diarrhea style even half a decade after it's release.
Not to mention Nine Realms can easily combat other series ESPECIALLY rtte on stuff like visual effects, character development (because shocker, it actually doesn't just treat the main dragon character as an accessory to the human and gives him growth) but you wouldn't know that because you prefer to watch a diehard httyd fan spit on the show for several hours straight and call it quality content instead of forming your own opinion first.
'oh but the dragon designs-' budget. time. PANDEMIC. For what little tnr was given it's genuinely a good show, especially for children, which, shocker, are the target audience. It has flaws but it also has so much potential, leaving room for people to expand upon and imo that's the best thing about it. That and the extended lore we get for the hidden world because golly was it lacking in the franchise before the show.
The idea hit me and I had to~
I wanted to remake Jörmungandr into something that looked truly like a dragon that could and would take down the Hidden World itself. I wanted it more fierce-looking, bigger, and with a mean bite~
Foreverhorn- didn’t really change anything, exaggerated spikes a bit.
Flyhopper- more visible patterns, made “wings” bigger
Golden dragon- added more gold, instead of just laying golden eggs , it can now sniff out gold ore, which it eats.
Hideous Heatwing- added dark patterns, thicker scales, bigger wings, and bigger/more spikes
Mimicore- still largely mute and communicates with wings and body language (its roar is to quiet for any dragon to hear) poor flyer fast runner , more exaggerated wing “fingers” and more fins.
Puffertail- no longer becomes a ball when it puffs up, gronkle-esqe body type.

the hidden world is, essentially, a cave the size of eurasia, a continental cavern basically.
odd alien tech and chemicals are why some parts of the landscape seem to... defy gravity.
It has nine major biomes, "kingdoms" as the dragon club calls them, each with many sub-biomes within them.
The Hidden World is, also, split into four sublayers.

The Reef Kingdom - Asgard
The Reef Kingdom is essentially the stuff we see in THW, with many coral reefs outside of water due to the sheer moisture in this part of the hidden world, it's also very warm and generally very hospitable to the majority of dragons. Quite peculiarly, the Reef Kingdom has the fewest spaces of "false sky", false skies in the hidden world are essentially where a sheet of gass or crystals on the cave ceiling appear as though they are a sky on the hidden world's cavernous ceiling
The Reef Kingdom's ocean is connected to that of the Crystal Kingdom's.
The Reef Kingdom is also the largest of the realm's closest to the surface.

The Nature Kingdom - Midgard
The Nature Kingdom is full of flora and life, both familiar and celestial, as much of the hidden world's plant-life... is from beyond our star. there is also very much plant life originating from the mesozoic era.
This realm's false sky is created thanks to a vast sheet of luminous bluish-greenish gas, the seeming "planetoids" in the sky seen on occasion are simply odd crystal formations on the cavern ceiling, tricks of the light, or gas formations.

The Crystal Kingdom - Alfheim
The Crystal Kingdom, like it's name would suggest, is full of luminous crystals. It is the even hotter sister of the Reef Kingdom.
half the realm is caverns and canyons up to the false-star-speckled skies, and the rest is crystalline islands scattered about the underground oceans.
Also quite peculiarly, placed on the kingdom's boundary with the ice kingdom, is a sort of "mirror maze" of tall salt crystals.
it is also home to the highest concentration of dracolite in the Hidden World, Dracolite is the reason it is even LIVEABLE as an area. Three varieties of Dracolite are fairly common, Blue Dracolite is what creates "skies" underground, Green Dracolite is oxygenating when exposed to dragon flame, and Red Dracolite is a narcotic of sorts, it causes rapid moodswings in mammalians but is like caffeine to dragons.

The Ice Kingdom is a desolate, primordial landscape, it has very few places filled with life, aside from the Iceshroom Groves, Eruptodon Mountain, and Mt. Yin-Yang. The Ice Kingdom is, also, peculiarly, the most similar to the distant moon that dragonkind originates.
The kingdom is also filled with many strange ruins of metal jutting out of the snow....
The Spirefields, impossibly naturally made torches, dot many areas throughout the Ice Kingdom.

The Fire Kingdom - Muspelheim
the hellscape, the horrors, the volcanic pain. that is what this realm is. it is INHOSPITABLE to anything that doesn't live there.
In the very few places that have plant life in this realm, it is thick and healthy from the nutrients in volcanic ash, and well adapted to tolerate the heat.
Many of the dragons here are tough and hardy and have very high heat tolerances. Some examples of inhabitants:

The dreariest of all nine realms, the Dark Kingdom is humid, hot, and hard to see in.... it, is, quite peculiarly, sealed off with Deathsong Amber at the mountain boundary between it and the Fire Kingdom.... perhaps it is to keep the S̸̡̧̺̰̦̱̺̱͖̖͖̻͆͒̏̍̔̄͋̌͋̒̕͝ù̴̢̺̭̠̜͍̤͕̤͕͕͍͋̋͝ͅͅņ̷̨̬̦̺̤̹̪͖͎͚̘̗̟̺̾ę̷̆̈̈́̽̉͋̒̂̇̄̍͗͜͝ả̸̮̝̙̳̱̥͓̮͈̼̖̣̍̋̈́́̒̂̈́̚͜͝͝t̷̞͚͍̯͗͛̂͂̈́̄̈̓̏́̆̕̚ͅë̵̢̡̛̬̖̝̗̝̘͙̼͐̿̽̌̉͝͝͠ȑ̵̹͙̳̯̟̿̍́̾̈́̚ sleeping inside from escaping?
the realm's plantlife is very rare, you're more likely to come across the plant-fungus-thing that has "fruits" of sorts that look like glowing eyes, they're edible.... to dragons.
All of said dragons living here are either lovers of the dark and whimsical or can kill you easily in a million different ways.

The Desert Kingdom - Vanaheim
The deepest of all nine kingdoms, the desert kingdom is a lovely place to be... as long as you don't disturb the Monarchic Deathsongs, peculiar deathsongs that resemble monarch butterflies in coloration that always reside on a pillar made of amber for some reason, it'll be a nice time... if you keep to the oases that is.
It is where the mother of titans, the empress of dragons, Í̵͔͚͍̮̖͖̞̌̓̍̃̏͊́ͅm̵̜͎̙̼̱̩͎͐̇̏́́͛̕p̷̛͙̘̫̰̗͖̆̃̇͌͑̍̃̕͘͝e̸̡̢̛͙̦͍̓̍͂r̵̥̙͕̗͓̥͔̖̰͓̦͉̜̦̋͑̄į̵̤̟̤̙̯̤̞̗͒͐̃̈́͐̇͆̈́̕͜͜͜͠͠ͅó̶̺̺͕̹̬̲̤̦̯̲́̅̓̏͑͊̚ͅs̴̞̄͑ų̷̲̭̫̭̟̞̉̉̾̐̋̄́̿̈́̄͂̎̆̓͂s̷̡̯̭̗͉̠̝͖̍̈̈̃̃̄̈̊̀̓̐̆̅̋͘ rests in her slumber after being nearly slain by a dark-scaled invader bringing in sicknesses from the surface.... but where could she be lying?
