Toilet time.

Mall tip: I don’t like messing around too much with packaging in stores: not only does it mean that I’m in there for longer than I have to be, it also increases the chances of getting seen by someone. So ninety nine times out of one hundred, the packaging comes out of the store with me (with RFIDs removed, obviously). I realise, though, that packaging can be bulky and take up more room than you’d like, especially if you only have one bag with you. And nothing screams “Hey, look, a shoplifter!” than boxed up, brand new items visible in your hand bag. So what do I do? I get my butt into the rest rooms, making sure I get into a cubicle with a sanitary disposal unit in it. (This allows me to make a bit of noise in there, too: it’s kind of acceptable and normal to shuffle through your handbag and unzip things and rustle with plastic when you’re digging out a pad or a tampon or whatever.) What am I doing in there? Taking things out of the packaging, and hiding them at the bottom of my hand bag or in pockets (for small instructional manuals, and carded earrings, I put them in my wallet). It’s also prime time to triple-check anything for RFID tags– if you HAVE beeped anywhere, go into the Ladies’ before you step into another store.  And where does the packaging or RFID tags end up? In the sanitary bin. If you’ve managed to do all this without looking suss at all, odds are good that once you chuck the packaging in there, it’s gone forever, because those bins are removed by private contractors who clean them out elsewhere and replace them. And no one is going to want to go poking through a bin full of used sanitary products and hell knows what else just in case there might have been a shoplifter who used it to dispose of tags and packaging.  It’s also a good time to change clothes or wear some of your haul or whathaveyou, too.  (Apologies to those of you who use the mens’ room; I don’t know if disposing of things in there is feasible. Though I’ve heard stories of people flushing/trying to flush tags and it ending VERY badly, though.)

Anyone know any other good staple lifting media? Like, everyone know Bling Ring is The movie to watch, but anything else? Shows, specific episodes of shows? More movies? Maybe even suggest some documentaries or something I guess? Thank thank

hmm I liked the movie Catch Me If You Can with Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s not about lifting but basically his character commits various white collar crimes and gets away with it (which is the fun part) and honestly the first time I watched it it just gave me more motivation to lift which is probably not what the filmmakers were intending haha but anyways. I think there’s some other movie about art theft which I haven’t seen but maybe you might like that? Oh I just remembered something, there’s this one episode of the show Law and Order Criminal Intent (funny that I like the Law and Order shows but am a criminal myself, ironic a bit isn’t it?) where a minor plot point is that one of the characters has kleptomania; the episode is titled The Good Child so if you’re into crime procedurals give that a look. Also there’s this nonfiction book that I really want to read but haven’t been able to find in a bookstore so I can’t lift it, but it’s about lifting and it’s called The Steal, it looks like it’d be pretty interesting. I think there are some documentaries on youtube, just search and you’ll find them although I think they’re mostly from the perspective of stores/LP. That’s all that I can think of right now but those are some suggestions.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I’ll definitely be checking those out, and I do actually like law and order too, I was hoping there would be an episode of a show like that suggested! And I’ll be keeping an eye out for that book for sure!

wow I’m glad you liked my suggestions! That’s all that I know of but there might be some other stuff out there. Honestly I’m kinda surprised there isn’t more, like there’s shows like Breaking Bad and Hannibal which are about people who do illegal things (making meth and cannibalizing people respectively) and it’s a big part of their character but I’m not aware of anything like that where there’s a main character who’s really into lifting/theft.

It’s really an untapped character type, cause i’d be aaallllll about a lifting/thieving character tbhhh. You’re so right about having other characters where illegal stuff is a major part of their character, like there’s really an influx of characters like that for a lot of other crimes, it’s a bit disappointing :/ I’m hoping some other people might know some other suggestions!

Seriously LOVING the pamphlet method! My wlagreens has a basket of coupon advertisement pamphlets in the beauty section it’s such a gift. Tbh I didn’t even conceal the pamphlets bs there’s no reason to. I got 4 face masks and a lip balm using this just now.

Basically you get a pamphlet that they usually have In Most stores have them either on a new line of products or a store credit cards. This can also work with magazine! So basically you just walk around with the pamphlet open like you’re reading it and pick up the item you want (better for thinner items) and put it on the pamphlet and just close it! You don’t even have to conceal it but it won’t look strange if you just pop it in your bag!

LMAO HERE WE GO… So, I did the cup trick, I bought a Starbucks drink,(smthg really cheap but big, it was a vanilla thingie w no coffee lol) and I pretty much dumped it all out in the bathroom, (wasteful, I know, but it was very hot and I didn’t have a lot of time) and I brought an exacto blade w me and cut an X into the bottom! ok so alottttt of you ask how I do my “scarf trick” and it’s so hard to explain unless I actually show you.. so here we are

straight forward af, first

tuck the scarf under your arm your holding your bag so it completely covers your bag

select two of the same item (not as obviously as I did in the video clearly)

put them both behind your phone, pass one to your hand sort of through your scarf and slide it in your bag

pretend to read the other item decide you “don’t want it” and put it back which is literally all that looks like on camera and they can’t see you conceal behind the scarf I think it’s pretty fool proof I don’t go lifting without wearing one!

quick post to spread some info! i haven’t seen any posts on here with a complete breakdown of all types of security cameras you may encounter… well, this isn’t it either, but there are a couple that you should be able to recognize if you dont want to get caught. many stores use these covert cameras- i frequently see the speaker and motion sensor cams. please be careful everyone!!!

Friendly Reminder

If you are going to upload personal photos/haul photos/anything like that, make sure to remove the exif data from your photos! there are a lot of butthurt people out there who are threatening to give out personal information about certain people in the community and that’s some scary shhh, exif data a lot of times includes your location at the time the photo was taken and it is very easily accessed by anyone who looks for it!

so please if you post hauls or photos of yourself, always remove your exif data from your photos first before uploading and keep yourself in the clear!

Verexif is a website that is very simple to use and you dont need to download anything and it takes like 10 seconds to wipe all information from your photos.

How I haven't gotten caught since age 8:

•Assume every customer is LP or a snitch •Assume every device on the ceiling or walls is a camera that is being watched •Assume every employee is watching you •Assume every communication between employees (walkie-talkies, store announcements, code bla blabla, etc) is about YOU •Assume high-dollar items will be accounted for •Assume high-dollar stores are absolutely going to catch you •Assume all camera footage of you will be on the news (helps with disguising) •Assume towers work. •If no towers are visible, assume there are hidden ones •Assume any tag can set off the towers and be prepared to keep walking like you own the shit in your bag •Know that no matter how skilled or careful you are, you can be caught by any means and it can be *today* •Assume that if you weren’t caught this time, they’re ready for your ass next time. Take breaks, seriously

Seeing a lot of the community go down lately. Felt it was worth reminding us all (myself included, I get carried away A LOT) that we are criminals and we are all taking a huge risk, no matter our reasons.
