So even the best of us get caught. I was literally caught this morning at CVS. My go to store. I had stolen about $200 worth of stuff. Didn’t realize the store manager was there. It was the usual lady that’s normally working when I go in. I put the items in my bag and had turned my back to the camera in my usual blind spot. I go to the register to pay for a drink because I don’t just lift at this CVS, I do shop there. And as I’m done checking out a guy walks up to the front and I realize his tag says store manager. They said that they needed to search my purse. I knew that I have been caught at that point. Like I just knew. I’m older and where I live this would have been enough for me to definitely go to jail. And I’m not going back to jail. And everyone knows that CVS marks their products up like a thousand percent. They gave me the option of paying for the items or getting arrested (read what I did right). Basically I got cut a big break by the manager. But the entire time that I was there the cashier at the front was mouthing off at me about why I think I deserve expensive hair products and can’t pay for them Etc. Luckily I have a close group of friends who are family and they managed to wire me the money so that I could pay them. I got incredibly lucky with this because most places would have straight up called the cops in my town. The point of this post is to warn you that anyone can get caught. Even someone who did a huge haul yesterday. This is all about luck. And yes, I know that I didn’t have to allow them to search my handbag. And I didn’t let them search my handbag, I just simply reached in and gave them back the products and opened my bag so that they could see there was nothing else in there that was theirs very quickly. No one stuck their hand in my purse. Also in my state, the act of concealment is enough for arrest alone. Now I’m going to tell you what I did wrong.
1. I parked close to the store so that there was no way if I ran they wouldn’t get my plate number
2. I got greedy and stole very very expensive hair care products that I normally would not touch because they are monitored heavily.
3. I purchased something instead of just leaving. If I had just walked out the door after concealing chances are I could have peeled out fast enough.
4. I didn’t pay attention to the cashiers name tag. Had I noticed the guys name tag said store manager then I would have not lifted. Because I know that they are the only ones who can pull up the cameras.
Now, here’s what I actually did right:
1. I cooperated fully. I was respectful even when the cashier was insulting me until the manager told the cashier to stop. At first they were going to immediately call the police. But whenever I was polite, and all but begged they gave me the option to pay for the items. And they even gave me a later time to pay for the items since I did not have the money. If I’ve been rude or try to run at that point then my plate number would have been taken down and chances are I could actually be in jail right now because a cop would have come arrested me. In the area that I live in we have a very large police force. Maybe now you guys can understand when I say it’s best to cooperate instead of talking about pepper spraying or doing any of that silly shit.
2. I came back and paid for the items. They had scanned my ID and taken my plate number. My state doesn’t do civil demands. They seriously just call the cops and you go to jail.
3. I’m going to repeat this again for the folks in the back. I complied and was nice. I was apologetic. I said exactly what they wanted to hear.
Learn from my mistake. I got greedy. And my number one rule and the thing I preach is to not get greedy. I got overconfident. I also frequented this location too much. But in some cases I was actually frequent legitimately because they sell certain things that I can’t find anywhere else in my town. Pay attention when you’re there. And to anyone who reblogs this and said that they would have run, there was no possible way for me to run with the way everything was set up in the store layout. Now you understand why I say go down with dignity. I could be sitting in a jail cell right now. Learn from my mistakes. Also, continue to loot the absolute shit out of cvs. They overprice their stuff to a point that it’s ridiculous. And honestly I don’t know why the cashier who was lecturing me so bad cared because the last time I was there the other day she was complaining about how bad she hated her job. But the entire time that she was sitting there and insulting me, I kept my mouth shut and the manager stepped in and told her to stop.
Take this to Heart kids. This is a game of cat and mouse. No matter how skilled you are you will get caught. We all get caught at some point. I learned a lot from this experience.
