I have a college love story for you. I randomly sat next to this girl in my business sales class, which was a class I wasn’t even supposed to be in- a class that I actually despised but they wouldn’t let me drop it. And she randomly asked me for notes one day and we gradually started complaining about our professor together and making fun of his outfits and then one day I asked her to be in my group for a project. So eventually I considered this girl, Laura, to be a friend- the only one I’ve ever made in a college classroom- and then one night I was at a party in the apartment complex she lived in so I texted her to come by and she did. And I introduced her to my friend, Tim, who I had lived next door to the year before and had also invited to that same party. And let me tell you about an instant spark- the rest was history for them. They moved to Boston together after graduation and now it’s 5 years later and they’re getting married. So the point of this story is maybe you haven’t had your one little moment of fate that brought you to the love of your life, but maybe you were someone else’s one little moment of fate that brought them to theirs.

What made you choose this muse?

Before roleplaying Shikamaru, I’d been a part of the roleplay community for a long time, fourteen years to be exact (though I took breaks from it here and there). Not on Tumblr, but in other sites. I think something I always found, was that Shikamaru is a character not a lot of people can grasp fully. People always focused on certain traits and left out other main ones, and so I wanted to take on that challenge and learn to portray him well.I think Shikamaru is a character people simplify a lot and focus on his laziness, lack of motivation, and sarcastic persona.Though a lot of those can be fun to play around with his character, I like exploring the depth of his character a little more than that. I really love the character growth that we see throughout the series in Shikamaru. How he goes on from being one of the laziest and most unmotivated characters, to becoming someone who embraces why responsibility is so important in such an insightful way, becoming one of the most important leaders in the village.Something that I look forward to as I continue to play Shikamaru and write his character in fan fictions, is exploring this character growth, because some of the important life lessons that play a key role in the depths of who he is, are lessons that have been just as life changing in my own life. I think that a lot of the time people feel a need to go off canon to explore a character further, which there is nothing wrong with that and in fact I really love some of the work that I see people put into off-character canons. Actually, another reason that I ended up starting to develop my take on Shikamaru was because I really admire a friend who has a really captivating off-canon take on him. But for me, I feel like there’s so much we can explore in just a canon character if we start picking at the right places. There’s a lot of things to find, learn, and create about them.Some things I really enjoy exploring in Shikamaru: his wisdom, insight, the change in his mentality about concepts as he gets older, his realization of stepping up to use the talents/skills only he can supply his village and friends with and how that pushes him forth to becoming a more responsible individual, his observant nature. I could go on and on but those are a few key things I’m looking forward to developing in my take of him.

What do you hate about your muse?

I dislike how cynical he can seem to be at times, having a negative attitude toward a lot of things, especially Pre-Shippuden. I normally prefer to play the version of Shikamaru that is closer to post-Shippuden/Boruto timeline. I relate to that Shikamaru more because to be honest, I’m naturally a person with a more positive outlook to life majority of the time and that’s something that older Shikamaru tends to have more of, while it’s actually harder for me to get into the head of younger Shikamaru because of that major difference in us. Though it challenges me and I enjoy it. It’s only been recently that I’ve been exploring that version of Shikamaru more.

What makes you the most emotional about your muse?

What makes you the most emotional about your muse?

I’d have to say the unwanted lessons he’s had to grasp and the heartbreaking situations he’s had to face to learn some of them, such as his loss of his Sensei and the loss of his father.I think I might have said this in an answer to another question, but one thing I really relate to is his realization that he can’t just stay a kid forever, no matter how much he desires to. Because if I’m honest, I’m a lot like that. I’m almost afraid of people depending on me, and tend to try to run away from it at times. It’s a burden that I’d rather not have. But the past few years a lot has happened in my life where I know I have learned a lot of lessons that I should be willing to share with others. Relating to this, I’ve also had to learn to persevere a lot when I used to be someone who would always give up easily and run away from anything I started. It’s been a recent lesson in my life in just the last two years to not run away from things. I guess to tell you a little more about it, I started a program a few years back and to finish it, I had to make the decision to travel to the other side of the world basically in order to complete the program I’m working on. The summer before I had to travel was one of the most difficult times of my life and I really just wanted to give up and stop pursuing it. But that was the first time in my life when I actually decided I would no longer give up. That I couldn’t just keep running away from everything I started, no matter if it was starting to feel like a total drag. Now, I’m only a few months away from wrapping up that program and though it has really been troublesome at times, it’s also taught me a lot of new lessons and strengthened me as a person in a lot of new ways. That being said, since I can relate to this aspect of the character in a really deep level, I think it’s something that makes me very emotional when it comes to him. It’s also something I like to use as a tool to tap into the character.

Hey guys. Hope you’ve all had a great weekend. Sorry I haven’t been around much, life is just a little complicated sometimes. First of all, I’d like to thank you all for your support. I’m really close to hitting 200 followers in just a few weeks so I’m really glad you guys have been enjoying my work. I still have a lot to learn in different areas regarding things like learning to portray my muse as best as I can, improve my writing, etc. But seeing that you are all liking what I’ve been doing so far is really encouraging, so thanks for that.

That being said, I have made the decision that since there’s a few different things I like to do, I’m gonna start dividing them up into different side blogs.
