Rosemary and Sissix from “The long way to a small angry planet”
Sissix and Rosemary, again from Becky Chambers The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. I finished the second one last week as well, which has another cast of excellent characters. I love how cozy and lived in these books feel, while still being really thoughtful on challenging your persepctive- it’s not something I’d come to expect from science fiction.
Anyways. working away on other projects, but fan art is an all to tempting anxiety break :)
Name of Media: The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet By: Becky Chambers
Type: Book
Genre: Sci-Fi,
Synopsis:
Somewhere within our crowded sky, a crew of wormhole builders hops from planet to planet, on their way to the job of a lifetime. To the galaxy at large, humanity is a minor species, and one patched-up construction vessel is a mere speck on the starchart. This is an everyday sort of ship, just trying to get from here to there. But all voyages leave their mark, and even the most ordinary of people have stories worth telling. A young Martian woman, hoping the vastness of space will put some distance between herself and the life she‘s left behind. An alien pilot, navigating life without her own kind. A pacifist captain, awaiting the return of a loved one at war. Set against a backdrop of curious cultures and distant worlds, this episodic tale weaves together the adventures of nine eclectic characters, each on a journey of their own. [Via Good Reads]

Type: Book
Genre: Fantasy
Synopsis: Queen Shulamit never expected to inherit the throne of the tropical land of Perach so young. At twenty, grief-stricken and fatherless, she's also coping with being the only lesbian she knows after her sweetheart ran off for an unknown reason. Not to mention, she's the victim of severe digestive problems that everybody thinks she's faking. When she meets Rivka, an athletic and assertive warrior from the north who wears a mask and pretends to be a man, she finds the source of strength she needs so desperately. Unfortunately for her, Rivka is straight, but that's okay -- Shulamit needs a surrogate big sister just as much as she needs a girlfriend. Especially if the warrior's willing to take her around the kingdom on the back of her dragon in search of other women who might be open to same-sex romance. The real world outside the palace is full of adventure, however, and the search for a royal girlfriend quickly turns into a rescue mission when they discover a temple full of women turned to stone by an evil sorcerer.
Potential TW’s: Rape threat, kidnapping, the sex, fear of being a predatory lesbian, homophobia [depicted in verbal harassment towards the end]

The Wicked + the Divine (comic) by Kieron Gillen. (Has lesbian, bi and pan women, bi female lead, also gay, asexual, and trans characters.) It’s an exciting fantasy story with lots of action. Sometimes very violent and bloody, some sex scenes. The 8th Doctor Adventures (Doctor Who comics) from the 1990s, main companion (Izzy Sinclair) is a lesbian and kisses some girls. And of course series 10 of modern day Doctor Who also has a black lesbian companion (Bill) who flirts with and dates women, and jokes about being a lesbian and is portrayed positively. The comic Rat Queens by Kurtis J. Wiebe also has a lesbian character, who’s in a relationship, in the group of main characters. It’s a humorous fantasy adventure inspired by D&D. The Sandman (Neil Gaiman) rotates between perspectives of dozens of characters, but two that recur are Hazel and Foxglove, a lesbian couple. Hazel’s ex gets murdered though and it’s pretty bloody. There’s also a positively portrayed trans woman character. It’s dark fantasy and there is a rape scene (not in their story though) and lots of violence. The new Legend of Korra comic “Turf Wars” focuses on the relationship between Korra and Asami, two bisexual women, and they meet and learn about other gay/bi characters. The brand new sci-fi comic Motor Crush, has a lesbian lead who is on and off with her girlfriend and they are portrayed together on lots of cute covers. One is a motorcycle racer and one is a mechanic. It’s the future and so far, there is no homophobia, and the story focuses on science fiction and action elements.
Thank you so much for the suggestions! We will add them to our list and get them out asap! - Mod Cee
Hello dear people of tumblr! Today I am happy to announce the opening of Light Lesbian Media.
Light Lesbian Media is dedicated to finding and cataloging every piece of media with a lesbian in it. Every. Single. Lesbian. to allow for easier findings for the rest of us. The two mods (Ciarra and Anna) have spent many months trying to find media that represents us, without many results. We realized that if we’re mourning the lack of access to proper cataloging tools, others must be too. We decided to make this search easier for all lesbians and sapphics by starting up our own cataloging blog (or, catablogging).
This blog is not spoiler free. We hope that all lesbian characters/media that lesbians show up in will one day wind up on this blog and unfortunately, that means we will most likely be coming across a lot of Bury Your Gay. We warn for such, as well as warning if characters do not receive a happy ending or if there was a relationship centerfold; if they wind up together.
We will begin showcasing media in the ‘morrow. Until then, please take a look at our about, guidelines and maybe even suggest media you would like us to check out!
