I wish there was a way to know youâre in the good old days, before youâve actually left them.
I would rather have someone blow up my phone with messages because they care about me than constantly be left empty handed and unsure about how someone really feels about me
suicidal people deserve a space to talk about their suicidal feelings without risking hospitalization/institutionalization or being accused of being manipulative or attention seeking
Itâs a therapist. The word youâre looking for is a therapist.
wrong
The second a therapist thinks youâre even slightly suicidal (ie. Whenever you even say the word suicide) they âpink slipâ you, which means you get sent to a mental hospital against your will.
I think about suicide almost every day, but it doesnât always mean Iâm gonna go kill myself.
I just want to say, as someone who has taken courses in ethics and regulations regarding psychology and therapy and has worked at a counseling center for more than five years, THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE CASE. The only time a therapist or other healthcare provider is required to report suicidal or homicidal ideation is if there is a specific plan. I am deeply sorry to anyone who has ever experienced a therapist who acted otherwise. To the person above, I am not sure what your experience has been, but I promise you it is not a typical one, at least not in the area where I live (California). I have never heard of a âpink slipâ, and Iâve worked with therapists for 5+ years. Â
Going to a therapist changed my life. I was able to open up and say âI think about suicide almost every dayâ, and for the first time in my life someone said âYou donât have to live like this.â She didnât have me hospitalized, she didnât raise any alarms. She gently asked me if I had a specific plan, and when I said no, she said âWe are going to help you get better.âÂ
YOUR THERAPIST ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT HAVE YOU HOSPITALIZED AT THE MERE MENTION OF SUICIDAL IDEATION.Â
If you say, âIâm going to kill myself tonight by overdose,â then yes, they are required by law to have you hospitalized. Otherwise it is THEIR JOB to help you process your feelings and find a way to help you function and feel better.Â
I cannot be more emphatic about this. Therapists, by and large, are here to help, not to hospitalize. If you have health insurance, contact them today to find out about your mental health coverage. Go to your general care doctor and tell them how youâre feeling so that they can refer you to the right person. If you donât have health insurance, find a resource for a free/reduced fee clinic near you. Marriage and Family Therapist Interns are a great option, as they often see clients on a sliding fee scale. PLEASE GET HELP.
LISTEN TO ME: YOU CANNOT LEGALLY BE HOSPITALIZED AGAINST YOUR WILL FOR SUICIDAL IDEATION. FEAR OF HOSPITALIZATION SHOULD NOT STOP YOU FROM SEEKING HELP.Â
I understand that many people have hospital related trauma, and I understand, and sympathize. Talk to me. Send me a message. I will be happy to find you further information on laws and regulations in your area, referrals to other counseling centers, or even just listen to what you have to say.Â
I couldnât in good conscience scroll past this without saying something. As someone who struggled with depression for much longer than I should have because of fear of seeking treatment, I want to encourage everyone, experiencing any degree of mental illness to get help. I will do anything I can to support those of you going through something like this. Iâm here for you.Â
I literally talk to my therapist about suicidal ideation all the time and all sheâs ever done is have me clarify that I wasnât planning on acting on it. Iâm tired of tumblr discouraging people from trusting mental health professionals.
I just wanna do really cute shit with a really cute person
Nothing is sexier than someone who wants you as much as you want them.

not to be all in your business butâŠ..i hope youâre having a good day đą
as a mentally ill, if you havenât taken your shower youâre not gonna wanna do anything else. do that first. this sounds like baby advice but fuckinâ do that first

You are worth it :))
I love you.
Last night the guy Iâm dating and I lay entangled in the dark of his room and we reminisced on the very short amount of time that weâve been seeing each other. We talked about this or that, the conversation meandering lazily, taking twists and turns and detours.
âHow do you feel about saying âI love you?ââ he said at one point, which is one of the more careful ways of broaching the subject.
âI feel good about it,â I said.
This wasnât enough reassurance that it was safe to say it, because he asked me about my general thoughts about love.
So I told him that I believe meaning is created between a speaker and the other person in the conversationâthat when my father looks at my mother, who he has been married to for 27 years, and says âI love youâ he might say the exact words but there is no way that âloveâ could ever mean the same thing as when I say it to anyone else. When my father says âI love youâ the word âloveâ contains within it the birth of three children and a journey to a new country where neither of them spoke the language and had only each other to rely on, and it contains every fight and the purchase of their first car when they were poor and young and had an infant and every time they lay in the dark together. How could the word âloveâ somehow mean the same thing when he says it to my mother as anyone elseâs use of the word?
So, I told him, I believe that if I care about you, if Iâm invested in your happiness, if I value the time we spend together, then thatâs love. âI love you" will not mean the same thing when I say it on Tuesday as it will on Saturday, will not mean the same thing after two months as it will after a year, even if the order of the words never changes.
After a moment of quiet, he whispered âI love youâ against my skin.
âIf Iâm invested in your happinessâ - Iâve read a lot about love, and thatâs kinda blowing my mind right now in its brevity and accuracy.
