Multi-muse RP blog for Disney Fairies characters. "They were like living diamonds. Yes, they had faults, but they were perfectly themselves." (Navigation + Tink sold separately)
She looked away, but he didn’t. Clever, calculating golden eyes like those of a snake, narrowed but wholly observant. He was always watching, as though constantly gauging his chances of staging a coup or something else along those same lines. He was a question, in a puzzle, inside a mystery, and all wrapped up in an enigma. His intentions for anything were never clear and outright, as perhaps those of others would be. No. He played things very close to his heart, and never let slip the details of whatever game he might be playing.
He had been keeping diligent watch over the game, but.. he knew how keen his own hearing was, and he could react faster than a snake could strike. So that was why he kept his attention on her now. And.. in a blink, he was gone. His whereabouts in a silent shift, before he deftly and soundlessly landed behind Gem, casually observing her and the stick with which she’d been apparently digging with.
“Anything you find of interest?”
Almost before she had time to wonder about the mysterious scout she’d met eyes with, she realized he’d left his position as suddenly as if he had disappeared into thin air. Gem frowned. She re-surveyed the field and all it’s moving players as if to catch sight of the sparrow man again, but then shook her head and forced herself to look down. There was no reason for her to be interested in the whereabouts of a scout unless she was in immediate danger from some kind of threat—then it would be useful to care.
And again, as soon as she had time to think it, she was confronted by a voice speaking just behind her, and she almost startled. Instead of jumping, she stiffened, only her insides giving her the feeling like she was falling. He was talking to her, wasn't he? Well, who else could he be—everyone else was up in the air, enjoying the game. Gemma shrugged, looking down at her hole in the ground, answered in one word, “Rocks,” and scooped up a handful of examples of the compacted sediment.
“They have no value,” she added, as if wary that he might have taken interest only because he had some kind of notion that a mining fairy could stick her hand in the ground and magically pull out rubies or nuggets of gold.
Being so used to exploring mines and caverns, Gemma wasn’t a big sunshine and outdoors fairy. Mining talents were unusual that way: most fairies in the kingdom might thrive spending the day flying in an open meadow under the bright clear sky, but she and her fellow talent members would feel more comfortable in the dark, and closer to the ground. Perhaps that was why she sat out the game of fairy tag going on in the meadow; perhaps it was because she didn’t enjoy those kind of things anyway...Or maybe it was just because there was no way a mining fairy could really participate in that game in particular—with her small wings, she’d hardly be able to flee or tag anyone, and how could their talent be used unless she threw rocks at the other players?
It didn’t matter, anyway. Mining fairies were used to being left out and they didn’t mind it that way. Gem sat in the shade and watched the game, detached but not wholly disinterested. With a twig she absently excavated an area of dirt beside her, of course finding nothing of interest. Her eyes, bright like gems set in her brown skin, suddenly met those of a scout not far away as he held watch over the game. She looked away, but her glance soon flickered back. Harrow; everyone knew who he was, even if they didn’t know who he was...
A twitch of annoyance shuddered through Willow’s body. He didn’t need to ask what the other sparrowman was after. He’d been through this song and dance far too many times to have any doubts. Taking a moment to gently nudge the tulip bulbs back in line, he didn’t bother to make further eye contact right away until.. Well. Several willow vines from the nearby tree had stretched down to his reach, and he turned on his heel, his long braid swinging around his waist and then back again.
“I’m male just like you, you know.” His words punctuated by a brief snap of the willow vines, not to cause any harm, just to make a point. “And I’m not interested.” His eyes flicked up and down Elijah, and he continued to frown. Honestly, he was getting tired of other sparrowmen flirting with him just because he had long hair and a feminine body type. He was just as male as they were! Not to mention, a particular incident he’d rather avoid thinking about certainly didn’t make it any easier to deal with.
“Just give me the dust, please. I have work to do.”
The reaction his comment received wasn’t exactly what Eli had expected--in his experience most people enjoyed a simple compliment even if they weren’t interested, but the other sparrow man seemed more than a little defensive as he replied. Even the plants around him seemed to lash out with his agitation. The dust talent leaned back a little, giving some space; he like to flirt with fairies he found attractive or interesting, but he was also not the kind to be offended or pushy when rejected.
“You got it,” he answered, holding the pixie dust bag out for Willow to take. “I’m not here to get in your way! But...I never said I thought you weren’t male.” With a slight shrug and a wink, Elijah turned on his heel and jogged a few steps away before taking to flight.
Oh? A challenge, was it? Well, he couldn’t exactly create anything or change water into snow like she could, but.. He gave a silent, almost wheezing chuckle, before he put his fingers to his mouth and gave a loud whistle. Almost immediately, a young fox kit came bounding through the trees, as Strix easily caught hold and swung himself onto the animal’s back, guiding her in a tight circle before leading her to sit at the river bank as he climbed atop her head, and gave a bow.
It was always a pleasant experience to spend time with others, especially the younger ones. And.. Well, actually, he probably could cross the border now if he wanted to. It was cold, sure, but he didn’t exactly have wings to worry about anymore. Deft movements of his hands, and a suggestion was given.
‘Shall I join you?’
Watching with eager curiosity for what he would do, Lumi was delighted by the show of the fox, well-behaved under the animal talent’s care and direction. Arms raised in the air, she flicked her hands back and forth at the wrist in applause, the smile on her face only stretching even wider.
As he made an offer to join her on the other side of the stream, she nodded an encouragement before signing back to let him know, “The weather is perfect over here.” Of course, she laughed at her own joke.
The Autumn Forest wasn’t too crowded this morning--just a group of fairies painting leaves, or practicing filtering light through the branches just so. Maybe a fast-flyer zipping by once in a while. All focused on their own tasks, on their talent business. And Page, she was focused on them. Perhaps her steady observation of the scene was how she managed to notice another face, one less familiar than those of her neighbors and friends.
A somebody else who was watching the activity just as she was. Before really even thinking about it, she was already flown from her perch and coming up to hover beside the sparrow man. “Fairy-watching?” she prompted casually.
“I have a delivery for Willow.” Eli juggled the pouch of pixie dust between his hands as he waited for the garden talent to finish up whatever task that was in the middle of being completed before turning to accept a daily allotment. And when he finally did meet the other fairy’s eyes, he froze and took a moment to catch his breath.
It was obvious from the other’s appearance that they would have an effect on most anyone who looked at them--so what were his chances? Either way, he almost couldn’t help himself, the words spilling from his lips as easily as if he were commenting on the state of the weather. “Wow. You’re gorgeous.”
“He’d lived on his own for an entire season--each day and night a constant fight for survival against the dangers of the forest beyond the safe borders of the kingdom, where no scout would be able to defend him from any threat. He fought off all of fairy-kind’s top predators single-handed, from venomous snakes to hungry hawks...
“Now, tried and scarred from his time in the wild, he faced the biggest challenge of all. A decision that would change the course of his life.” Sage paused for dramatic effect, then continued her narration, “Blueberry waffles, or acorn flower pancakes?”
“Aspen,” Crystal called as soon as she spotted the animal talent with his ever-present companion Lune. She carried a bag of sweets that were fresh from the shop across the border, and had shared them with each of her friends she’d come across so far. She and Aspen weren’t friends, exactly, but she saw the way the other fairies in Winter tended to look at him--though most didn’t outright comment on some of his unconventional quirks--and she always made an effort to be friendly and include him.
“What is your favorite sweet?” she asked, happy that she’d selected such a variety of choices, already eager to surprise him with an unexpected treat.
The first time Hazel had treated the garden fairy known for being a “tossaway,” she hadn’t actually known of his reputation at all. It was a basic principle of nursing fairies not to listen to any gossip; they had to examine each fairy with an open mind so as not to treat them with any preconceived notions of their possible ailments.
In fact, it was through Oleander’s frequent visits to the infirmary, each time due to another life-threatening situation he had (by his admission) submitted himself to, that clued her in. He didn’t seem to make it a secret either, but Hazel wasn’t there to judge.
She came to his bedside with a freshly-brewed elixir to soothe the physical pains of his most recent dangerous activity. Was his indifference between life and death something a healing talent could fix? She didn’t know, but she could talk to him, and keep him company until he could officially be discharged.
The winter fairy sat on the bank of Havendish Stream, where Winter met the border of Autumn. She dipped her hand into the water and flicked a spray into the air, which fluttered back down in a flurry of snowflakes. The ones that landed on her face and shoulders didn’t melt, standing out like white freckles on her brown skin.
She grinned at the animal-talent sparrow man sitting across the water with a sparkle of challenge in her eyes, as if daring him to show off what he had in return. Though he'd lived so much longer than her, Lumi always felt that he genuinely enjoyed spending time with the newer fairies--even from across the border.
I have some fairy OCs and I wrote short snippets about each of them to keep track of who they are as I better develop them!
Misty: Water talent. Long, blonde hair and blue eyes, pale skin. She loves fashion and fancy flying, she’s always very helpful whenever something is asked of her, and is generally sweet. She’s also dating her best friend and fellow water talent Cera.
Skater: Water talent. Dark brown hair and skin, dark green eyes. Skater is really high-energy for a water fairy—he’s very into sports and will try to help non-water talent fairies try out pond-skating out with lily pad skimmers. He very much has a sense of humor and can get along with any kind of fairy
Sienna: Animal talent. Strawberry blonde hair in 2 long bubble braid pigtails, tan skin and green eyes. Sienna is a quiet animal fairy with a surprising dry wit. She prefers spending time with wise old animals rather than the babies or dangerous cases. Dating Topaz.
Colin: Animal talent. Black hair that’s always messy, blue-green eyes, tan freckled skin. He’s very much a people-person for being an animal talent. He loves critters of all kinds, especially reptiles, but he’s also just as concerned with fellows of his own species, offering translation services to be inclusive to non-animal talents in conversation with his buddies.
Topaz: Light talent. Medium brown skin and eyes, dark brown hair with bangs, up in a bun. She’s super outgoing and talkative, really friendly with any fairy, and a little bit dramatic. She also adores gem-hunting and anything sparkly really. Dating Sienna.
Rory: Light talent. Pale skin, medium length dark red hair, dark blue eyes. Rory was actually given the name Aurora when he arrived, but he transitioned to sparrow man and changed it to Rory instead. He’s a bit sarcastic, but chill and friendly for the most part. He’s not super desirous of being the center of attention, being pretty humble.
Kelly: Tinker talent. Light brown skin and eyes, red hair with bangs in two braids. She’s the sweetest tinker fairy aroud—always ready with cookies and tea whenever somebody drops off or picks up a repair. She’s also a pet-lover and feeds stray bugs. Also likes reading and has a crush on Scribble.
Zen: Tinker talent. Light blonde hair, light tan skin, silver-blue eyes. Zen has a lot of patience for a tinker. He doesn’t stress out when things don’t work right, and he takes his time on projects to ensure the best outcome. He’s always polite and thoughtful to others as well, while his sister Zyla has her heart in the right place but can be quite brash.
Camellia: Garden talent. Light tan skin, curly black hair and dark brown eyes. She’s quite shy, and it takes her a while to become comfortable with others to speak much in front of them, but she has a secret love for singing. She sings to her plants when she thinks no one can hear. Dating story-teller Rune.
Linden: Garden talent. Blue-black hair, tan skin, dark brown eyes. Linden is a very handsome sparrow man, and he knows it—he’s not cocky or vain, but he is aware of himself. He’s very content within his talent, but he’s a little lonely and concerned that others aren’t really friends with him for his personality itself. He wants to expand his hobbies and become a more interesting person so he knows that there are reasons for people to like him beyond the exterior.
Kyra: Scout talent. Brown, shoulder-length hair, dark brown eyes, tan skin. Kyra lost half of her left arm after fending off a wasp, having to have an amputation at the elbow. She doesn’t regret the loss of limb because if she hadn’t stepped in and done her job, somebody else might have died. Duty to the kingdom coming before anything else, she hasn’t really taken any time for romance in her life and her best friends are fellow scouts. But among the group they have their fun and mess around sometimes, and she does have quite a soft heart and gentle attitude compared to some scouts.
Marianne: Dust talent. Short black hair, pale skin, golden-brown eyes. Marianne is a very ordinary dust talent. She loves dust-keeping more than anything, has the twinkle in her eyes for a good joke, is hard-working and non-confrontational. She also loves studying pixie dust among other topics.
Julienne: Baking talent. Medium-length blonde hair, often with braids, blue-green eyes, light tan skin. A very passive kind of baking fairy—she easily takes orders and is somewhat of a doormat, but though she says she doesn’t mind, she’s working on it. She mostly just wants to mind her own business and bake nice things, she’s neither outgoing nor unfriendly.
Nora: Art talent. Medium brown skin, dark violet hair, lavender eyes. Nora’s artistic talent expresses itself best when she makes small pieces. Rather than murals or large pottery projects, she loves making the kind of beautiful little decorative knick-knacks that sit on fairy’s bedroom shelves or charms that are carried around. She sculpts, carves, crafts and paints them in as much detail as she can and gives them away freely, always making more than she can store in her workshop. She’s somewhat socially awkward, but doesn’t really seem to notice the fact.
Hazel: Nursing/Healing talent. Light tan skin, medium brown hair in bun twintails, dark brown eyes. Hazel is the most relaxed nurse there is—when she’s not potion-mixing she’s usually the one sitting for a quiet chat with patients and making them feel calm rather than harping on how they need to take care of their injury. She’s easy going.
Piper: Messenger talent. Short red hair, dark brown eyes, tan skin. Only really serious when it comes to official announcements, Piper is quite friendly. Being a messenger-talent fairy, she gets to see a lot of different people in a day, and pretty much knows everyone in Pixie Hollow. It’s a good thing she’s not a gossiper.
Zyla: Fast-flying talent. White hair in a bob with side bangs, tan skin, hazel eyes. Zyla is a fast-flyer of the people. She’s not selfish about her talent just performing for the sake of it, but tries to help others. She can be kind of blunt as well as impatient, but is never trying to be rude. Her brother is Zen.
Sage: Story-telling talent. Long black hair, light brown skin, dark brown eyes. Sage doesn’t just tell stories on stage or around a campfire with a large crowd—she’s an every-day kind of story lover. A slice-of-life narrator who may amuse or annoy fellow fairies when she tells descriptive stories of seemingly ordinary events in their friends’ lives, or embellishing whatever they’re currently doing with speculation on what they could be thinking or what’s about to happen. She makes stories happen.
Gemma: Mining talent. Short brown hair, light brown skin, blue-green eyes. Like most mining talents, Gemma and her brother are quite monotone and gruff compared to other fairies, rather spending time underground than at fairy dances. Gem does have a little bit of a romantic heart despite not being very girly.
Jet: Mining talent. Short brown hair, light brown skin, dark brown eyes. Jet, similar to his sister and talent mates, is not the most talkative and outgoing sparrow man, but he’s a fiercely loyal friend and also has a sense of humor hiding under his rough exterior.
Allegra: Music talent. Sandy blonde hair, misty silver-blue eyes, pale skin. Allegra is blind, having Arrived that way, but she’s never been bothered by it. Her talent is music, so to her, she “sees” through sound and that’s all she really needs. She’s somewhat reserved in personality, not revealing too much about her thoughts or feelings, but she’s never been shy or had stage-fright. She’s willing to fill any silence with music.
Snowdrop: Winter garden talent. White hair in ponytail, pale skin, grey eyes. She’s not the bravest fairy out there, and not very interested in exploring outside of her comfort zone. She’s perfectly happy tending to the plants in Winter Woods and hanging out with the couple of friends she already knows. Snowdrop is very kind, and she will speak up when she’s uncomfortable.
Wren: Winter animal talent. Medium-length curly white hair, tan skin, medium brown eyes. Wren is not super talkative or playful, unlike most animal-talent fairies. She’s not shy, she’s just really interested. She’ll interact if necessary, but she’d rather be with her animals or enjoying some alone time.
Crystal: Frost talent. White hair in bob style with bangs, medium brown skin, blue eyes. Crystal is a typical frost fairy, artistic and bubbly—but she’s also not a push-over. She’s not afraid to speak up for herself and go her own way if necessary, and has the most leadership skills amongst her friends.
Lumi: Snowflake talent. White hair in up-do, dark brown eyes, tan skin. Lumi is Deaf, having arrived that way, and uses fairy sign language to communicate. She has a very simple and funny personality, and likes to be included in conversations. She has a little bit of an adventurous streak as well.
“Darlin’, I know you’re not about to bring that ferret anywhere near my flowers.” Her words were said with such a gentle grace, that the threat behind them was only amplified by her honeyed tone.
“Hey, I’m not complaining.” He smirked, shrugging. “But it wouldn’t hurt if something interesting would actually happen today.” A quick visual scan of the sky? No hawks. A quick auditory scan of their surroundings? The only buzzing was from the bees, so no wasps.
“You wouldn’t know if any of your friends might be planning some rule-breaking, would you?”
“Any of my friends--like Tinker Bell?” Sil giggled, the possibility that he could be implying anyone other than the little tinker who never knew when to quit never passing through her mind.
“I don’t know,” she added thoughtfully, “but if I did, I don’t think I would be supposed to tell you about it.”
