About blog:
Mod is @tiredrandomwhyme
No NSFW asks. Spindle is aroace and minor, and quite frankly mod is both of those as well. DNI.
No Diasomnia member ships. By that I mean ships like Silver x Malleus, Silver x Sebek, ETC.. If you ship other canon characters with them or your oc, that’s fine! (Sorry if this one is a bit nitpicky)
No romantic interactions. Spindle is aroace.
No problematic ships. (Not problematic like “Noooo they hate each other!” Problematic as in “That’s a teacher and his student” or “Those are siblings” or anything else like that.
Just started Book 7 but TBH I already have a lot of spoilers, so just give a quick warning if your ask has Book 7 spoilers.

Unique Magic:
Wheel of Fate - “You cannot run from what you fear. It’s as inevitable as the end - Wheel of Fate.”
Wheel of Fate allows him to take the monsters of his opponent(s) nightmares and bring them to life. He can only pull one monster from one person at a time so far.
———————————————————————————————————
Personality:
Spindle is calm and collected. He’s easily (mildly) irritated, sure, but he never allows his irritation to cloud his vision and judgement. Even in situations where stakes are high, he never lets his emotions get the better of him. He’s truthful but blunt. Not overly rude (unless the person he was talking to was really asking for it), but he’s not afraid to snap someone back to reality. His personality type is ISTJ, if you couldn’t already tell. While he’s not overly rude to people to their face, you can bet he is thinking and/or whispering insults in his head/under his breath. If he’s whispering the insults under his breath and you hear him, he will flat out deny it.
Most people have a hard time getting close to him. Spindle deliberately keeps people at arms length. He likes it that way, for the most part. Less people to worry about, less hurt he feels when he loses them. It’s easier to go about life that way. Which is why he’s always annoyed when Deuce and Ace pull him into whatever first year shenanigans is going on. Spindle has the tendency to see the worst in people first before he sees the good in them. This causes him to look down on others. Someone would have to get close to him first before he realizes their not that bad, but since he keeps them all at arms length, it’s an endless cycle.
If you manage to get through his walls, however, you’ll find…
…that he is almost exactly the same personality wise. Although he mostly stays the same, there are a few changes. Even if he has a hard time showing it, he’s fiercely loyal to and protective of those he cares about. He insult those he cares about openly, but the insults in question are more like playful jabs. He’ll be a bit more open with people he cares about and give them advice that isn’t backhanded (his way of showing affection).

Backstory:
During the climax/towards the end of the Human VS. Fae War, there was a powerful fae. She lived in a tower in Briar Valley, just far enough to avoid the war and any conflict. However, she was lonely. So, thanks to magic, she created a child. The child was named Spindle. The fae raised Spindle with love, but also made one thing very clear: humans were dangerous. From a young age, Spindle learned how to defend himself with daggers and magic. She never let Spindle wander further than the clearing in the forest where the tower was. Despite the warnings, Spindle was a curious child - like all children are - and he couldn’t help but wonder what was beyond where he was allowed to explore. After years of begging his mother, she agreed to take him on a stroll through the forest. On the walk, Spindle had skipped ahead of his mother, taking everything in. But while Spindle stayed ahead, his mother had heard something - people. Not just people, angry humans coming for fae blood. The fae ran to her child and told him to run before pushing him off. Spindle was scared, but he did as he was told and ran. When he looked back, his mother was being slaughtered. They were killing her and there was nothing he could do. He wasn’t sure how long he had been in the forest by himself for, all he knows is one day he had run into young Silver who had been taking a walk through the forest. Spindle had almost skewered Silver with his dagger right then and there. Somehow, Silver managed to coax Spindle into not killing him and getting the little fae to follow him back to Lilia. The rest is history. Like, a lot of history.
———————————————————————————————————
Extra:
Spindle’s dagger is a gift from his mother. He got the dagger around age four and was absolutely thrilled at the time. It has a magestone on it he will eventually use, but for now he uses the pen NRC provides for magic and the dagger for - well - normal dagger purposes.
He had to eat a lot of berries while he was alone in the forest, so eating them just reminds him of his time alone. Hence why he doesn’t like them.
Spindle had spent a lot of time alone in the forest. He hated every second of it. Lilia made him join Mountain Lovers Club because A) nothing else really peaked Spindle’s interest and B) it could act as light exposure therapy. Spindle was a little more than annoyed at first, but he eventually came to enjoy it because birds. (He had heard stories about the Leech twins so he was - though he would never admit it - a little nervous about being in a club with one, but Jade welcomed him with open arms, considering Spindle was the second official member).
Spindle thought all kids were made with magic … poor Malleus had to explain- (Lilia was too busy laughing).
Lilia calls Spindle Thorn or Lil Thorn sometimes on account of his horn.
Spindle knows ALL the tea at school. Everything. Don’t assume he doesn’t. He doesn’t really care about gossip, honesty. But he overhears a lot of things in class that add up over time.
//hi! Mod of @lil-th0rn here. I wanted to start a rp with fala, but my oc is basically apart of the Diasomnia family. I just wanna know if spindle would’ve ran into fala at anytime (if there’s a post I missed abt this sorta thing im Sry-)
//also if u don’t wanna rp that’s obviously fine :D
//ooc
Hello!! :D
I went to your blog to read about Spindle. First of all, I really like the character idea! Secondly, I'd love to rp with you!
And I think Fala and Spindle could have interacted. Either due to Fala being Lilia's partner. Or due to the fact that they are also a fae student in Diasomnia. (They just spend more time "people watching" and trinket hunting around campus, than they do in the dorm.)
I don't think you missed anything. Even though I planned to, I haven't made a big post explaining Fala, their past, and relationships with people just yet.
Spindle was going about his day as usual. It was the weekend and he didn’t have much do. He considered maybe going out into the forest or asking Sebek to have a practice magic match with him. Then he decided he had gone into the forest enough this week thanks to his club and remembered that Sebek was busy.
In the end he decided to go on a walk around campus. He had to admit it was a pretty day, even if he preferred the night.
(//Alright! I apologies in advance if it takes me a bit of time to answer//)
{It was, indeed a pretty day out on campus. But there was an uneasy feeling in the air, as if someone was watching him.}
{There's a far, yet close sound. Something similar to the slight shaking of feathers. And then the "watcher" reveals themselves.}
"Hello, Spindle. It is odd to see you here at this time"
{Said the tall crow fae, who's leaning against a tree a few steps behind him.}
Spindle jumped a little and almost reached for his dagger. Then he realized who was speaking to him. He turned around and gave Fala a nod in greeting.
“Oh, Fala. Sorry, I didn’t realize who it was at first.” He shrugged, “And yeah, I just felt like going on a walk during the day this time. It’s a nice change, I guess.”
(//yay! :3//)
{They smile}
It is alright Spindle, I find this quite entertaining. And I did intend to slightly scare you.
Nice daggers you have there. Remind me sometime, and I'll show you mine. They're engraved with an old traditional pattern. A sort of old fae artistry. And made out of the same material as dearest Lilia's magearm. Though I don't use them as much now days, other than occasionally carrying one as extra protection.
{They step away from the tree and slightly closer to him}
I see, well, would you wish to accompany me? I have some letters to deliver around campus.
{They hint at the letters peaking out of their bag}
And to answer your kind question, I am well. How are you?
Spindle’s eyes seem to light up at the mention of their daggers, though he hides it well, “Um- yes. That sounds great. And sure. I’m not doing much else.” Then he answered, “I’m fine, thank you.”
{Fala noticed his slightly excited reaction, and smirked}
My, you seem all bright and lively now, hehe. Maybe we should discuss daggers more.
Though back to the earlier question, I am glad to hear you are well.
{They look through the letters in their bag}
Our first stop should be Octavinelle, the underwater dorm.
They always have a surprising amount of letters. Though I find it a little odd, how even though, most letters usually belong to their housewarden, one of the twin eels always greets me, and takes them off of my hands.
Spindle hummed, “I’m not really surprise. I’m sure most of them are from fools who think Housewarden Azul will actually help them.”
Then he shrugged, “And if Jade is the one greeting you I wouldn’t be surprised. If it’s Floyd- well, that’s not Floyd, that’s a parasite that somehow got into his body.”
Perhaps so.
Hm, you know, now that I think about it... I don't believe I've ever spoken with Housewarden Azul before... How odd.
{They started walking towards the mirror hall}
I see... Are you acquainted with the twin eels, Spindle?
//You have no idea how hard I giggled at the "that’s not Floyd, that’s a parasite"//
Spindle nodded, “Yes, I have. I’m in Jade’s club, actually. And Floyd’s bugged us during club time before when he decided to skip,” then he mumbled, “How Jade and Azul can keep up with him, I will never understand…”
“Speaking of clubs, which one are you in again?” He asked. He was genuinely curious, considering he didn’t see Fala around campus much, not counting dorms. Then again, that was probably just be because they’re in different grades and- well, Spindle spent most of his time actively avoiding most people…
"I see. It's the 'Mountain lovers' club correct? I considered transferring to it before, but I believe I'm more suited for my current club."
{They raise their brow, and their facial expression turns curious}
"Is that eel truly such a bother, and a menace in your eyes? I found him quite entertaining."
{She seemed a little surprised but happy to answer}
"I am a member of the 'Literary Club'! Though, I also have a mail service I run around campus, which often keeps me busy."
{They stop at the entrance of the mirror hall}
"I originally intended to join the 'NRC School Newspaper' club. Yet, I found that it would be too much work for my already busy schedule. So I settled for the 'Literary Club', which I quite enjoy. Also, I must say, I didn't expect you to be interested in my daily livings. From my observations of you, I noticed you often avoid people and small talk. Which I understand, of course."
Spindle nodded, then shrugged, “Technically not my choice. Lilia had me join to help me get outside, but I ended up enjoying it.”
“Yes, yes I do. His antics are too much. I can’t handle him.” Spindle left off the part where he didn’t want be squeezed. He may have had some protection because of being Jade’s club mate/friend(?), but he wasn’t willing to test how far that took him.
“That’s interesting. And you’re right, I don’t usually like talking to people, but you’re not as bad as half the student body is.” That and he wanted to get to know the person who was Lilia’s partner. And he respected her.
Dearest Lilia does tend to force socializing on us all, does he not? But I am glad you like your club. I believe it suits you.
{Fala laughs}
Truly? An eel's antics bother you? As I said before, I find them entertaining and quite fun! Though, I believe I can see why they'd be a bother.
{They smile at Spindle, then pat his head twice. Which is, quite out of character for them}
I am glad you think so. And I agree. Most of the student body, are loud, and reckless, busy bodies. Far more interesting to observe from a far, than interact with.
{She sighs}
Now then, shall we head to Octavinelle?
“You’re not wrong. He does do that a lot, actually.” Spindle agreed.
Spindle groaned, “You clearly haven’t been around him long enough. His voice is grating and his version of fun makes me wish I could tear my head off…”
He flinched a bit at the touch, but he hid it well enough. It didn’t really bother him like it would have if he hadn’t been expecting it, but still.
I believe he means well. But I am not fond of forced socialization... They sigh, and cross their arms.
Hehe, I observe him often actually! He is very entertaining. It is a shame you don't see the fun in it. Fala uncrosses her arms.
Are you not used to head pats? I recall seeing Lilia give them to Silver and Sebek. I believe he even gives them to prince Malleus. So I assumed you receive them as well.
They stop before the mirror to Octavinelle.
Go on, now. I'll follow after you.
//If you wanna tag any rp blogs of anyone from the Octavinelle trio you're more than welcome to! :>//
“Thank you for understanding. Yes, I know he means well but- ugh…” Spindle mumbled something under his breath.
He couldn’t help but give Fala a look that said ‘seriously?’ “Floyd? Fun and entertaining? No thank you, he acts like he willingly ate plastic in the ocean…”
“Well, he does but…” Spindle shrugged, “I’m just usually warned first, that’s all.”
And with a nod, he stepped into the mirror.
//Ik of some but I’ve never rlly interacted with any (are u ok if we just act as the characters? Sry-//

[Using her unique magic for fun rather than work was one of Sadiya’s more recent highlights. Whether for convenience or lighthearted pranks, her magic was fun to mess with.]
[And it wasn’t often that Sadiya got to goad people without consequences either.]
[Having brushed against Floyd Leech in the halls earlier that day, she had successfully copied his unique magic. That being Bind the Heart, of course. Oh, what fun that would be to use!]
“You little…!” A random Savanaclaw student growls, already reaching for his magic pen. His two friends quickly follow, teeth bared.] “You’ll pay for that!”
“Whaaaat, all I did was bump into ya! Can you not handle a little nudge?” [Sadiya has a wide, cocky grin on her face. She clears her throat, ready to push even further.] “What would your HOUSEWARDEN say? ‘Tch…I’m surrounded by idiots.’ Oh my! What brutes you are!”
“How DARE you copy Housewarden Kingscholar’s voice!” [The second one growls.]
[Sadiya grins wider, shrugging.] “Oh, but was what I said wrong? You lot really are acting like a buncha meatheads right now!”
“Big talk for a little birdie…” [the third barks, looking just about ready to charge.] “I will jump over there and tear off your precious little wings!”
“You feelin’ froggy? Then leap.”
“Okay, well here we go!”
[…it was a curbstomp.]
[Each magic spell flung at Sadiya just zipped away, some even striking one of the other Savanaclaw students. Even if they outmatched Sadiya in physical strength, that meant nothing with Sadiya’s cunning and speed. In no time, all three were in a pile on the ground, Sadiya calmly standing off to the side.]
[Then, noticing a witness, she turns to the new audience.] “What’s up? Got somethin’ to say?”
Spindle had noticed the fight a few minutes while walking by to the Hall of Mirrors. It was hard not to. They were being quite loud. He had just wanted to watch the fight for a while, for multiple reasons. One of them being he wanted to observe their fighting techniques. The other, well… he had overheard one of those Savannaclaw students say some less-than-nice about things him, Malleus, and basically everyone Spindle cared about in Diasomnia. Seeing that student get pummeled was satisfying.
His original plan had been to step away before he got noticed, but that clearly fell through one the one who has won the fight saw him. There go my plans of an inconspicuous escape… Spindle thought to himself.
Hiding his reluctance, Spindle stepped forward, looking at the pile of students. He completely ignored the question. After quickly glancing the three students over, he hummed in interest, “Great fighting technique. You beat them much faster than most would be able to. Your footwork could use some work, though.”
Spindle clearly didn’t find the sarcasm amusing. He completely ignored it and said, “Putting them in their place? That’s… respectable, I suppose.” He meant what he said. Somewhat, anyway.
He took his gaze away from the unconscious students and looked at Sadiya. After a moment of assessing her, he asked, “What’s your UM? I’ve only ever seen Floyd Leech use a spell like that.”
“It’d be too easy to just tell ya. How do I know you won’t use it against me? It’s happened before.” [They stroll forward casually.] “So why should I tell ya?”
[They look this other student up and down…subtly analyzing. First year. Diasomnia, no doubt. Some type of fae? Or some other creature?]
Spindle shrugged, “Fair enough. That isn’t something I would do either.”
He was curious to some extent, but was he really interested enough to actually get to know this person…? Oh, whatever. He could walk away anytime he wanted, anyway.
“Spindle Koleso,” he introduced himself, rather formally.
That somewhat caught Spindle off guard. He raised his eyebrows. He was still getting used to how some people at NRC could read others almost as quickly as he did.
He also took into account how the other’s bow felt vaguely familiar… Hm.
He nodded in acknowledgment to her introduction. Then he said, “How’d you guess?”
“You don’t get by in the Scalding Sands by being oblivious to others’ intentions,” [they say simply, straightening up.] “You don’t have to stick around if you don’t want to.”
His gaze narrowed. Was that a challenge? It felt like a challenge. Of course, he was frequently reminded by those around him that he would (and has) take a genuine compliment as a challenge.
[Sadiya starts walking in another direction, tucking her hands behind her back.]
“I get being stubborn n’ all that, I respect that. But don’t push your boundaries too much. Leads to some bad things. Learned that the hard way…” [Sadiya glances over her shoulder, shooting him a sharp look.] “If you don’t want to keep talking, don’t follow. Or…you can follow me in silence. Either way, it doesn’t bother me.”
Spindle stared in disbelief and surprise for a moment. He didn’t really know what he was expecting. Maybe a good ‘fuck off’ or just taking his word, but what just happened wasn’t it.
Follow in silence…? That wasn’t too bad of an idea. He could use that as an excuse to avoid Lilia’s chastising about why he wasn’t trying to branch out.
After a bit of thinking, he followed silently, slightly behind, looking in the distance.
To Spindle, he didn’t really notice the silence that much, being lost in his own mind and all, though he appreciated it. Thanks to certain menaces, he didn’t get to do that as much as he used to.
He mindlessly fiddled with his dagger and sheath, simply sheathing and unsheathing it. He did that while lost in thought a lot.
Spindle stared at the mirror for a moment, weighing his options. If I go into Scarabia, the dorm with the most extroverted student at NRC or the world, no one can say I didn’t try to branch out…
[Shw just stares deadpan at him for a few moments.]
[Really??? He’s really not giving up?????]
“…you sure? There’s gonna be a party soon. I’ve gotta be there to set up, and I’ll have to stay there the whole time. Do you really wanna come with???”

Information: These fae are created with a magic spell; one that requires a thorn branch. Stories say these fae were originally created to serve in the royals’ army. Eventually - according to stories - somewhere down the line, one of the rulers decided it was unnecessary, plus it took longer to create, raise, and train the thorn faes than it to just hire other faes. The spell then became a way for the thorn faes to have kids. Nowadays there are very few of these faes left. Those that are still around are typically found in Briar Valley.
Extra: There’s a myth thorn fae’s horns venom in them, so if you prick your finger on a thorn fae’s horn and you aren’t a thorn fae, it- well, wouldn’t end well for you. It’s unclear if this story is false, since no one is willing to risk it,

//hi! Mod of @lil-th0rn here. I wanted to start a rp with fala, but my oc is basically apart of the Diasomnia family. I just wanna know if spindle would’ve ran into fala at anytime (if there’s a post I missed abt this sorta thing im Sry-)
//also if u don’t wanna rp that’s obviously fine :D
//ooc
Hello!!
{It was, indeed a pretty day out on campus. But there was an uneasy feeling in the air, as if someone was watching him.}
{There's a far, yet close sound. Something similar to the slight shaking of feathers. And then the "watcher" reveals themselves.}
"Hello, Spindle. It is odd to see you here at this time"
{Said the tall crow fae, who's leaning against a tree a few steps behind him.}
Spindle jumped a little and almost reached for his dagger.
(//yay! :3//)
{They smile}
{They step away from the tree and slightly closer to him}
I see, well, would you wish to accompany me? I have some letters to deliver around campus.
{They hint at the letters peaking out of their bag}
And to answer your kind question, I am well. How are you?
Spindle’s eyes seem to light up at the mention of their daggers, though he hides it well, “Um- yes. That sounds great. And sure. I’m not doing much else.” Then he answered, “I’m fine, thank you.”
{Fala noticed his slightly excited reaction, and smirked}
My, you seem all bright and lively now, hehe. Maybe we should discuss daggers more.
Though back to the earlier question, I am glad to hear you are well.
{They look through the letters in their bag}
How odd.
{They started walking towards the mirror hall}
{They raise their brow, and their facial expression turns curious}
"Is that eel truly such a bother, and a menace in your eyes? I found him quite entertaining."
{She seemed a little surprised but happy to answer}
"I am a member of the 'Literary Club'! Though, I also have a mail service I run around campus, which often keeps me busy."
{They stop at the entrance of the mirror hall}
{Fala laughs}
Truly? An eel's antics bother you? As I said before, I find them entertaining and quite fun! Though, I believe I can see why they'd be a bother.
{They smile at Spindle, then pat his head twice. Which is, quite out of character for them}
I am glad you think so. And I agree. Most of the student body, are loud, and reckless, busy bodies. Far more interesting to observe from a far, than interact with.
{She sighs}
