Bai Mingyuan is the first of my at-present 5 Bai Ze characters. Gentle and easygoing, he is friends with most everyone, which is rather helpful for his early job as the one who keeps the administration machine running. Born with the knowledge of the names, appearances, and abilities of every creature, he also has an unprecedented and unique mastery over name magic. In peacetime, he primarily uses this to assign people to tasks, as he is also rather perceptive to people’s personalities and motivations.

Among close friends, however, his polite friendliness gives way for a more cheeky and coquettish side. He is fond of teasing Mo Kun, who often shows no outright response, but despite this seeming lack of reaction, the two actually share a lot of inside jokes with each other. Bai Mingyuan also often takes Mo Kun’s two children out to play, being the one to bring them to the capital later on. (He also rather enjoys teasing children with misleading information, but that’s neither here nor there). Their relationship is actually founded on their individual “gifts” of divine knowledge, and when conflicts loom on the horizon, the two can often be found in quiet discussion in the North Sea Palace.
