can we talk about the way Jinshi just like... follows Maomao's lead? essentially. like not to say he doesn't take initiative or take charge of things but like.... can we talk about how he observes her (before she starts observing him too is what I'm referring to) and it's crucial to how he falls in love with her so much so that it's the one constant you see in official art; him watching her as shes inspecting plants, him literally following behind her. he learns from her not only about plants and poisons and medicine but about how to navigate the world outside of palace walls yk or how ppl outside the palace (esp women) live

and its so distinct bc usually in these historical dramas its always the WOMEN who learn from men. like its always the women who live sheltered lives and learn from men about the "real world"

jinshi is not afraid to be guided by her or learn from her, or even recognize that she may know more than him in certain situations, he values her intelligence even tho he's not only a man but a man of royal birth like literally who is doing it like him for real for real

birthday arc has got to be my favorite thing to happen in the story so far because what do you mean we have cruise ship, rich people behaving recklessly, slapstick fights, people calling yoojin honeypot (and he doesn't even know what that means!!!!), hyunjae blowing up the aforementioned cruise ship, and jinjae finally communicating and setting boundaries IN FRONT OF NEARLY FIFTY PEOPLE. and also the excitement yoojin felt hoping hyunjae would fuck up the gimbap and him singing happy birthday for hyunjae and the. the. the phone contact??? hello??? hyunjae not only changing it from "my item" but asking yoojin his opinion on what to change it to??? AND THEN CHANGING IT TO "MY PARTNER" HIMSELF AFTERWARDS ???????????????????

Okay I have to get this off my chest. Am I the only one that sees parallels between Payback and S Class? Not the story but the characters. Yoon Jay/Lee Yoohan remind me so much of Hyunjae/Yoojin. Jay/HJ are super powerful people that everyone is afraid of and yet they both let this one person (Yoohan/YJ) talk to them crazy and they care about this person so much that they suppress themselves and don’t hurt the person even though if it was anyone else they would never get away with it. Yoohan/YJ are both characters so stricken with guilt that they won’t allow themselves the chance to be happy or receive help from others and overwhelm themselves with work so they don’t stop to think about their suppressed feelings. They also clearly have feelings for Jay/HJ but refuse to admit it to themselves and instead act like they’re being harassed by the person. And then Jay/HJ slowly (and I mean slowly) breaks down all of their walls until they learn to depend on them and care for them back. I can’t be the only one. Tell me I’m not crazy

We all remember the iconic hjyj lines from chapter 102, right? The-

“Why are you staring at me like that?” “Because I think I’ll fall in love.” “You said you already fell.” “I could fall again.”

We struggle throughout the novel with Yoojin's insecurity of losing Hyunje's interest. Of his emotions towards Yoojin disappearing, that Han Yoojin will never be able to grab his attention once he's lost it.

Then, towards the end of the novel, as Sung Hyunje tries to approach his desired end, he buries his feelings for Han Yoojin. Makes sure to throw them away and avoid the desire to look forward to tomorrow.

However, Yoojin can't give up on him. How could he ever give up on someone he loves after all? It's just not his nature. So Yoojin chases after him, spars, argues and screams of how regardless of their past relationship, he wants Hyunje in his life simply because he does. That there is no desire for approval, no jealousy nor hatred.

Han Yoojin likes Sung Hyunje, that's all.

And Hyunje. Hyunje falls.

"...So, it did come back after all." "How could I resist falling for such a grand and splendid Han Yoojin?”

Sung Hyunje falls for Han Yoojin again.

Yoohyun's hostility towards Hyunjae is really funny to me, because while most people likely view it as being a result of Yoohyun being a jealous brocon (and that is definitely a big part of it don't get me wrong), another aspect of it is like, Yoojin and Hyunjae are insufferable about each other and they're constantly pulling their bullshit right in Yoohyun’s face. Imagine if you had to watch your older sibling flirt aggressively with the most annoying guy you know on a daily basis, and the worst part is your brother won't even admit he's doing it. Any reasonable younger sibling would be driven to homicide.
