Helaena's mental state is fine after she watches her son being murdered in front of her, but being imprisoned in a castle is the reason for her depression??? Mind you, she is happily having a picnic with her daughter and picking bugs while Baela and Rhaena (who are younger than her) are fighting and helping their family. What does Helaena do despite having a dragon? Whining and crying. She is the epitome of damsel in distress so the audience would go "ohh poor girl"

For a bit it seemed like maybe her mental state was deteriorating after her son was killed. The things where she said "lots of children die" actually made me think they were going with her depersonalizing as a trauma response... but now I think she's just like that. It's... ugh... I'm autistic. I've known a lot of people who are ND in some way or another. I've known a lot of people who have developmental disabilities that required constant care. None of them act like this... child/rare bird who will die if caged hybrid creature that Helaena is. It's infantilizing and romanticizing at the same time... I need a shower.

A lot of unnecessary HOTD discourse could be avoided (much like the war lol) if people realized that they're usually talking about two entirely different things when they say stuff about a character making "bad decisions". Do you mean this was a bad decision morally or politically?? Let's establish that first and go from there

All the Criston hate really annoys me now. He made it very clear he had nothing but his oath and Rhaenyra was acting like he was being over dramatic and that only her oath mattered. Because as Alicent says is there nothing you will not stomp on with your pretty feet? Rhaenyra and Daemon for that matter have no concept of real responsibility. It’s not their fault it’s Viserys and the targ attitudes in general. But that does indeed make them shet rulers.

Criston said his father died with nothing because the lord they served fell out of favor. He knows the Hightower’s will lose and he has no intention of dying like his father. He would much rather die on his own terms and tech he did. I don’t even think he actually loved Alicent romantically. I think she was simply his only friend like ever and she didn’t even reciprocate that. The death of little Jha on Rhaenyras camps orders was the final straw. He knew those “monsters” would win and he def couldn’t stop it on his own. So might as well do as much damage as he can before dies.

I mean look at all this from Cristons pov. He was so proud to become kings guard he made it clear it was all he had. Rhae appeared to be his friend and then she seduced him and then was like it’s ok! An affair for me is totally fine and he’s like but I could be executed? And she’s like don’t be silly it’s totally cool. Then it’s her wedding and her husband’s “friend” is like I know your secret fun right? And he’s like no…not fun at all. So he kills that guy to protect everyone he thinks then goes do kill himself then Alicent shows up and is like chill. So he does. He got away with all that because Viserys knew Rhaenyra was to blame and was like it’s cool just kids being kids. So now Criston is like..wtf? Does that mean Rhaenyra can get away with anything and then three bastards, a missing eye, and a forbidden marriage later it seems that yes she can. So Criston is like this bitch def can’t be queen and acts accordingly. I mean can you blame him? I don’t.

Then he realizes Alicent is disgusted by him and the boys he raised suck so he’s like I couldn’t even do that right let me just die in battle as intended.

It is a shame he wasn’t bi because then he could have at least felt true affection before he died.

Since this was posted in the Rhaenyra tag I feel fine just responding. People have every right to hate Criston Cole. He was a child bullying, homophobic misogynist with delusions of grandeur who got a bunch of people killed chasing his own personal glory. Now to start. It was perfectly fair for Criston to be upset that Rhaenyra took their sexual encounter less seriously than he did. However, if you are of the opinion that "if we have sex we must get married" this should be something you tell a person BEFORE YOU HAVE SEX WITH THEM. Rhaenyra made no commitment and in the end niether got what they wanted out of the other. And no Rhaenyra was not using him for sex, she wanted a relationship like the one she had later with Harwin it seems. He can be upset but ten years later calling her a spoiled cunt upset? No. That's some misogynist shit there. Next- he murdered Joffery for no good reason. Joffery was not threatening him, he was trying to bond with him as he, wrongly, assumed Cole was Rhaenyra's champion lover and he was trying to suggest a pact to protect the people they loved. Cole bashed his head in. ... and he's proven to be 100% homophobic to top it off, watch him and Alicent imply Laenor is a pedo because he's gay in Driftmark. Also he bullies Rhaenyra's children because he hates her. He bullies a like 8 year old Jace because Rhaenyra didn't want to give up her whole life and run away with him...

That's just season one. How about season two when he gets Arryk to go on a suicide mission because he feels guilty for not doing his job? How about that whole group of men he dragged through hell and finally got killed for nothing because he wanted to die in a glorious battle?
