Screaming into the void but I wanted to make a quick statement about the Pyro boundaries update, specifically how people have been reacting to it.
So I have seen multiple posts on here now essentially saying that Pyro should not enforce strict shipping boundaries, with the most extreme of these posts saying that doing so is parasocial and even predatory. These posts are tone deaf at best and incredibly entitled at worst.
1. You are not entitled to anyone elseâs spaces, community, or characters. If you act in a way that makes someone uncomfortable, especially after repeated warnings, you deserve to get banned. This is as true for family, friends and strangers you meet on the street as it is for CCs and celebrities. For some reason people treat celebrities/ccs and their creations as objects they are entitled to, rather than human beings that deserve space and privacy. When they are uncomfortable with that, people say they are too soft/selfish/insecure/weak to be in the limelight instead of addressing their own behavior. It is not âparasocialâ or âpredatoryâ to ask people who engage with your work to respect you and your boundaries.
If you make someone uncomfortable, you are the problem. It does not matter if you donât know them personally. Being on the internet is not an excuse to be a dick or ignore the boundaries of others.
2. Creators of all kinds have every right to engage with their own creations and any fandom that builds around it. You are entitled to your own private spaces but you cannot have that on a public platform. If you want to make something youâre not comfortable with CCs seeing, donât post it publicly. Show it to your friends, not the whole internet.
As for DNI tags, that is okay in a lot of cases but not in this one. DNI tags are not excuses to violate peopleâs boundaries.
3. Many people have said they shouldnât have done this because it wonât work, there will be people who donât follow it and that can cause âwitch hunts.â Yes, there will be some people who choose to ignore the CCs boundaries, but most will respect them. Likewise, there will be people who decide to go on witch hunts about this despite repeated warnings from the CCs not to, but most will not. The fact that there are some people who choose to be assholes does not mean that Pyro and Maddy did not have the right to create and enforce this boundary. They are human. They are protecting themselves and their mental health. No matter how many times you say âpeople shouldnât kill othersâ itâs still gonna happen, but that doesnât mean it shouldnât be said or that the consequences shouldnât be enforced.
It is understandable if some of these ships were meaningful to you and you are upset by the decision. You have the right to be sad, but you still need to abide by the creators wishes.
Please be considerate of others.
