Planning of the Kingsroad (62 AC). King Jaehaerys Targaryen discusses with his Small Council the idea of a new set of roads that would be established under his reign. Next to him, the Master of Coin Martyn Tyrell appears to be overwhelmed while his wife, Florence Fossoway (holding an abacus) gives her full attention to the king. On his right side, the loyal Hand of the King Barth seems calm while a Tully (who could be Grover Tully or a Tully between him and Prentys Tully, who died in 59 AC), contemplates the presented ideas. On the far right of the image, the sharp tongued Grand Maester Elysar is far less restrained in his expression.

I’ve always wanted to show the more ‘ruling’ part of the rulers of Westeros, particularly Jaehaerys’ great idea of setting some roads to benefit transport and economy. In my mind, since roads at that time were made of pebbles, the Riverlands would have had to provide some raw material from its rivers, thus the inclusion of a Tully. On the other hand, the name Elysar came to me later. I just drew an unnamed member of the council in the back, but I wasn’t planning on determining his name until I saw this quote from the Grand Maester about Jaehaerys: “He was better with roads than with daughters”. Not only is this objectively true (lol), it also indicates that he was part of the meetings about roads.

Anyways, I hope you like this as much as I do.

PD: I've seen some people pointing out that Barth is not his canonical age in here. This is because I'm incapable of imagining Barth as a youngster. Cheers!
